Yeah, you recognize them, don’t you; the Democrat Presidential Candidates.

The ‘token’ woman, token black, token Hispanic, only thing missing is the token gay person but then, this is the don’t ask, don’t tell era, right?

Almost perfectly politically correct line-up of sub par candidates, but by God, they are all equal under the law, and oh, yes, they kinda ended it with a tongue in cheek adherence to the will of God, and a belief in baseball; Democrats no less, sighs…

The Iraq War: Unanimous, get out as soon as possible.

Health Care: Unanimous, socialized medicine for all, forced and mandatory, no exceptions.

Social Security: Unanimous, take private enterprise off the table, raise retirement age, remove income tax cap, tax increase on all income.

Energy: No Nuclear Plants, no exploration or drilling, add $3.00 per gallon tax to ‘wean Americans’ off of gasoline. Build Windmills, conserve, tax oil companies and industry, carbon tax.

Trade: abolish NAFTA and the WTO, prohibit outsourcing, initiate tariffs and trade controls.

Immigration: make the entire nation a ‘sanctuary’ for illegal aliens.

Tobacco: Increase tax on all tobacco products, ban public smoking in all areas with Federal legislation.

In case you missed it, that was the result of the Democrat Presidential Candidates debate live on MSNBC, live, tonight from 6pm Pacific to 8pm. It will most likely be rerun several times tonight.

Now I am off to suffer through another two hours of the poorly done series on PBS, the Ken Burns special, “The War”.

Wish me luck.

Thank you for suggesting that three-quarters of the population of the United States could only aspire to the status of "token" in any serious political contest.

Ah, attack mode so early Shang?, sighs...clop on back to your stall, take a long draught nuzzle some oats and consider that women neither had the vote nor access to education less than a hundred years ago and the political aspirations remain feminine centric, as African Americans and Hispanics remain ethno centric in their aspirations, a matter of getting what they think they deserve from society.

Perhaps in another hundreds years of democratic participation they will be ready for the executive office, not now.

Amicus...the mustang in the woodpile...

Your post aptly demonstrates their superiority to at least one male aspirant.

Yeah, yeah, sure Shanglan, why not just come out and say you did not watch the debate and are just floating until someone on the news tells you what happened.

eh?

Nothing to do with my point, Amicus - or yours. You did, after all, just state that women and minorities (and presumably gays) en masse need not apply.

Well, it rather is the point Shanglan, if you did not watch the debate then you are just picking a fight.

Anyone can apply, hell, even I ran for President once upon a time, but had you seen the debate, the level of competence was not even close to being presidential in any aspect or stretch of the imagination.

Nothing to do with singling out the woman and the black man to call "token," Amicus, or in posting your rant about how everyone who doesn't look like you is too underdeveloped to manage the office.

When you use fighting words, you get fights.

Is this a private circle jerk? Or can anyone join it?

Personally, I hope that Hitlery gets the nomination. Her unflagging divisiveness and shrill rhetoric will ensure a conservative landslide in November 2008......Carney

Y'know, Shanglan...et al, sometimes I think you folks grew up in a different world than I did.

There is something deeper, too, that I find hard to grasp and examine; that of a generation that has rejected a competitive, merit system of determining social status and opts for social acceptance according to an accepted morality alien to mine.

In more blunt terms, and specifically women and blacks, since you made note of them above, you find it socially correct to accommodate their inability to compete with men, or white men, make excuses for them and lower standards for them to, 'grant' them equal status before they have earned it.

I think this is destructive of both women and black people as it leaves them feeling in your debt for your tolerance, and destructive to society in general as it lowers the quality of performance in all areas.

Perhaps it is a generational thing, that I reflect an earlier set of values, it is difficult for me to be completely objective in self analysis, but I had to compete to establish my competence in any area I ventured, I was granted nothing more that the right to compete and then had to fight to maintain what I had achieved.

You seem to have a mindset that everyone need not compete but rather is granted status regardless of merit.

I object to that and I will continue to do so.

There are, without question, in the world of white men, women, blacks, Hispanics and many others who have risen to a competitive level and have earned their places in society, but in general, those minorities, for the most part, cannot compete on a level playing field no matter how you wish it were so.

I shall have similar comments when the Republican Presidential candidates debate in a few weeks and they will be as cutting and cruel as my remarks are on the Democrats. I think very little of candidates from either party and thus it is mainly issues that I involve myself with and you already know my root premises concerning issues.

Hey, Carney, nope not private, although I was beginning to have my doubts.

All the odds seem to favor your hopes, she seems a shoo-in at this point, I nominated Thompson and Gingrich for the other side, but the peanut gallery booed me off the stage.

such a deal...

We are in violent agreement. Newt is my best hope, but alas, he seems an unlikely nominee. FDT is the next best (and much more electable) alternative.

Go Hitlery!.......Carney

Exactly. A right you seem hell bent on denying any female, or any man who isn't white.

Doesn't matter how you say it, you still come out as the sexist, racist, homophobic bigot that you are.

Now I need an antacid, you just spoiled my breakfast.

"... the sexist, racist, homophobic bigot that you are..."

Gee, matriarch, maybe I should put that in my sig line to make it easier for folks to avoid me?

I suppose it is a waste of time as you appear not to be receptive to anything outside your own mindset, but, I have been and done many things in my life.

I have been a stock boy and a store clerk, done stoop labor in the fields and driven tractors, trucks and bull dozer's for pay, and in each case, I kept the job if I could do the work.

I have been a logger and a faller and a choker setter, again for pay, and a butcher, and a factory worker, in each case, no one offered a hand up, My just the right to apply for the position and by performance, hold it or lose it.

