Me.

Ok,so tonight my evening got cut short by doing something I generally don't do.To be honest I haven't done it in about four or five years.
I got into a fight on the subway.Sure I go in between or make it my business when girls are bothered by some asshole or some idiot is doing whatever that scares/offends people on public transportation, but until tonight it hasn't gotten to a fight.

I was at this pub with a few friends that were going to leave,so I checked with other friends and they were in a club a bit away so I decided to continue the evening with them in the club, something that entailed me going by subway a couple of stations.
Amongst the usual party goers and others were a homosexual couple, they had their arms around each other and were exchanged a kiss or two, their business not mine.Though the station after the one I got on at three intoxicated guys dressed to the nines in their mid twenties got on and immediately started to harass the guys who just happened to be in love.

The pair just tried to avoid the situation that escalated to pushing and harsh words from the three assailants. That's when I stepped up to the plate, said my peace and got called "Fag" and "homo lover" amongst other things, figuring that they wanted to fight no matter what I started swinging.

The fine upstanding citizens otherwise on the train all of a sudden displayed an interest in helping me out,as things started to go downhill for me.

Either way,my evening got cut short,I got a thanks from the pair as we got off the subway as well as a handkerchief for my nose.

I think a nosebleed, split lip and scraped knuckles is more than a reasonable price to pay for standing up for your views.

I'm rambling though.
Time to get a Whiskey and pomder if I'm not to old to pull that kind of stunts.

I'll remember that comment tomorrow when my face has swelled up.

It is far as I know.
I got a problem with people that don't have common sense and intelligence.

You'll heal with no permanent damage I presume. It's good to know there are a few people left who are willing to risk their own personal injury to do what's right.

No permanent damage at all.
What you're saying is another thing that pisses me off.
No one in that subway lifted a finger when those two guys were being hassled, but when the fight was on then all of a sudden everyone and their graqndmother was willing to do something.

Why the hell do people have such a hard time taking that first step ?

This world would be so much better if we had more people with the guts to do what you did.

Very commendable indeed.

Nice going. People have to resist violent assholes. I don't know if you could have done any better, but you could have done a lot worse.

I know I did.I just wonder if there was a smarter way to do it.

The smarter way? Take the element of surprise.

If you feel that it's a hopeless situation, use the element of surprise. Rip a handful of hair from one guy, as you kick the other square in the nuts. That will leave just one guy usually.

Because they feel a diffusion of responsibility. Too many people, all of them standing around thinking "isn't someone going to do something?" It's called "bystander apathy" and it's pretty common, unfortunately.

You, on the otherhand, did way good! *hug* I'm proud of you =)

Thanks, usually people step in pretty often around here,I just got the nagging feeling the were slow off the mark because the pair were two guys.

Thanks,I tried but there are limits to what one can do and expect to get away with if the law makes a sudden appearance.

Lack of courage. We've been taught to mind our own business, especially (I think) people who live in larger metropolitan areas.

Not to get too cliche, but hopefully one of the lessons of 9/11 is that we all need to be more aware and take charge more often.

Well,we haven't had that kind of incident here.Though living in an area where the majority are immigrants there is a greater solidarity and closeness in comparison with other areas where there are a majority of non immigrants as far as I know,at leat in the metropolitan areas.

You took on three intoxicated men that were harassing a gay couple?

Bravo. :rose:

I am impressed beyond words, and I thank you for being you. Hope you don't ever stop believing in the need to follow your heart.

Subway carts here are kinda cramped so I went with the odds.
Not to mention I'm pretty fast when it comes to running.
Didn't think it'd escalate to a fight, seldom do.I still feel stupid for starting the fight though.

Either way all is well that ends well.

Thanks for the kind words. :)

Just remember, it wasn't your intent to start a fight, it was to stop the insanity.

Again, I thank you.:rose:
