A list of some of my 'best' presents this year:

Being serenaded by my 4 yr old great niece. Her rendition of "Rooduff the Wed-Nosed Waindeer" was flawless. Even though "then all the waindeers loved him, as they shouted out real clean". This just tells me that she helps her very busy momma do laundry, and I admire that. ;)

The phone call from the 7 yr old great nephew thanking us for the toy that will most likely get him in trouble. He, of course, doesn't yet realize that this toy has HUGE get the boy in trouble potential, but he will learn this soon enough.

Hanging out with the kids, watching them open presents, and joining them in playing with the new stuff. I even managed to share well, something some family members thought I never quite mastered as a child.

Getting a HUGE hug and a kiss on top the head from the usually gruff, reserved, big ole bear of a brother in law.

Having my *cough* grown up *cough* daughter bounce around the house and admit she's so excited over Christmas she could "just bust wide open".

Sitting around with my in laws exchanging embarassing stories on each other, and laughing til our sides hurt.

Receiving a Christmas card from a friend who has NEVER sent a Christmas card before.

No amount of money could give me the satisfaction these things do. Tomorrow, we spend with my family. I look forward to the fun there, too. These things are what make the Holidays for me.

What makes your holiday special?

just moved more than 2000 miles a couple weeks ago, and though I have not been at home in 12 years, this is the first time I have ever not seen my friends and family on Xmas.

My father sent me a card that was perfect, and is very unlike him, and it hit the spot nicely and thus far, being alone on Xmas has not been as bad as I had expected.

Being Left alone with my 3 month old grand daughter for an hour or so, I fed her and she fell asleep in my arms, I put her in her swing and being the goober I am couldn't figure out all the straps and harness' to hold her in.
So I put the lap tray across her pulled up a chair and watched her less the gentle rocking motion propel her into a Sputnik like orbit when I wasn't watching.

Every few minutes or so she'd open her eyes and smile and gurgle and squeal as if seeing me just delighted her.
I sang her songs and she'd smile, go back to sleep, then wake up again and smile and squeal again

I didn't care if anything else ever happened
I was happy just to sit with her and watch her joy at seeing me when she awoke

That is a memory I will never forget
It was the best gift I ever got

We are the "Host & Hostess of Record" tomorrow. All the neices, nephews and ancillary folks will be here... I went across the Province to get my Mum, so she's here, too... my son is TRYING to be a human... I saw my Dad yesterday, and gave him HIS gifts.

Yeah, this will be a comfortable and PEACEFUL Christmas.

It will be neat to share a bit of cross-Border cheerfulness with West By-GAWD, tomorrow, as well, Emmeroo.

Sparkey, if you were anywhere close to me, you'd be invited to share with us. there's always room for one more around here. I do hope you are able to make some wonderful memories.

Tathagata, babies are wondrous creatures. congratulations on your new 'granpaw' status! Sounds as though that is one lucky little lady.

LOL my mother used to to that! She'd 'roll call' all us kids AND her sister's names then stop, sigh, and say. "You KNOW which one of you I mean, and don't try to get out of it cause you live here and the odds are I'll get it RIGHT eventually!"

The thread-starter is in the beautiful state of West Virginia. The "Live Free or Die" State is pretty cool, too - from a Canadian perspective, shark.
