The Walking Dead IC

As he meets with Matilda he shakes her hand a little longer than normal and smiled. " I sure could use something to eat " smiling at her. As the others converse about the events Steven noticed how lovely the girls all looked even with such problems with hygiene they all looked well taken care of but he hasn't bathed in weeks and it showed.

"Steven's right. We need to find shelter and fast. Those gunshots will draw in every one of those things within three miles. ANyone know of a building nearby? Preferably one with a barn or decent size shed for Clip Clop here."

Ashley was kind of quiet as the everyone introduced themselves and discussed what had just happened. The people did seem like a friendly bunch though.

"No I haven't seen anything like that from where I came from"

meeting the group

Steven looked around "I'm not from around here but I bet the soldier knows a place " as he looks at him. " plus I haven't seen much for miles, I could go for a nice hot meal" as his stomach growled.

"Food I have. Shelter I need. Lets find a safe place then we can all eat and share our stories. SOund like a plan?"

"Yes," Mathilda said. "There are some buildings farther up the road, aren't there? Couldn't we set up camp in one of them?"

Jack was quiet as he studied the others, listening to them introduce themselves. HE waited for a few moments before he introduced himself.

"Well, not that the rank matters anymore, I'm Sgt. Jack Coleman. Finding shelter is a good idea, but I don't really know of anyplace myself. Closet safe place I know of is the armory I just left, an hour that way."

He pointed a thumb behind him for a moment before tilting his head to the side for a moment, cracking it softly.

"If anyone wants a ride while we find the shelter, feel free to climb on in. I got room for four more, plus a gunner. Although I probably wouldn't suggest firing the main weapon since it's so loud. I'm game for finding some shelter."

He stood up, stretching his arms before letting them drop to the side to see if anyone was going to take him up on his offer.

Mathilda

Suddenly feeling how tired her legs were, Mathilda looked around. Two men and two women on foot and Nikki on her horse.

"I would like to ride," she said a bit hesitantly. If she entered the car, she had not much influence on where they would go, but she would be safe from walkers.

joined others

Thanks Sgt Jack, I'll take up that.offer and grabbed his gear and got into the vehicle. Ill be glad to mount the main gun but only shoot as last resort. As Steven jumps up into the turret. Waiting on the others . Steven pointed out someone will have to ride with Nikki

"Clip Clop is over loaded as it is, let me throw some of my gear into the truck, then someone can ride with me. Preferably whoevers lightest. Poor boys been working real hard for the last few months and is exhausted. He needs time to relax." She strokes the horse and looks at the group. "How far up the road are these houses?"

"I think that I'm pretty light" Ashley says as Nikki tells them that a light person will have to ride with her. Also Ashley doesn't have loads of equpiment on her either

Mathilda

Steven got in the truck, and Mathilda took a tighter grip on her bag and climbed in too. She settled down, took her backpack off for only the second time of the day and felt her spine relax and her body move backwards a moment as it adjusted to the weight not being there anymore.

"Would your dog like to ride, Nikki? He might be as exhausted as your horse? What is his name?" Mathilda poked her head out off the door again.

arrived at small township

As we pulled up to the gas station on the main street of town, it was a really small town. There was a bank, post office, some small businesses and a motel across the street. Steven decided to do a quick perimeter check and lay some traps and alarms before settling in for the night. As he took a look around Steven was thinking how similar his home town was back in Florida. He missed going out in his boat and fishing on a nice sunny day.

Steven laid out a few traps and alarms and headed back to the the group, as he turned the corner of the bank across the way there was a few walkers walking his direction " oh great Dumbass more goobers to stab" saying to himself as he gets his tomahawk out and proceeds to take them out. Killing three stragglers.

Steven informed the group of the walkers and let them know of the traps that were set. Looking at his watch his father gave him. He decided the motel was his next point of interest after picking up something to eat from the gas station.

As everyone who wanted to ride in the vehicle got in, Jack dropped down and walked over to Nikki and Ashley.

