From today's Times...

"Diplomats said that only Spain and Bulgaria sided clearly with Britain and the US in the private session that followed the inspectors’ briefing. Almost all Council members acknowledged the need for greater Iraqi co-operation, but many stressed the need for more time.

Now that makes me feel a whole lot better...

But what about this:

“How much time? It could be several weeks. It could be a few months,” said Jean-Marc de la Sablière, the French Ambassador. “As long as the mechanism set out in Resolution 1441 is producing results. As long as there are prospects to reach our common goal of disarming Iraq peacefully, the inspections should continue.”

As the Iraqis are co-operating according to Blix and the Inspectors are allowed to go where they want without hindrance to carry out their inventory, what's the point in going to war?

As the French Ambassador said if results are being produced there's no need to invade (sorry George - liberate) Iraq...

He's certainly going to stoke up the fires. As for being scared, no I'm not because at this range Iraq can't personally harm me.

And even under the full weight of terrorist attacks fear doesn't come into it because you always think it's the other person who's going to be blown apart.

Mid-February

It looks now the attack will begin in earnest around Feb. 15. Militarily, Bush won't have enough forces in place in the Middle East until about then. Politically, the strong opposition (both internally and externally) to the war will probably force Bush to wait at least a couple of weeks.

It's no longer a question of if, merely when.

Actually, I hear that the State of the Union is going to be mostly domestic issues. Now if we could get through it without all the applause, I'd be really happy.

And Blix is due to pesent the next stage of his report on the 14th Feb...

So the 15th is a distinct possibility...

pp_man is Saddam Hussein, thats why he is so worried about an American lead invasion and why he has been fixating on it here for so long.

Italy, Poland, Romania, and Australia and most of the rest of Eastern Europe and the ex-Soviet Republics are also on our side pp_man.

Spain, the U.K., and Italy themsleves offset France and Germany military value wise.

With the exception of Australia you really are clutching at straws aren't you?

I take it you do know what paying lip service means?

Let's talk Italy

The Italian government, headed by Silvio Berlusconi, Italy's richest man and extremely corrupt to boot, supports the U.S. war drive-- but the Italian people do not, as the helf million who marched recently in Florence showed.

Same thing even in the UK-- Blair has his nose firmly up Bush's buttcheeks, but 80% of Brits oppose this war.

Says who? Italy is a regional power in Western Europe and Spain is close to being one.

Poland is a regional power in Eastern Europe and Romania is also one of the larger nations of that part of Europe.

Australia is actually weaker than Italy, Spain, Poland, Romania, and Bulgaria military-wise.

What difference does it make?

You know that the U.S. and Britain are going to do 98% of the heavy lifting. Any other non-mideast countries are basically there for moral support, such as it is.

The only other nations that will be doing any actual fighting will be whoever we can talk into it from arab countries so as to put an arab face on the invasion, as well as anti-Hussein contingents inside Iraq.

REDWAVWE and pp_man, two peas in a pod

pp_man and REDWAVE are terrorists.

One of the more interesting gems I garnered from an article referring to the Rand institute which is a corporate think-tank for strategic studies on military affairs and counter terrorism is that when anti-Americanism becomes in vogue Marxist terrorists piggy-back onto the anti-American sentiment for their own cause to benefit themselves even though they have little or nothing in common with the enemies of America other than sharing a common hatred to the West. Its just like the old adage goes, “the enemy of my enemy if my friend”. During the first Gulf War the Communist terrorists of Tupac Amaru in Peru bombed MacDonald’s and KFC restaurants supposedly in support of Iraq's war on the US (yeah right-like they gave a shit, they just wanted in on the action).

You two have something in common with those terrorists; you both like to piggyback causes you don't believe in just to get in on the Anti-Americanism of the day.

"Heavy lifting"

Heavy lifting-- interesting way of referring to the task of mass murder, terror bombing, and devastation of the ecosystem . . .

If I had wanted to say all that stupid shit I would have.

Shut up and go foment a revolution somewhere.

Well PC, Spain has some Leopard II tanks leased from Germany and Italy has some brand-new indigenous Ariete main battle tanks that look allot like the M-1 Abrams; so I bet they could kick a whole lot of Iraqi ass. so if we get into combat I would like to see how well the Leopard II and Ariets are when finally battle tested for the first time.

The Bristish Challenger-II's should also make things interesting for Special Republican Guard T-72M1 "Lion of Babylon" tanks.

Yes, I'm sure the Spanish army is going to lead the charge into Baghdad. Right.

Here is an interesting tid-bit of info.

There is a magazine called World Press Review that has newspaper articles from around the World on various International topics making the rounds and what was written in Havana's state-run communist daily newspaper was exactly what REDWAVE has written word for word!

REDWAVE is a communist propagandist.

Hey, p p man!

Now that Frimost has outed us, I'll light the fuse, and you throw the bomb, then we'll run away to the nearest pub, OK?

As Bug Bunny was wont to say, "What a maroon!"
;)

Speaking of heavy lifting...

I'm off to the gym, tomorrow will be interesting after the speech, and the following days of the President's 70% approval rating. The shrill posts will be enjoyable from those who hate a country that defends them without thanks.

Your grasp of the obvious is astounding!

O my God-- what an astounding new revelation from Frimost: I'm a commie! What was it, my tagline "Chief Commie Cocksucker," that tipped you off? Your deductive abilities and powers of observation are truly impressive.

Did I say anything about leading? No, where was that written?

In any case Spain only has 108 Leopard IIA4's on loan from Germany out of 219 they have ordered and Italy only has 105 Ariete C-1 tanks in service out of an order for 200 of them.

Tomorrow will also be interesting when the results of the Israeli election are known. You are more interested in what George has to say tonight than whether the Beast of Beirut has won another term.

Me. I'm interested in both because I, and many others, look upon a larger world stage than yourself...

:p
