There's got to be a poem, right?

You know, I only meant this as a joke. All of you who have looked had not 1 comment to make? What a bunch of dead asses.

sorry Boo, i have a dead brain at the moment for poetry, more blood and guts than anything right now... add to that the statue you've put up just doesn't speak to me. i mean, a pregnant woman holding onto an animal's head... no animal body that she could be riding. a female pregnant body is beautiful but this pic just makes me cringe for some reason... maybe it's the colour, i don't know.

or maybe it's because i was recently looking at another statue that this one doesn't touch... *shrugging*

sorry

:rose:

hey, if you post what you've written about it maybe that'll spark something. :)

Um... Can't see no statue in the post. Pic not showing? Help?

Challenge: get over it

Booo hoooo hooo!

sorry if I don't ask forgiveness for thinking about something before posting a comment. I don't even think you let it up for a day before throwing out this attack.

I have a great idea--how about you go look at all of the other good ideas that you did not comment on before calling other people asses.

There are a bunch of poets who have posted their poems for help and suggestions, remember how much it meant to you when you did that? Not that I am blaming you for not posting as you have done to me/us.... I just think it might be a much better use of your time than over-reacting, jumping to (incorrect) conclusions, crying and name calling. I need to get over there myself and put my thinking cap on, see if I can help out.

Please use yourself as an example: you do not post a comment every time you read something, please don't have higher standards for the rest of the world.

And please don't take this as an unwarranted attack and cry poor little misunderstood Boo. We all make mistakes. When your mistake involves calling me and other people I care about "dead asses" sorry but I had to comment on that.

there you go, you got some attention. I was going to post a labor poem that I was working on, but rats, wasted time answering your childish accusation.

Oh, Brittany, Oh Britteny, you have a nice ass.

Oh Britanny, Oh Brittania, this art is very crass.

I'd look up your name to spell it right
But I just can't be bothered

Oh britany, Oh Britany
Please will you sleep with me?

Because, you know, I made this to get your attention.
It'd be cool if you did, thanks.

I still can't seem to load the damn pic. *whine*

I didn't see the thread until now.
I actually read the article about the statue, yesterday. I think the statue is tacky. I don't want to see Brit's naked ass up in the air. Speaking of dead asses...

Oh good grief, Anna. You would take this personal, wouldn't you?

I only meant it as a joke- it's nearly April Fool's Day. I doubt seriously theres a poem there, though Recidiva did a pretty good job, and in exactly the tone I meant. This statue is about the tackiest thing I've ever seen. Eve's got the right idea, too. WSO? If you managed one of your good poems out of this I would think you'd be voted Poet Of The Century!!! lol

Chill out Anna. You'll feel better.

Someone once said (maybe foolishly) that there is a poem in everything. What's the poem here?

Challenge

Write a poem that makes this bronze statue make sense.

hint: it's Brittany Spears in labor

Until His Return

What artist had the vision
or the cohonies to make a decision
to sculpt such a figurine
for me to decide what it could mean

a pregnant beauty in nude
with not a sombre attitude
as the lion's fleece held in her hands
brings loving memories of her man

who for the moment is away
but shall return to her anyday
but until the moment of his return
her love for him continually burn

for she wants to feel the nobility
of his lion-like caresses, she miss exclusively
the rough yet gentle masculine touch
that she desires so much

her body starts to undulate awkwardly
as she recalls how it used to be
before the life now inside of her
made her so well aware

of the power her lover wielded when joined
with her at the very loins
gasping as she involuntarily
orgasms strong and intensely
momentarily soothing the burn
of desire until his return

EWOP?? You done good, baby! Maybe we'll have to put you right up there next to WSO, huh? I suppose the sculptor of this 'thing' feels the same about Britney--who knows? At least you felt something- way more than I did! TY

Chill out Anna. You'll feel better.

I saw this thread and looked at the statue and started considering it before I read that it was a joke.

I am deeply moved by this piece and find the execution excellent.

This piece brought up some very instinctual and deep feelings and images for me. It feels both primal (the animal head and the animal birthing position of the woman, which is also very sexual) and domestic (the breath-takingly bunned hair).

My children were born in our marriage bed into my hands, and this piece captures much of the vision I held for the mother of my children during that time.

I'm sorry I can't contribute any poetry here that could arise from my experience and this piece of art. I feel disappointed.

Boo, you feel angry, hurt.

Have you ever read Rilke's poem, Archaic Torso of Apollo? The staue itself has no head, arms or legs...just a torso. Amazing what you can find in a piece of art when you gaze through the surface and past expectations and labels of what it's supposed to be. When I feel strongly repulsed by something or someone I try to remmeber to ask myself what part I am playing in my reaction, and I find there is usually a valid and vlauable powerful feeling under my repulsion.

Oh, S&D! I'm neither hurt or angry. When I first saw this picture I knew beforehand it was Britney and so my attitude was already colored, and I thought it tacky and distasteful, and therefore a subject for humor.

After reading your post I can see what others might see and I think thats powerful. This is really no excuse, but I have just been thru 2 really horrific years, and I suppose my sense of humor is a bit jaded. But I certainly meant no harm, and those who really know me know that. I have a granddaughter who is very bright and is going thru a 'be like britney' stage- hence my reaction. We make fun of pop stars here.

Sorry that I ruined your poem- go ahead and write it. I think it would be beautiful.

I didn't realize that the sculpture was supposed to be Britney Spears. I'm glad I have little knowledge of or regard for her, or celebrity in general, so I can enjoy and appreciate this sculpture. There is a long history of the interest in comparison between pieces of art and the models who posed for them. It's an interesting relationship.

I know you meant no harm.

My condolences for your daughter's current role model. :) This, too, shall pass.

I was going to apologize if I offended anyone, but now I'm not. If this post arouses varying emotions, then thats a good thing. Certainly I was not calling any individual a deadass... I was using that as a goad. Write on, Ewop!

That's the problem I have with it: it's Britney. If it had not been for that, then I'd probably be fine with the statue.

lol It's my grandaughter. With my daughter it was New Kids On The Block! ugh... (and with me it was Ringo!!)

Write your poem- I would like to see it.

And I still can't see the damn picture. Aaaargh!

off the cuff this morning

Once, a sculptured birth

He can’t hear the screams
as she births, can’t see the swollen
lips that part as she straddles

the slab, lips slack in pain,
pleasure, beyond the knife
point. He senses from her shudders

that soon the newborn will christen
the air with its squalls, a serenade
into the silence of relief that will dislocate
time and cut tears
from his soul. Cupid’s arrow

will plunge through his heart
in the one moment she needs
him, for the death cry of the child

will shrivel all pretence
of penitence and he’ll turn
to ripping flesh
under his fangs.

yuck

Huh, either she's drugged up to her eyebrows, or that is not a woman in labor.

Weird indeed.