"I'm not sure how far the next exit is, but I'll set up some sort of signal fire for you to see. You two be careful."

He climbed back into the MRAP, starting back down the road. The exit was only fifteen miles further up the road, and the little town wasn't much to Jack. Well, some place was better than nothing for him. Pulling up into the gas station, he parking the MRAP so that there was a small space to squeeze through between the truck and the front of the gas station, on the driver's side.

"Better than nothing, right?"

He gave a smile and pulled out one of the 9mm barettas, handing it and a full clip to Mathilda.

"We'll clear out the gas station before getting settled in."

Picking up the silenced m4, he climbed out of his door and waited next to the partial open store door.

Mathilda

Startled she looked at the gun in her hand.

"We'll clear out the gas station before getting settled in."Jack said and waited beside the door of the shop. The ride had been uneventful. But now ... she shuddered. The time spent in the car hadn't been long enough to get over the fright and recover from the adrenalin flush during the fight before and now again she felt her body tense.

Steven got out before Mathilda could muster enough courage to get out off the car too and disappeared around a corner. Taking a deep breath Mathilda slipped out the door and squeezed herself through the small gap until she stood close beside Jack.

A man she had to look up to, which didn't happen often to her.

"And now," she whispered, "will you open the door farther or should I?"

Nick's mind still whirled at the abrupt change of events this evening had taken. For weeks he had been alone, and now he found himself in the company of a small group of survivors...a formidable force, as it seemed, as the horde of walkers had been made short work of by the half dozen people their group consisted of. Everyone here seemed very capable...they would HAVE to be, in order to have found a way to survive this long...but Nick had always believed it best to err on the side of caution. After the last of the walkers were finished, he slowly followed Steven down by the others and watched them introduce themselves to each other.

The small band did not seem to mean any harm...in fact, they genuinely seemed to want to join forces in order to survive. Nick found their sense of mutual trust and community endearing and overwhelmingly appealing...other survivors he'd run into over the past weeks had been outright hostile.

When the suggestion to ride in the vehicle Jack had in his possession was brought up, he had gotten into the vehicle. He was still feeling as if in a daze by the events...as the vehicle moved forward, he had not yet spoken to any of the others...almost feeling as if, by speaking, he'd find out he was dreaming and would wake up alone yet again.

He stared forward, not speaking as the vehicle rumbled down the road. He supposed the others most likely thought he was in shock, but the truth was, he was lost in thought, pondering how this new turn of events was going to affect him. Before he'd only had to rely on himself...with a group, even though there was safety in numbers, there was also less of a chance to be unnoticed; both by walkers, or by other survivors who had bad intentions. The dynamic for his survival had shockingly changed all at once, and things were definitely going to be different than before.

It wasn't long before the vehicle stopped in front of another gas station, and Steven, the man who'd introduced himself as Jack, and the woman who'd said her name was Mathilda had all gotten out of the MRAP, leaving him alone in the backseat, leaving him sit in silence. After a few moments, Nick shrugged, and also exited the vehicle, pulling his hatchet from the loop at his side. Seeing that Jack already had someone watching his back, with Mathilda being at the entrance with him, Nick decided he best help Steven with the far side of the building. He began to walk around the building in the direction he'd seen Steven go.

"I'll open it further. Even if the walker looks dead, shot it in the head. I have a plan for the bodies. Oh yeah..."

He pulled out a penlight and handed it to her. He wasn't sure if the power was still on in the gas station, so he showed her out to hold the light as an aimpoint for the weapon. He did a quick check of her grip before standing by the door, a penlight out of his own.

"You take the right and I'll go left. Yell if you have trouble."

He counted to three before putting his back against the door, giving it a mighty push inward. He went to the left, moving his light wide. The interior of the front was small, three metal shelving units spaced three feet apart and extending down ten feet. The front counter was off to the left of the door, five feet from it and extending down six feet. The overhead cigarette holders was mostly empty, only a handful of packs left. A small hallway extended further down the left side of the store, ending in a pair of doors marked for the men's and women's restroom. Two coolers covered the right wall while three more were along the back wall. A single door marked storeroom and office was on the left side of the coolers. The store was mostly devoid of food and drinks, mostly trash littering the store.