My entry into broadcasting and reporting was no less auspicious, I had to fight to get in and fight to stay. I never got a break for having a pretty face, perky tits or a sweet ass, nor for having black or brown skin; performance, merit and excellence got me where I went and kept me there.

But being female, black, brown or yellow doesn't get you anywhere in my world or in the real world outside the politically correct one you seem to reside in.

So, take your antacids, my dear, better yet, take two Amicus and call me in the morning.

ahem...

God, if we could get a Democratic candidate who would just stick to half of that platform past election day, there'd be some chance we could pull this nation out of the nose dive the Bush administration has sent it into.

It will be interesting to see who the Republicans can field in the next go round who can keep a straight face on running on the "legacy" of El Great Leader. Perhaps we can get more Republican candidates by going around and banging on stall doors in men's rooms to get their attention. :)

Saw a great bumper sticker the other day: "Bush Supporters: Embarrassed Yet?"

This morning I thought you might be alright. Now, I'm thoroughly nauseated and disgusted. What's with the misogyny?

I actually feel bad for you. Who hurt you so badly that you feel the need to verbally, or symbolically stomp every woman you encounter?

I am sure you will neither see nor admit it, but you provide a concise example of wha small streak of misogyny that may inhabit my being.

"...Who hurt you so badly that you feel the need to verbally, or symbolically stomp every woman you encounter?..."

Your personification of an issue is a typical feminine approach. Worse than that, it gives you an excuse, a rationalization for avoiding the essence of my assertions by attributing them to a personal flaw you imagine I might 'personally' have.

Wrong.

Address the issue my dear, rise above your 'catty' instincts and use your mind for a change....enter the real world of rational competition.

Tut, tut... never read Amicus on an empty stomach ;)

My 2 cents? Didn't see the debate but I doubt it was the obvious slanted tokenism Amicus sees in all political opinion divergent from his own. There must be a country somewhere for people of such ilk under rightwing dictatorship, where woman have little or no rights and gays are bashed... Ooh I know, Burma.

Gee, Neon, somewhere in the back of my mind I had you stored away as a fairly good guy/girl/? hmmm...

There is no 'Burma', anymore, they call it something else now, and no more 'Road to Mandalay" or poems rhyming with Rangoon, they, the rotten commies, changed the names of both.

And, sorry, the 'right wing' umbrella does not cover me, I am even worse than that, I am an American.

I know who built this country and it wasn't the black slave labor, or the long suffering women, or even the Chinese laborers or the conquered Native Americans and displaced Spanish or the French who ran to Canada.

It was those damned WASP's White Anglo Saxon Protestants, that you learned to hate as a little boy/girl/it.

Ahem...

I only get pissy when the sand is up to the level of your chin :D
Can't remember what the hell they call Burma these days despite it being on every news broadcast... old habits and all that.

On the US election... it is probably time a 'token' woman or 'token' black was elected. Doesn't really matter if they are Dem's or Rep's, it is just time to show you can step out from the mould. Whether they would actually survive to be sworn in, would show much more about 'Americans' than it would about politics.

Burma now = Myanmar

Rangoon now = Yangon

(Still haven't found that library, I take it)

But the road to Mandalay is still there--or at least was the last time I traveled it. Mandalay's not much to sniff at, but it has more charm than a mudhole like Madras, India, does.

And, indeed, they'd have a ball with your political views there, I have no doubt. Would spear you the first time you suggested they were commies (they are reactionary militarists--and, again, you are badly in need of a basic education) and would kind of cross their eyes when you tried to explain free enterprise (or even indoor plumbing to them), though. If you go, take two bottles of scotch (one to get into the country and one to get out at the airstrip--I wouldn't exactly call it an airport) and lots of pencils and chewing gum--just to get to your hotel in one piece. I suggest asking for room 210 at the Strand in Yangon. There's a nasty black ring around the tub, but it's the only room in the hotel with a tub--and I suspect you need to wash the dirt off you fairly often.

I said you disgusted me. I didn't say that I don't like you.

So you're essentially saying that you dislike women because they're...

female, and feminine?

What's wrong with the feminine approach? I'm not going to apologize for being a woman. And it's called intuition, well that and your profile metioned something about being divorced. That coupled with my horrible, ghastly intuition led me to hypothesizing that you might have some pent up "frustrations" if you will. I mean some woman probably liked you enough to marry you at some point. You can't be all that bad, even though that's what you'd like us all to think. And then there's a light touch of psychology thrown in there...

Not to mention, what sort of man shows up at an erotica website just to debate politics and play devil's advocate with an entire message board?

I'm guessing bored, sexually frustrated, and angry.
Am I getting warmer?

I'm still not letting go of my hypothesis. Angry, ignorant people lash out at others.
I don't find it to be especially noble that you lash out at folks who historically have had a more difficult time making advancements in jobs and the like.
Knowing how hard you've worked and struggled yourself, I'd think you'd have more empathy than this. But I suppose you think empathy is strictly a female trait.
Maybe there's a touch of that rolling around in there with all the misogyny?

-But the one thing that my goofy female intuition is telling me Amicus, is that you're afraid of smart women. There are some you can laugh at and call bimbos, write them off; and use them as an example - justifying to yourself why women shouldn't have the same rights that penis wielders do...

Now, a smart woman is dangerous, but a smart one with a sweet ass is most dangerous don't you think?
I personally think this is what you're most afraid of...
Does someone have a touch of Venus envy?
I don't even have to use my sweet ass. I just have to own it.

If you met me Amicus, you'd fall all over yourself just to talk to me. My female intuition tells me this as well. It gets me far. I could eat you for lunch and spit out the seeds. No need to be jealous dear. Just like being a man is one of your glorious assets, having a sweet ass is one of mine.
