If you set your sights higher than any but the most basic fuck-story, after a while you notice certain characters and situations showing up again and again in your fiction. Those are your themes, and I wonder whether anyone has noticed them in their work.

And even if you stick to your basic in-and-outer, you should notice themes or topics or problems you come back to time and again, whether it’s a cheating wife, incestuous son/daughter, revenge, unrequited love, boffing some female authority figure, exposing the slut within, the Mysterious Stranger, things like that.

So come on. Let’s set the Author’s Hangout on its ear for a change and get literate. What themes do you see in your writing?

I’ll be the first one at my own party here.

I tend to write stories pretty much from the woman’s point of view, because I think women’s feelings towards their own sexuality are a lot more interesting than men’s. (In my experience, men’s sexual feelings can be pretty much summed up by the statement: I’ve got to get laid. Women’s feelings are much more subtle and convoluted.)

My stories always seem to involve a woman’s discovery of the depth of her own sexual feelings. Since I write a lot of non-consent and BDSM, it’s usually a man who introduces them to their feelings. My women tend to be normal, everyday blahs, who suddenly discover an undreamed of capacity for passion and sexual responsiveness within themselves, and it changes their lives.

My men tend to be mysterious strangers who just seem to show up and take control of the women’s lives. I like the idea that the world is full of mystery and that something marvelous can happen to any of us at any time, like a stranger coming into your life and showing you worlds that you never knew existed. I like the idea that there’s something miraculous always hunting for us.

I think that when you boil it all down, the basic male sexual fantasy is this: I’m so sexy and potent that any woman I touch turns into a raging nymphomaniac.

I think the essential female fantasy is this: I’m so desirable that any man I touch will do anything to have me.

These things show in almost all of my stories.

On a serious note, I find myself writing pure emotion. I like looking into how a person ticks, the reason they acted the way they did in a certain situation. I like using he and she over names, I'm not really sure why. I like the vagueness of it, kind of like being on the outside looking in. I write better when I'm low than high, the highs only make my mind race.

I guess my writing to me is an enigma, I can't even explain it to myself. I hope this made even one iota of sense. :)

authority

I love tweaking the nose of authority. They tell me it was my dad. Yeah, well. Regardless, that's where it is with me. I systematically turned my daughter into an independent person to negate any authority I myself might have chosen to exert.

So when it comes up in the course of my writing I will always address it.

You've obviously been on a nice holiday (or you live somewhere sensible). ;)

The theme that you wrote about above, dr. M., appeals to me greatly because it has been mirrored in my own life a bit. I had something of a sexual "awakening" last year by a new man coming into my life and my stories refelect that somewhat. On the surface they may seem to be about a sexual affair at the office (a theme that appeals to me as well) but on a deeper level they are about a man who comes into a woman's life and turns it upside down by opening doors to new aspects of her sexuality.

I think I will continue with this theme because it is very relevant to my life right now, and hopefully entertaining to others as well. And, this thread reminds me that I really need to check out more of your stories, dr. M.

Obviously, the central theme to all my works is lesbian sex. Most of my stories feature several recurrent themes; A strong butch character, an inexperienced character, redheads, and happy endings.

I try not to have any theme predominate across all the stories and I also try branching out into different categories, but at heart I write two people falling in love more often than not.

Does anal sex qualify as a theme?

:D

In all seriousness, I've noticed I tend to write about married couples who are very much in love who are having great and sometimes wild sex.

Last year I flirted with the Survivor Contest so I branched out into a couple of different categories. But my usual work is told from the woman's point of view and even the BDSM stories are about happily attached people.

Feedback has been surprisingly good. So - ya think married people do have great sex?

If they do it's probably not with each other.

Interesting discussion Dr. M. I can't get into self-analytical depth and explanation at the moment because I have to run, but will revisit and bump this afternoon.

Off the top, my erotic female characters are always strong and intelligent. I have one major theme running through every story that I have erotically written, and two particular issues: control of desire and control of sight.

Anyhow, will come back to this, it's a fascinating topic.

Very interesting Dr. M.

I seem to see myself writing the same damn thing boy and girl meet they fuck and do whatever. Course now i'm trying to change that by writing an incest story which I promptly got rid of because I hated it but I might go back..it was very different and interesting for me to write about relative sex.

I see a lot of the same things in stories I read here at Lit. Kind of like the stuff I write. Man and woman meet they fuck and never see each other again. And sorry to say it gets a little old. I'm thinking of writing a story thats a little deeper into the characters then just the sexual side of things. Sure they will make love but for a reason that no one else knows. Hell not even me..

Yes, they do.

Hubby and I remain happily married and well-fucked. (Perhaps the former is a direct result of the latter?) ;)

I generally write from a woman's perspective but usually do so from the Third Person Point of View. Most of my females are fairly strong willed women who project a proper ( sometimes cool/remote) public image but who have dark passionate desires that boil beneath the surface. My writing tends to explore the ways in which these desires surface and are fulfilled. They often lead to wild and wanton experiences, some pushing the limits and going to some dark places. I like to focus on characterization and emotions and always try and build some conflict into a story.

When I write a story I also try to include something unique/original in it, so it can be differentiated from my other stories and from the masses of standard fuck stories that are submitted. For example I wrote an incest story, but I set it in Amsterdam and used the atmosphere of the city as the trigger for the action that followed, as opposed to the run of the mill incest stories that simply take place at home. ( There's nothing wrong with those, except there are about 100 000 of them).

Even though I have developed my own voice and style, I think each of my stories have their 'own feel' to them and no two are similar, so each writing experience is a new beginning for me, It's for this reason that I have not been able to write sequels despite having numerous requests for them.

Most likely, the latter is a direct result of the former.

Good for you S3, keep it alive.

All of my stories, posted and not, (actually there are only 2 posted, but one has several chapters, 3 others are in various stages of non-completion) are all mind control stories and all are lesbian. What do you think that says about me?

I don't really know why I've been writing mind control stories exclusively so far, it must just appeal to my subconcious. But I think the next story will be something different.

All of my stories so far have been exclusivly lesbian. I just don't find describing sex between a man and a woman exciting. I like doing it, just now writing about it. Can't really explain why.

I also write most of my stories in 1st person, from the womans point of view. I just find sex from the womans point of view much more interesting. I agree with dr maubeuse, sex means alot more to women than men. I firmly believe that women experience much, much more from sex than men do. I have heard it described that to me that a mans climax is an external feeling where a womans climax is felt from within. I find this much more sunsual and enjoy writing about it more.

Any women care to tell me if I'm right or wrong?

Holy jesus. This explains it.

This isn't a photography site at all! It's a pornography site. No wonder everybody's so obsessed with sex and there's never any discussion of lighting and composition and mastering the digital format.

You couldn't have posted this thread a YEAR ago?

Perverts.