Jack moved down the front of the shelves slowly, swinging to the right at the end of the shelves. One walker was slumped in the corner of the coolers. He lifted his pistol and shot the walker in the forehead. The crack of the shot was loud in the small space. He heard a growl to his right and turned, scanning the other two aisles quickly. The cooler aisle was empty, but a crawler was moving towards him down the middle aisle. The crawler stopped with a second shot to the forehead. He glanced up to see how Mathilda was faring, hearing movement behind the coolers at the same time.

Mathilda

He had a plan for the bodies? Mathilda had a plan for the bodies too, burn them or throw them in a deep pit. She wondered what Jack was planning when she entered after him.

The pencil light in her left hand threw eerie shadows in the room. Slowly, shining the light this way and that way, Mathilda moved forward. Nothing was hiding behind the counter.

Her next goal was to reach the doors of the restrooms. Both doors were closed, she hoped no-one had closed them behind a walker. A shot startled her. A quick glance to Jack told her he was okay and no walker was closing in on him. A second shot though, made her wonder if he had missed the first time, or if there were more walkers around.

It certainly would alert all walkers in the neighborhood, and she looked back at the door, wondering if she should go back and close it. But since she didn't know if there was a backdoor, she decided against it and continued on to the restrooms, wishing she hadn't left her spear leaning against the vehicle when Jack handed her the light.

Softly she knocked at the door to the ladies room, and waited if she heard something move inside. Carefully she opened the door after a little while, and scanned the small entree with only a washing basin in it. Sure no walker was hiding, she entered and kneeled down, to look through the gap beneath the toilet door. She saw nothing and got up again to open the door. Just a toilet. Nothing else. Relieved she headed out and closed the door behind her.

Now the men's room. Again she knocked softly and waited a few seconds. She thought she heard something, but wasn't sure because of noise behind her. A moment she dithered if she should help Jack, but then opened the door, and saw a small form coming at her. She knocked it on the head with the pistol. A little one. Maybe three, or four years old when alive. Now she put the pistol against its temple, and pulled the trigger.

"I hope you find peace now, little one," she mumbled. She didn't know why she did it. When she finished an adult walker she never felt the need to say it out aloud, but with children the need rose according to the smallness of the walker.

Stepping over the small form she checked the room. One stall, one urinal. She shone her light around before she opened the stall. That too was empty and relieved she left the room, leaving the small figure behind.

Now there was only the door marking the office and storeroom left to open.

Not knowing how big the space behind it was, she didn't want to go in on her own, and looked for Jack.

"Together?" she asked softly, pointing at the office door.

at the village

As Steven turned around headed towards the way he came. Going to the gas station, he saw that Nick was behind him. He informed Nick of the walker situation and the traps and let him know this area was secure. Nick and Steven both headed to the gas station and just as we turned the corner shots were fired. Steven and Nick ran in weapons drawn. Steven pulled out the bloody tomahawk and found a couple of dead walkers. " y'all ok back there " Steven yelled as he was checking out the food on the shelves still intact. He grabbed a twinky and couldn't resist. " man I'm so glad they brought these back.' Pointed out to Nick.as he tore one open.and eat it seeing the expression on Nick's face " what? I'm hungry " says with a mouththful of twinky. The boys catch up with Jack and Matilda as they scope around for more signs of live or death for that matter.

Mathilda said:
"Would your dog like to ride, Nikki? He might be as exhausted as your horse? What is his name?" Mathilda poked her head out off the door again.

"Uhh if he wants too. He's a ball of energy. I've never seen him actually sleep except when we slept in a secure shelter anyway." She let out a log low loud whistle and Shadow appeared at her feet. Pointing to the truck she says "IN" Shadow whines but she points and stamps her foot and he whimpers but jumps in and settles down on Mathildas lap.

