I get hit with something and it all goes down the drain.

I took the day off today because I had a root canal yesterday and I'm still in a lot of pain today from it. There's no way I can capably teach like this- it hurts to talk.

Well, I hear a car alarm go off outside- I look out my window and it's because my car is being towed.

I admit, it's my fault it was towed- I have a couple of unpaid parking tickets on it. But they are going to charge me an arm and a leg to pay for the tickets as well and the towing and storage fees. I also have to take the train all the way to Jamaica and God knows where else to pay and get my car back.

I was just starting to get my finances in order, figuring out a budget (and also a payment plan for paying off those tickets) when this happened. I really don't know how I'm going to deal with this. I am seriosuly considering cancelling my trip in April, but I don't know if I'll get my money back for it.

I know to some people it may not seem like that big of a deal, but it is to me- I am barely making ends meet as it is.

This is the last thing I need today. To add insult to injury, the number I need to call to find out about my car have been busy.

Thanks guys. I can't get in touch with the stupid tow truck place- I'm getting so frustrated. It's going to take all day for me to try and get my car back.

I jsut called to find out how much I would be penalized if I cancelled my trip, and they said $450. I don't think it's worth it.

On the upside, buying cars at towing auctions is great fun and you can get some supersilly deals.

A few years ago I bought a five year old Buick Park Avenue for $700...I drove it for six months then got $5,000. for it against a new Jeep.

A couple of weeks ago my brother bought a 93 Nissan 240sx for $125.

You grrls in your mid-late 20's are all alike....you all owe small fortunes for parking tickets and other boring administrative shit, but if someone says "let's go south!"...you're there.

Ok asshole, I totally admitted it was my fault- did you even bother reading my entire post? I'm fully aware that I brought it upon myself.

I got 2[/b[ tickets, and only 2- one because I was really sick with strep throat and could barely get out of bedanddidn't realize that my car was on the wrong side of the street, and the other because my registration had expired. Both of these tickets were given at a time when I was really fucked up. My father was in the hospital dying. Parking tickets were the LAST things on my mind! Do you know how much parking tickets in NYC are? I doubt it. They just raised the price and now you can get towed for having 2 of them.

I never said I was responsible. I am fully willing to admit that I am fiscally irresponsible. However, I had just put myself on a budget and was figuring out how to manage my money.
All of that went down the drain when my car got towed.

Lance, don't generalize about all of us "mid 20s grrls". Many of my friends manage their finances just fine. I was brought up in a household where my mom lived paycheck to paycheck and paid everything at the last minute. Other people's parents set up saving accounts for them and taught them how to deal with financial responsibility.

I've been working two (and sometimes 3) jobs for who knows how long just to try to make ends meet, so don't act like you know everything about me.

I know, I know. I feel like such a schmuck, but as I said, I got the tickets at a really bad time in my life and just forgot about them. I know it's no excuse, but it's what happened.

Bills come before vacations in the world of the fiscally responsible.

I only lend money to relatives if they really need it. Having to bail out a car that was towed because the tickets weren't paid probably wouldn't qualify. Maybe your friends and family will be more understanding, but I'd be voting on the side of you learning a lesson from having to give up a vacation to pay your bills.
