Lincoln, Neb. resident Connie Vogt is a single working mother helping her two sons through college and taking care of her elderly mother who has dementia. She told Channel 8 KLKN-TV that she had a mastectomy in November after an irregular mammogram result showed she was at significant risk of developing breast cancer. Two months later, she suffered complications and had to have emergency surgery that her insurance wouldn’t cover because it was out of network.

The result was medical debt, lost wages from taking time off work, and a deferred mortgage payment.

To make matters worse, her home valuation nearly doubled, significantly increasing her property taxes. She said the new mortgage payments are almost $700 more a month and take up 50% of her income.

Republican Dominance: Nebraska has a Republican trifecta, meaning the Republican Party controls the governor’s office, the secretary of state, the attorney general, and the state legislature1

my heart goes out to this woman, regardless of whom she votes for: she's in an impossible situation while guilty of only trying her best to do what she can for her family. No-one should suffer so much from medical expenses; no-one should find themselves in this position.

her son's set up a GoFundMe page asking for help and, if this is a genuine story, i hope she gets some relief and doesn't lose her home.I can only hope that if she votes republican, she might think a little on maybe swapping that for a democrat.

In the UK you could survey a thousand people and not find a single person who could explain what 'medical debt' means.

Jus' sayin'.
Now, mansplain to an old guy why in the hell can't the USA do the same thing?

We can land a man on the moon. We can produce more vaccines at the snap of a finger than any country in the world. We built a flying space station. We claim there isn't anything we can't do; this is America and yet we have people in poverty, in medical need. Many are facing daily hunger, and lacking shelter. The basic needs of a human. Why?

We have a lunatic, convicted felon that people believe has a plan that hasn't any evidence of working: Drill baby, drill, and tariff baby tariff! What the hell? Damned lemmings?

We have a majority of Congress that follows him like a stray dog looking for a bone to be handed to them. Whatever happened to them? How did they become people like JD Vance, Matt Gates, Bobbert, and others? Who elects such buzzards?

Profits for shareholders, that pay for the bribes that lobbyists hand to politicians so that the system continues.

Back to the basics–corporate greed. What would happen if we dissolved corporations, made them worker-owned, and legislated out lobbyists?

Whaddaryoo, some sort of dirty commie?

Won't someone think of the billionaires with their next private island and Supreme Court Justice to buy?

Your hope won't help her at all. How much money did you send her? :)

She lives in Nebraska and it's a hard core Republican state. No sympathy here for any of these people. Would Trump or Vance cry for her? Give me a break.

Well. ? Hell? Her parent with dementia needs to help ends meet by watching her kid! That would enable her to go out and work harder!

JD solved this already !

she shuld declare herself as an illegal immigrant

would get free health care, housing n MOAR!

Somehow in her mind poor people are Republican's fault. There's 200,000,000 poor Chinamen. Let's blame Trump! :)
That is a good idea about Trump's blame. Sounds like a good strategy. He did try to build hotels and golf courses there. And he put those tariffs in place that raised the prices of those cheap goods they make. Higher prices meant fewer toys made, so they got less pay. So, yeah, let's blame them for high-priced Christmas stuff, Fourth of July fireworks costs, and the ridiculous prices on those foreign-made Trump banners and T-shirts. Damned poor people in China, yeah, let's add that to Trump's list of sins. Why,... lock him up! Add that line of vindictive blather as well. 🤪

“There will always be poor people in the land. Therefore I command you to be openhanded toward your brothers and toward the poor and needy in your land” (Deut. 15:11).

exactly!

the system still more or less works in the UK, despite the tories' attacks on it; one of the few things Britain can truly be proud of.

it's scare tactics over here in the USA; they charge a fortune for medicine/healthcare and insurance, so those able to get it feel desperate to hang onto it... they are force-fed the notion (by all parties who serve to benefit by just that) that the kind of system in the UK would mean losing their doctor, losing access to certain medication, mean they can't have the health insurance they have because 'paying for everyone' means everyone suffers when that is entirely the opposite of the truth!

coming from the UK, I can't say I really noticed the relatively small percent of my wages (and everyone pays from theirs) taken each month along with taxation. What it did mean was I never ONCE had to consider 'can I afford to go to the doctor?' or a specialist, a hospital, have an operation. The safety net was there for every citizen, and if one fell on hard times, you weren't punished medically by losing healthcare; most people who become unemployed are out of work for a very limited time. Those whose health deteriorates so they cannot return to work don't need to suffer because of that. It translates to a happier, healthier population that gets regular health checks many don't receive in the USA because of fears of costs.

I try. I contribute to some organizations to help out.

Presidents, in their unique position, could do a tremendous amount of positive good in that direction. However, that is never what it should be. Veterans, for instance, get word salad praise every election cycle with little done to get them off the streets or provide the medical care they deserve. That's a tragedy in my mind. Ask them for the ultimate sacrifice and then neglect them in their times of need. Trump just asks, 'What was in it for them?' Then, he goes out to play another round of golf and gives himself another trophy. Suckers and losers, don't bring those amputees to my events; I can't stand to see them; they give me the willies.

I support one veteran family in their financial hardships. For the last eight years, I've been giving them free rent and utilities. It's not helping my retirement, but I'm okay with helping a brother in need. Does that count?

Not sure Jesus deemed boasting about it necessary. :)

The Biden system works for illegal aliens and fucks American citizens.

I’m a progressive socialist.
In a country of supposed capitalists, why does America rely on a system where businesses/employers are shouldering the burden of healthcare?

At the very least it's an incentive to have a job. :)

From what I remember, Jesus told everyone not to blab about his miracles, but they did anyway, and the news spread throughout the region. That act created new believers and gave hope for salvation—or something akin to that.

Where would Christianity be today if word had not been spread as he asked them to keep it quiet? [He probably knew it was impossible to keep good secrets and that the more he hushed them, the more eager they were to spread the word.]

When the term 'pay it forward' became newsworthy and more widespread, I noticed more people sharing the concept by doing some good deeds. Dining alone as an old geezer with a flowing and graying beard and grungy worn clothes, I was a recipient once in a restaurant. I asked for the check and was told a couple that just left had paid it for me. I laughed. I had noticed a young couple whispering to a waiter and going over the check. I thought to myself they might not have the money to pay it, but the waiter nodded and walked away, seeming to be okay with the bill issue. I was at the point of offering to pay their check; irony, huh?

What's my point, you ask? If I didn't share my story, it certainly wouldn't prompt others to be kinder and consider helping out someone in need. Even Bill Graham shared his stories on national television in a similar vein.

Boasting, you assert? Nah. If I wanted to boast, I'd share more and larger deeds than the one I did share.

Let he who is without sin cast the first stone, a guy said to a bad woman as her accusers faded away while he idly drew something in the dirt with a stick. When he looked up, her accusers were gone. So, how about you? Be gone over such a... not an issue matter.

Welp if your concerns are money..... try looking at where 150 billion dollars are being pissed away...hint (Ukraine) (Israel)
Or to support the illegal aliens.....FYI the illegals are getting free health care..... this lays squarely on the current crime family in power's shoulders......
Oh' and the illegals have near bankrupted the Denver hospitals...80 million in the hole.......
Start there with your virtue signaling.....
You voted for this, this is what you wanted.......
So enjoy your day paying off other people's debt and paying for the well-being of the illegal aliens.....just say'in 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

I don't always agree with you, but this is one time that I do.... good on you for stepping up......👍
