I have a deep and almost sinful love for TV theme songs (and, movies, secondarily). My friends and I play a ridiculous game where they try to think of one that I don't know. I have never lost (stipulation: themes without words are alright, by accident, but aren't really the point of the game).

What's your favorite theme song?

Are you a closet TV addict, Joe? :p

I Got A Name by Jim Croce. A man whose music was taken from us too soon.

Like the pine trees lining the winding road
I got a name, I got a name
Like the singing bird and the croaking toad
I got a name, I got a name
And I carry it with me like my daddy did
But I'm living the dream, that he can't hear.

Movin' me down the highway
Rollin' me down the highway
Movin' ahead so life won't pass me by.

Like the north wind whistlin' down the sky
I got a song, I got a song
Like the whippoorwill and the baby's cry
I got a song, I got a song
And I carry it with me and I sing it loud
If it gets me nowhere, I'll go there proud.

Movin' me down the highway
Rollin' me down the highway
Movin' ahead so life won't pass me by.

And I'm gonna go there free

Like the fool I am and I'll always be
I got a dream, I got a dream
They can change their minds but they can't change me
I got a dream, I got a dream
I know I could share it if you want me to
If you're goin' my way, I'll go with you.

Movin' me down the highway
Rollin' me down the highway
Movin' ahead so life won't pass me by.

Movin' me down the highway
Rollin' me down the highway
Movin' ahead so life won't
Pass me by.

Oh I love theme tunes too.

Really you can't beat The A team for a funky theme tune.

I have lots of fond memories of 80's kids cartoon themes.

"Cities of Gold"

"The Muskerhounds"

"80 days around the world."

I'll come back with more in a minute *L* Gotta let these ones filter out of my head.

*goes off singing aaaahahhh ahh ahh ahh searching for the cities of go o old!!!!!*

"FAME!!! I want to live forever..."

And as sick as we may all be of it by now the friends theme song is cool.

"I'll be there for you, when the rain starts to fall"

"Robin Hood, Robin Hood, riding through the glen..."

There aren't any glens in Sherwood Forest.

"Come away, come away with William Tell,
Come away to the land he loved so well..."

To the tune of Rossini's overture Willem Tell and filmed in Wales which wasn't Switzerland. When it wasn't Wales it was a very unconvincing studio set.

OMG! Fame totally rocked. I was trying to explain it to my brother the other day and he just wasn't getting it.

I was singing the theme to "Silver Spoons" recently. Oh, Ricky Schroeder.

I like the Angel theme song. All violins and drums and haunting synths.

Okay Joe, here's one:

"I want to fly, shipwrecked and comatose,
Drinking fresh mango juice,
Goldfish shoals nibbling at my toes."

<waiting to be impressed>

What's your favorite theme song?

The one from Baretta sticks in my mind lately (what with the trial and all.) Sammy Davis Junior sang it. It was so faux-cool that it was cool.

Title: "Keep Your Eye On The Sparrow"

Performed By: "Sammy Davis Jr."
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Don't go to bed, with no price on your head
No, no, don't do it.

Don't do the crime, if you can't do the time,
Yeah, don't do it.

And keep your eye on the sparrow.
When the going gets narrow.

Don't do it, don't do it.

Well, well, well.

Poor Robert Blake. If you're going to be the defendant in a celebrity murder trial, do it while you're famous. It can't be fun to see all the networks parked outside the Michael Jackson courthouse.

I really loved the theme from The Avengers. (The Patrick McNee/Diana Rigg Avengers that played in the US.)

Red Dwarf....sorry

Making you way in the world today
takes everything you've got
taking a break
something your worry
should would help a lot.

Wouldn't you like to get away?
Sometimes you've gotta go
where everybody knows your name
and they're always glad you came
You wanna be where you can see
troubles are all the same
You wanna go where everybody knows
Your name. (piano.)

The theme from "The Jeffersons", Movin' on up!

Well we're movin on up,
To the east side.
To a deluxe apartment in the sky.
Movin on up,
To the east side.
We finally got a piece of the pie.

Fish don't fry in the kitchen;
Beans don't burn on the grill.
Took a whole lotta tryin',
Just to get up that hill.
Now we're up in the big leagues,
Gettin' our turn at bat.
As long as we live, it's you and me baby,
There ain't nothin wrong with that.

Well we're movin on up,
To the east side.
To a deluxe apartment in the sky.
Movin on up,
To the east side.
We finally got a piece of the pie.

Come on, who doesn't love this song? :D

The Sopranos theme song is great - gets me in mafia mood. And I love it when it comes on the radio while I'm in the car. Terrific driving song.

That's a q. for Joe.

theme tunes

"He's amazing!
He's fantastic!
Wherever there is danger he'll be there.
He's the Ace!
He's As-tound-ing!
He's the strongest, he's the quickest, he's the best....!"

etc....

Sorry, couldn't think of any others. Sad, I know, but I don't watch TV much.

I'm in a retro mood -
Can we forget The Goodies? Doctor Who, Monty Python's Flying Circus? Falty Towers?

"You always say you love me, and so I ask you over again,
You always tell me: Perhaps, perhaps, perhaps."

Go for it Joe. I'll be impressed if you can.

Pear - I already know you know this one. :D

Yeah, I won't give it away. But I knew the song from a long time ago, it was originally recorded in Spanish and my father used to like it and sing it.

Pear

"There's a voice, it keeps on callin' me. Down the road, is where is I'll always be. Every stop I make, I make a new friend. Can't stay for long, just turn around and I'll be gone again."

Name that show Joe.

When you find yourself in danger
When you're threatened by a stranger
When it looks like you will take a lickin'
There is someone waiting who will
hurry up and rescue you
Just call for Super Chicken

I've really gotta get a life.

Through early morning fog I see
Visions of the things to be,
The pains that are withheld for me,
I realize and I can see...

That suicide is painless,
It brings on many changes
And I can take or leave it if I please.

The game of life is hard to play,
I'm going to loose it anyway,
The loosin' card I'll someday lay;
So this is all I have to say...

That suicide is painless,
It brings on many changes
And I can take or leave it if I please.

The only way to win is cheat
And lay it down before I'm beat
And to another give my seat
For that's the only painless feat.

That suicide is painless,
It brings on many changes
And I can take or leave it if I please.
And you can do the same thing if you please.

Now I'm on a roll

My favorite theme songs are both because I love the lyrics and yet they're usually played instrumental. That's odd. (Sorry, it just dawned on me. I babble when I'm exhausted. Apparently while typing, even. Stop it!)

Speak Softly Love from The Godfather and Suicide is Painless from M*A*S*H.
