They Come, They Come . . .

Not good news for me.

Both my parents lost their childhood homes to a Zeppelin in 1915.

There are thousands of deaths due to automobiles each year Ogg, but we don't hate automobiles for them.

The part of the article that annoys me is the the general public still won't be able to book a flight on one. Oh well, at least I can get a leather flight helmet. Hey Stella, you still building ray guns?

Well, not a Goodyear Brand Zepelin, but I think I read a coupl e of years back that there were going to be some genuine Zepelin brand dirigibles in public tourism service in Europe. Don't know what came of the proposal, but if you realy, really, want to fly a dirigible, it might be just a international flight away.

You're thinking hot air balloons, Surely. This is a dirigible. It's powered and goes where it's pointed.

The US Navy zeps in the 1930's were something to see. Curtiss Aircraft even designed and built a special prop fighter called the 'Sparrowhawk' for them...each zep carried four that it could launch and retrieve in the air. The USS 'Akron' went down in a storm in 1933 and the USS 'Macon' went down in a storm in 1935. The Navy cancelled its airship program after the crashes.

One can but hope. Today, North America. Tomorrow, the WORLD!

Well, certainly one is willing to concede: next week, the world. But a nice, leisurely conquest it will be, and is that not indubitably the point?

(Added in Edit: ) Sorry folks, but I just had to add this observation: According to my stats, this is my 69th post! Woo!
