This from the local news today. Sometimes you can only shake your head.

FORT PIERCE, Fla. — Authorities say a Fort Pierce woman called 911 three times after McDonald's employees told her they were out of Chicken McNuggets.

Police say 27-year-old Latreasa L. Goodman went to McDonald's last week and ordered a 10-piece. She told police that it was an emergency because she wouldn't have paid for the McNuggets if she knew they didn't have any. She said employees refused to give her a refund, saying all sales were final. A cashier told police she offered Goodman a larger portion of different food for the same price, but Goodman became irate.

Police report that Goodman was issued a notice to appear on a misuse of 911 charge.

A current phone listing to seek comment from Goodman could not be found.

I can't find the story now but MSNBC.com ran article today about a guy who was likewise cited after calling 911 when Burger King ran out of lemonade.

I think it's in the water...

She was in the wrong aout the 911 call, but I wonder about McD. If they take an order and collect in advance, and can't fill the order, they should refund the money. Any other business would do that, with no quibble.

Wait. This make no sense. You go into a McDonald's. You say, "McNuggets." They say, "We don't got any." You leave.

OR, you go in, you say, "McNuggets," they take your money, then say, "We don't have them...here's your money back."

I mean, I know the report SAYS that the employees wouldn't give her the money back but that makes no sense.

Which I suppose is the whole point, but I'm just a little confused. I'm willing to be amazed both ways here--that they wouldn't give her the money and she called 911, but I'm having trouble believing that (1) they didn't know they were out of McNuggets till they took her money, and (2) they have some policy about not giving back the money. Really?

This whole magilla beggars any analysis...or rationality. This woman is plain and simply a wack-job.

She is that, and nobody is defending her, but McD technically committed fraud by selling something they did not have. They should have given her money back or offered something else. If she didn't want anything else, they should have refunded her money.

Not so sure about the rationality ... apparently corporate McDonald's has released a statement saying the woman will be given her money back, as well as coupons for free McNuggets.

I know that it's probably a PR move, but it does add a little credence to her strange, strange story

My bad...I should have included the Mickey D staff among the wack-jobs. :D

The manager of that unit should be fired...this entire event borders on the ridiculous. What's really ridiculous is the fact that there's precious little chicken in a McNugget...it's all filler.

They did offer her other things. She wouldn't accept anything other than the nuggets.

Heard on the news last night or this morning that they have sent her a gift certificate for a free meal.

I must admit that anyone who orders McNuggets is already skating on thin mental ice, IMO.
Well, that's a bit harsh. You're talking about a great amount of people. Just because someone makes poor food choices doesn't make them stupid. Personally, I let my kid have them occasionally when we grab fast food. He has food allergies and it's the only thing he can really eat at McDonalds. If someone charged me for Mcnuggets and refused to give me a refund, I'd probably get pretty irate too. There have been times when we've been places where McDonalds is the only place to eat.

I'm not all that surprised that it happened. The level of people that they use in a Mickey'Ds is very low. If they have to think, they're in trouble. They may not have told the counter person that they were out of McNuggets, or they may have told the counter person that they were out of McNuggets and she/he/it may have forgotten. The fact tht they refused to refund her money is probably a corporate policy.

And why should she, darn it! :D Honestly, even if it is only cheapo McNuggets, I think a person should be given what they want, and if they don't want it, they should be given back the money. How hard would it have been for the manager to reach into his/her own pocket and give them back the...what? Few bucks the McNuggets cost? This isn't like someone wanting and paying for a canary-yellow diamond ring and then being told, oops sorry, all out of canary-yell, and policy is you don't get your money back, would you care to pick a different 10K diamond? THAT isn't something easily solved.

True. But calling 911 when they can't have that food choice, poor or not, is pretty stupid. The dispatcher not to mention the police have a better things to do. At least I hope they do. This ought to be a problem that rational people--on both sides--should be able to solve (i.e., my recommendation above--the manager gives the woman back her money from his/her own pocket and deals with reimbursement of those funds later).

I wasn't defending the action, just the comment about food choice. If it had happened to me, regardless of how ripped off I felt, I'd simply call and complain to the store manager and the corporate hotline. People are really prone to losing their shit about their food. It only took me about a minute of working in fast food as a teenager to realize this, lol. On the plus side, it taught me how to get what I want without complaining. It's amazing how far a little friendliness and empathy go. ;)

According to McDonald's, corporate policy would be to give her money back. The counter person may not have known how to give refunds.
