There Is No God!!!

Wow, I'm glad I read that. I had no idea Cold Mountain was being made into a film! That is excellent. It's one of the best books I have ever read; I've since given it to three people as gifts. Wow. Thanks, Star. I'm thinking maybe there is a god, then, actually.

Yea, that makes more sense. What with the work load and all, but still things don't add up.

I've been an atheist to start with, so ''Frends'' being made into a movie doesn't surprises me.

I loved Friends as a whole episode, so I'm not sure about movie being made.

I wonder who would produce such a travesty...

oh I'd say it hardly qualifies as a travesty. What's the big deal? So they make a movie. If you wanna see it, go. If you don't, don't. So what?

Here's the thing. While Hollywood continues to churn out mindless crap for the masses, there are no doubt thousands of brilliant scripts collecting dust because nobody has yet to figure out a way to make a ton of cash marketing them. One more reason greed has destroyed American culture.

Thank you. That's what I wanted to say, but I was unable to find the words.

A remake of "The Italian Job"? What next? repainting the Cistine Chapel?

While I don't argue that there are no doubt many excellent screenplays languishing in limbo, the fact is, the stupid crap movies keep getting made because people keep going to see them. Yeah, it's about money. It's show business, no more no less.

Exactly. It's no longer "We're making art, but I hope we make money, too." Now it's "We want to make money." Instead of making a movie that is good, drawing people into the theaters to see quality entertainment, they make crap that simply panders to the lowest common denominator.

When exactly did Hollywood claim to be 'making art'? The studios have always been in it for the money, don't kid yourself.

It makes you wonder if they make better movies in Socialist countries like Cuba or China. At least they aren't driven by the almighty dollar.

Maybe I am kidding myself. It just seems like the studios used to care about the quality of the films they were putting out. That just doesn't seem to be the case anymore.

Yes I agree totally.

There seems to be alot of movies from the "classic" days which are memorable, as compared to more recent releases

I'd say there's a great deal of doubt. There aren't thousands of brilliant scripts or hundreds of brilliant scripts. There are half a dozen brilliant scripts created a year and half of them are buried in the thousands of crappy scripts.

Do you really think studios are turning away wonderful stories about interesting characters? Brilliant screenplays sell themselves because good movies are always marketable.

I think this is one case where older wasn't necessarily better. Anybody ever seen old black and white slapstick? Where it was risque to show ankles, then knees and shoulders. Granted the entertainment value of a LOT of contemporary movies sucks, but I'd recommend the international section of your local Blockbuster.

Bigger cities have theatres that show new movies from abroad. And those theatres are usually accompanied by other theatres that show old classics. Do some searching around and some driving and you should be pleased. The greatest contemporary film I've recently discoverd is Chocolat and I recommend it to all who have yet to see it.

jesus loves me this i know
