Well, taking a step back, I think there can be a story featuring a 40-something woman who, having spent most of her life as a nun, leaves the convent to experience everyday life.

some of the possibilities are outlined above, but I for one don't think the well is dry...there is the religious, the non-social, the handicapped, the unlucky, the ugly, the remote residing....

I think everyone so far assumes " plucking", but it might be a nice twist not to.... as long as others in the story enjoy enough sex to pay off the reader along the way.

Imagine the prodigal son returned at age 50 from Antarctic explorations, to find his family gone omnisexual. At his coming home party, he is esssentially ignored, as the fucking predominates. He wanders the house and grounds, observing....

Just a couple of thoughts -

First, I don't think there is any need for the virgin (man or woman) to have some kind of social "affliction". They could be attractive and confident, but have a zillion reasons why they haven't had sex yet. I think a little more imagination on that score might go a long way.

Second, I agree that the sex might not take place between the virgin and someone else. It could be observed by the virgin or, better yet, imagined. How about someone who, in their regrets, believes everyone else but them is having outrageous sex?

Third, the virgin could be sexually active but, for example, inexperienced. You only need to put inverted commas around "virgin" to open out all kinds of other possibilities
