Theme Songs

Name that show Joe.

That's "The Littlest Hobo". I used to watch that all the time.

Born on a mountain top in Tennessee,
Greenest state in the land of the free.
Raised in the woods so's he knew every tree,
Kilt him a b'ar when he was only three.
Davy, Davy Crockett, King of the Wild Frontier.

Fought single handed through the Injun war,
Till the Creeks was whipped and peace was in store.
And while he was handling this risky chore,
Made hisself a legend, forevermore.
Davy, Davy Crockett, the man who don't know fear.

He went off to Congress and served a spell
Fixin' up the government and laws as well.
Took over Washington, so we heerd tell,
And patched up the crack in the Liberty Bell.
Davy, Davy Crockett, seein' his duty clear.

When he come home, his politickin' done,
The western march had just begun.
So he packed his gear, and his trusty gun
And lit out a grinnin', to follow the sun.
Davy, Davy Crockett, leadin' the Pioneer.

My favorite song when I was six years old.

A few more of my favs:
George, George
George of the Jungle,
Strong as he can be.
(Ahhhhhhhh)
Watch out for that tree.

George, George,
George of the Jungle,
Lives a life that's free.
(Ahhhhhhhh)
Watch out for that tree.

As mimed by Andy Kaufman:
Mister Trouble never hangs around
When he hears this Mighty sound.

"Here I come to save the day"

That means that Mighty Mouse is on his way.
Yes sir, when there is a wrong to right
Mighty Mouse will join the fight.
On the sea or on the land,
He gets the situation well in hand.

Earl - I know your second one too :)

Gauche. I am NOT Jonny from two pints....though my husband wouldn't mind being him. Apparently he quite fancies whatsher face, Jonny's Girlfriend in that.

Tolyk....awww Littlest Hobbo....loved that :)

Ok all together now!

"Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale."

"... a tale of a fateful trip,
That started from this tropic port,
Aboard this tiny ship.

The mate was a mighty sailing man,
The skipper brave and sure.
Five passengers set sail that day,
For a three hour tour, a three hour tour.

The weather started getting rough,
The tiny ship was tossed,
If not for the courage of the fearless crew,
the minnow would be lost, the minnow would be lost.

The ship set ground on the shour of this uncharted desert Isle.
With Gilligan,
The Skipper too,
The millionaire and his wife,
The movie star,
The professer and Mary Anne,
Here on Gilligans Isle."

And if you are really a fan you would know where these lyrics are from~

So this is the tale of the castaways,
There're here for a long, long time,
They'll have to make the best of things,
Its an uphill climb.

The first mate and the skipper too,
Will do their very best,
To make the others comfortable,
In the tropic Island nest.

No phones, no lights no motor cars,
Not a single luxury,
Like Robinson Crusoe,
As primitave as can be.

So join us here each week my friends,
You're sure to get a smile,
From seven stranded castaways,
Here on 'Gillican's Isle.

You got it, its from the end of the show for the credits!

Okay: not a song, but it’s stuck in my head right along side the words to the Pledge of Allegiance and “My Country Tisovee”:

Faster than a speeding bullet! More powerful that a locomotive! Able to leap tall buildings at a single bound!

"Look! Up in the sky! It's a bird! It's a plane! It's … SUPERMAN!"

Yes, Superman! Strange visitor from another planet who came to earth with powers and abilities far beyond those of mortal men! Superman! Able to change the course of mighty rivers, bend steel in his bare hands, and who -- disguised as Clark Kent, mild-mannered reporter for a great metropolitan newspaper -- fights a never-ending battle for Truth, Justice, and the American Way!

RE Gilligan: did you know that they had to change the lyrics of the song for the second season?

The verse that goes:

With Gilligan,
The Skipper too,
The millionaire and his wife,
The movie star,
The professer and Mary Anne,
Here on Gilligans Isle.

was originally:

With Gilligan,
The Skipper too,
The millionaire and his wife,
The movie star,
And all the rest,
Here on Gilligans Isle.

Apparently the Professer and Mary Anne bitched about not getting theme song billing, so Sherwood Shwartz (the producer and songwriter) changed it.

He was so aloof. I wanted him.

Overture, hit the lights
This is it, the night of nights
No more rehearsing and nursing a part
We know every part by heart...

something something
something else
something something other lyrics

And oh, what heights we'll hit!
On with the show, this is it!

If I remember the lyrics of the Beverly Hillbillys' theme song, would that necessarily have to mean that I watched the program?

Isn't it possible that I used to tune in just to hear the theme song, and then switch over to PBS to watch the McNeil/Lehrer New Hour?

~ ~ ~

Gonna tell you all a story 'bout a man named Jed
A poor mountaineer, barely kept his family fed
And then one day he was shootin' at some food
And up through the ground come a' bubblin' crude.

Oil, that is. Black gold. Texas tea.

Well, the first thing ya know, old Jed's a mil --

Uh-oh, I'm about to miss McNeil/Lehrer!

It could have happened like that.

I read the other day that Sherwood Shwartz's widow said that the networks were careful to screw him (and her) out of royalties, but they forgot about the theme song.

So now she gets a royalty everytime the show is re-run.

The performers - bumpkiss.

Ah, Mary Ann -- Thank you for my first pre-pubscent fantasies.

One for Tatey and the brits.

If you want to I'll change the situation

With Hollywood scraping the bottom of the barrel to make movies out of old crappy TV shows (Beverly Hillbillies, Charlie's Angels), I heard that Gilligan was the Holy Grail, but that there was something legal holding it up.

I'd also heard that Tina Louise (Ginger. I was a Ginger man myself) steadfastly refused to do any sort of reunion show, no matter how much money they offered her, and they offered her a lot.

Err... Not that I ever watched it, of course.

None of us did.

Question: Why did Gilligan and the Skipper continue to sleep with their hammocks like that (one on top of the other) as they had in the cramped space below deck?

I saw Mary Ann pushing some reunion show a few years ago and man, is it sad to see pigtails and puffed sleeves on a woman of a certain age. She must hate Ginger for refusing to do the reunion show even more than she hated her during those island beauty pageants. Great dress!

Yes, Tina Louise always steadfastly refused to do the reunion shows. I've heard rumors that she wanted to move on, to she didn't want people seeing how she'd aged.

Err... Not that I ever watched it, of course.
Neither did I. Ever.

That show is to my generation like The Brady Bunch was to kids ten years younger than me, and Scooby Doo was to kids twenty years younger.

I did see the ever lovely Dawn Wells (I disagree here with you Shereads). She said younger women have come up to her and said they always ask a first date who they like better, Ginger or Mary Ann. And then they go on to say guys that say Mary Ann want a relationship, Ginger guys want a roll in the hay.

Don't know.

Although, I knew a guy who'd slept on a board during three years as a POW in WWII and foreverafter slept on the floor.

Don't be dissing my Mary Ann!

I'd love to be wrecked on a South Sea island with a beautiful woman in a bare midriff outfit who bakes me coconut pie.

In fact, I think that's going into my signature.

Minder.

Who knows this?

You've got to fight for what you want
and all that you believe.....

That song will never sound the same after you've watched "Little Britain"...
