They Kill Turkeys, Don't They?

I know turkeys are food, and should be humanely killed if we're going to have 'em for Thanksgiving dinner and all -

But.

She's a fool for doing this sort of thing.

Or else, very arrogant.

I'd vote for incompetant arrogant Fool.

I think it's hilarious. Talk about a "D'oh!" moment. I mean there she goes to "pardon" a turkey and behind her they're chopping off more heads? I mean, yeah, ultimately it's much ado about nothing, but was anyone thinking about how that would look/go over?

I think this calls for a picture and a caption!

Let's say that this is the turkey that Sarah pardoned. Give him a caption; whatever he might be saying or thinking about all this.

WTF? It's a frigin' turkey...Y'all don't realize the way things are done in the wild, wild, wilderness. City slickers all. Hell down on the farm in Kentucky we got no machine to cut the heads off. You grab them by the head and give the neck a good twist. Sure they flop around for awhile. Hell some even run around in circles spurting blood into the air. That's food on the hoof is all.

And just 'cuz she pardoned one doesn't mean the governors mansion doesn't need it's cousin to chow down on.

I just don't get what the big fuss is about.

No, no.

Of course the birds get slaughtered. That's the point, after all.

But I think it was the ridiculousness of having her do an interview about pardoning a turkey while a guy was killing a couple of birds right behind her.

Bad move, that.

If she hadn't been selected to run as VP candidate that footage would never have been shot or shown on a national level. And if people want to make a big deal out of nothing they are free to do so, just like they always do when someone they despise does something they feel is politically incorrect.

These are the same people who really don't know where that hamburger meat comes from when they chow down at their local Micky D's.

Why are you libs so threatened by this woman that you have to keep beating her up? She lost. You can move on now and start setting the world aright.......Carney

You do seem to have missed the point, I'm afraid. It's a political PR gaff (obviously it is, as it's being played that way in the media--a smart politician tries to see/neutralize all of the possible media-play angles beforehand). Has nothing to do with knowing which side your turkey is sliced on.

Well the Sarah Palin thread here has been reduced to a rum fest--after going through several incarnations that had nothing to do with Sarah Palin--so I doubt she will be the center of attention forever. (And I very much doubt she's being beaten up--she appears to be made out of Teflon.)

But now I've seen that her thread has moved into Twin Peaks--so we might be doubly back to her again (in more ways than one).

It is reassuring though. After two months on a national campaign, she's still politically tone deaf enough to not know/care how this would play on the national scene. Since she gives every appearance of wanting to continue on the national scene, I rather hope that she continues in this way.

She almost saved the last turkey. She was yapping about God knows what and the butcher stopped to turn around and listen. It lasted all about 15 seconds.

One news report said that she was unaware of what was happening behind her.

Look at the video - is that accurate?

Another said that she was well aware, but continued to proceed.

It's just ridiculous to do a photo op about pardoning a turkey while filming turkeys being killed at the same time.

Where is her staff? Where are the people who are supposed to prevent such stupid moves? She needs better handlers.

Such a PR fuck-up.

They were at her house looking at Russia. :D

If she had the slightest bit of common sense, she would have known that pardoning a turkey at a slaughter house is a bad idea. She would certainly not have chosen a background that included blood.

She had to know what was happening behind her. She could have easily chosen a different location. The farm where the pardoned turkey will presumably live out its life might have made a nice backdrop.

Please let her keep her current handlers. We're all much safer that way.

You're quite right - on all counts.

The thing is, I do not go looking for Palin stories. I mute the TV whenever she's talking. And I muted the video of the turkey story because I just can't stand her voice.

This was national news, shoved in my face.

Me too, although when forced I try to listen to her. She has the same fascination as a train wreck, but I can only take her in small doses. Read the transcript and you see a fifty word phrase that has only a passing relationship with grammar.

I can handle the willfully ignorant, but they scare me when they have a national audience.

She is even funnier than Dan Quayle. I don't think we got this many laughs out of his entire vice presidency :D

No I get that. A PR gaff. I get it, I get it. But why is anyone making such a big deal about it? Just because she was picked to run as VP for the republicans? Because she's the Governor of Alaska? Because she's a woman? Because she is a rustic, down to earth, person with more important things to worry about than the politically correct setting for an impromptu media question and answer session?