She mouted the horse as the truck drove off. CIf it had been just her and if Clip Clop had been less tired he could have kept up at a full gallop. BUt now even without her gear, and wondering if she made a mistake she watched the truck roar off with her guardian angel and all her supplies. Pulling Ashley up behind her, she urged Clip Clop on into a fat walk and then a trot.

She was able to keep the MRAP in sight for a ling time, but as the shadows grew and a few curves came up, she lost sight of it. Feeling extremely nervous and vulnerable she brought Clip Clo[ to a full gallop despite his exhaustion. "Hold on Ashley" she called as he was running as fast as he could.

She saw an exit up ahead, and wasn't sure if she should take the exit or keep going, when gunshots rang out. She wheeled Clip Clop off the highway and across the grass field toward teh gun shots. In a few minutes the Mrap came into sight. No one was visible, so she pulled Clip Clop to a stop and sat there watching and listening. After a few moments, there were no sounds of life or afterlife, so she dismounted. "Stay here and guard the horse. I'm going to see what's up."

She pulled out her Tomahawk and her pistol and slowly approached the vehicle.

Mathilda

Looking at the closed office door, Mathilda wished Shadow was there with her. He had been a great comfort to her during the ride, his warm body heavy on her lap and his tongue licking her hand as she caressed him.

But when she climbed out the car, he had curled up on the seat she emptied. His eyes were open, his ears pointed, and it looked like he had decided he would guard the car.

She heard Shadow whimper and glancing in the truck she saw him laying on the seat. Knowing that ir there was any danger he would be in the thick of it, so she relaxed a bit and staye dby the truck, alert, waiting for the others to return. WHile waiting she waved at Ashley to join her by the truck.

Jack nodded to her for a moment, waiting for her to move to one side of the door. He counted to three before he kicked the door open. A thud was heard before the door swung most of the way open. A walker was pinned behind the door for a moment, one hand clawing around from behind the door. He used his weight to hold the door against the walker while letting Mathilda take the shot. He eased off the door, letting the body slump to the floor.

The back door was wide open, letting daylight flood the rest of the backroom. The backroom was trashed like the front, the office door open as well. It appeared a case of bottled water was peeking out beneath a pile of dirty clothes. The only other sign of life was a mother cat and two kittens hiding in some boxes on the shelves in the office.

He holstered his weapon as he turned to Mathilda with a smile.

"Not bad. You can keep hanging onto the gun if you want. I think there is an extra holster in the truck, along with some matches we can use to burn the bodies."

He laid a hand lightly on her shoulder and gave her light kiss on the forehead. He wasn't sure why he did it, but he pulled back when he heard Scott yell at them. He yelled back for a moment.

"Everything's fine. Just need some help burning bodies out back."

He picked up the dead walker, moving to the back door before looking back to see what Mathilda was doing.

Ashley got on the back of Nikki and her horse and they started making their way following the truck infront of them. But in a short time they lost sight of the truck but kept following the path it would of gone. Ashley looked around into the woods as they rode, she could make out the shapes of some walkers deep in the woods

After a bit it became dark quite quickly. Suddenly there were gunshots. Nikki quickly wheeled her horse in the direction on the gunshots and they arrived at the Mrap after a couple of minutes. Nikki dismounted and told Ashley to guard the horse. Ashley sat upon the horse and took out her one of her revolvers and took a quick look around.

She was Nikki wave at her to come over. Ashely got off the horse and walked to her with the horse following behind her. "Any issues?" She asked Nikki

burning bodies

As we cleared out the dead and piled them in the empty lot behind the station. Lighting the fire and watching the bodies burn. It seems burning these fuckers was a great idea. For there was no sign of any others in the air. Atleast for now. Steven mentioned the motel across the way. " I could use a good meal and bed to sleep in" as he heads over to the main office and grabs a key to one of the rooms. Due to no power he left the room's door open and laid down thinking he'd take a quick snooze and fell asleep.
