There is nothing more dangerous....

Oh yes their is.!!!!!!!

I take it you have never ben chased two blocks up a street by a mad woman with no sense of humor and a sharp meat cleaver.!!

Oh. My. God. He just called me "little dix". I don't know whether to be honored or insulted.

it's a Beautiful island off South America...

i'd take it for a complement...

oh Goddess of the.... um... i mean Pyper...

It's a bit wider than that, there's nothing more dangerous that someone who is convined that they are right.
So your dangerous people can be religiously, politically, nationalistically or philosophically dangerous.
Anyway I'm pretty sure that's what I think...
It's probably about right...
Mostly.
Cheers

I'm not sure how a born-again christian is any more dangerous than a born and bred Jesus freak

One knows it from birth--or, at least, earliest memory.

The other just takes a little longer.

Both can be radical, if they want to be.

Whatever. I just don't see why a recent nutjob is more dangerous than a life long one.

Seems a bit ironic...

...that a country which sees itself on the moral high ground and pursuing a policy of imposed morality provided the airborne intelligence to shoot down a plane load of Baptist missionaries.

Oh...I know. After shooting down 30 drug planes in eight years it was the first mistake. Thirty...hmmm...that must have put a big dent in the trade.

Okey-dokey.

A life-long nutcase here. Though I'm not quite sure why I'm so dang dangerous.

I don't think you are. I was raised Catholic and as such I think that Christians are pretty cool people as a rule(Well more appropriately I think Religious people tend to be nice folk)

I was just pointing out that if Christians are dangerous the life long ones would be more so than newbies :)

I second Darowyn that those convinced they are right are dangerous, whether their self righteousness is religious or political. And with regard to "born again" Christians being particularly dangerous, I'd say those who see the light later in life are simply more fervent in their belief. It's a little like the guy who just quit smoking and feels compelled to share his newfound wisdom with others.

Another element is that becoming "born again" has greater relevance among more evangelical branches of Christianity. You won't find many "born again" Episcopalians or Presbyterians. These men and women come to their epiphany generally within the fold of organizations that are already actively trying to make converts, like the Southern Baptists who distribute pamphlets telling Jews and Buddhists and whomever, the error of their ways. A new convert in such a group would have a hay day spreading the "good news."

So nothing to fear from all you Catholics, Lutherans, Methodists, Congregationalists, etc. That's a load off my mind. ;)

In my experience, people who acquire religious fervor later in life tend to take the whole idea more seriously (not to mention literally) than those of us who were indoctrinated as children.

One of the nice things about getting your religious education at a young age is that, as you grow older (and presumably a little wiser), you can feel free to sift through the dogma and pull out those bits and pieces you like while discarding the rest. Or, to put it another way, if you don't teach these things to kids while they're young, then they have nothing to reject as adults and it really screws them up.

The difficult part about learning religion young has to do with how it's taught. Symbols and ideas which should be thought of metaphorically are instead poured into kids like concrete. While these ideas can be dealt with later intellectually, from a psychological and emotional standpoint, it's a bit more complicated.

When these symbols and ideas are taught in the same fashion to an adult (i.e. someone born again) who accepts them uncritically then, yes, the result can be quite dangerous.

sounds, to me like...

they're all saying 'Beware the Fanatic...'

that is, all except fgarvb1 and the Woman with the meat cleaver.... he's just talking comon sense...
