The ultimate compliment?

I just remembered that I have received the ultimate compliment for somthing I wrote...Although it wasn't fiction...It was an article I wrote in response to the Littleton Colorado Shootings at Colombine Highschool....It had touched a cord with a lot of people and evidently got posted on a few websites, reprinted in newsletters and stuff...

On the one month anniversary of the shootings I got an email with a strange subject line...I almost dumped it but the email address caught my eye. I didn't recognize the fname but after the @ was something like UUC.org

so I openned it up and it turned out to be the pastor of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Littleton Colorado. He wrote that he'd been crying for the last half hour after someone had passed him my article...He was greatful that someone had written something other than a hate filled screed against Dylan and Clebold...that someone saw that they too were victims in their own right...

It was a powerful moving indication that I did something right...that something which was simply my feelings (even though they were contrary to the prevailing mood) had an impact on others...

Out of curiosity I "Alta-vista'd" (Pre google days) his name and it turned out he was all over the web, quoted in alll the papers and eveen a little .wav file of him being interviewed on ABC news. His shurch was right next door to the school...and he was the first "Civilian" to arrive at the school and try to help people while the bullets were still flying.....

To get a simple, yet eloquent email from a "hero" was vindication enough...

if anyones interested here are the links to the articles....(I was asked to write a follow up on the one year anniversary of Colombine)

just stumbled across one of my favourite feedbacks...sweet, simple, sincere.

I absolutely love your work, especially the audio. Each time I hear you or read
you I think, God, I hope she keeps doing this. I guess everyone's sense of
what's erotic is tuned to a certain pitch, and I am so grateful to find someone
that is wired to the same pitch as I. The hunger and the humor...and the power
and the surrender, it's like your my favorite song on the radio. Thanks for
sharing.

ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

mcopado, that is truly wonderful;. No compliment I've ever received has been as high as that, or as well deserved.
And Asian Princess, too, that is lovely!

I have recently gotten praise from someone who's edited me- someone I admire very much. A simple "Damn, that's really good" made me smile till my face hurt :)

Oh, I have one or two of those too;
this is one of the many bore girl on girl story i have ever read. one the female model you wrote had a boyish build why? why do you writers insit all your female characters look like boys? is there some rule that your women characters have to be flat chested or look like a boy? your story read like a diary more than a story. if i want to be put to sleep i'll print out this story. i was half why threw it and was already nooding off and it was only threepm.
That one always makes me happy when I read it, it really does!

BTW Stella, I have luked on some of the roleplay threads that you are on...I think you too are amazing, have a great "turn of phrase" and are wicked, wicked writer..... :D (I like wicked)

*nods soberly*

Mmm, I see your concern, Stella. When one receives negative feedback from a writer of that caliber ... someone with a dazzling intellect and a breathtaking command of the language ... it certainly hits home. ;)

The best compliment I ever got was from a couple who told me they check my profile now and then to see if I've written something new.

That made me all warm inside.

Reason to smile today:

we've all got our favourite authors...especially those who break new ground and are consistently good especially in the categories that we also post in. Mine is sxy_kitten. She isn't around any more :( :( but today i read a comment she'd just left on a story of mine that has a special place in my heart...and even if it had been a negative comment, with contructive feedback i would have cherished it forever, but as it was...she wrote the sweetest words. True compliments coming from one I respect so much.

I think i said it once before...its all about who the compliment comes from.

Although I haven't received any compliments from my fiction, I have received some really touching ones from my poetry. Somebody told me recently that it inspired them and I was quite moved by that, since it was the first time that someone had ever said that to me.

Dracorex hogwartsia

What?

Dracorex hogwartsia is the name given to a newly discovered dinosaur and is named after J K Rowling's Harry Potter stories.

Having a newly discovered dinosaur after your fiction is a compliment hard to beat.

Draco = Dragon; rex = king; hogwartsia = after Hogwarts school.

It would certainly be a compliment to have a dinosaur named after me. :D Just think: an assembled skeleton of the famous boxlickerus tongueus. Actually, that would be rather ridiculous. I would take it as an even greater compliment if a new edition of "The Joy of Sex" or similar book were to include a new sex position called "The Boxlicker" :p That is pretty unlikely too.

Actually, the greatest compliment I am ever likely to get would be from a woman telling me how much she likes to get herself off while reading one of my stories.

the best compliment

i ever got was when someone mistook me from behind for one of my best friends who is not only an amazing poet, not only a mosaic artist, but also one of the sexiest women on the planet in my opinion. i almost cried when this dude called me her name and then looked slightly startled when i turned around. i beamed all day. =D

Oh but here at Lit I'd guess my best compliment was when vampiredust and rainman called me a poet to watch or something. though they may have just been referring to my ampics thread, who knows? ;-D

Whilst this kitten no longer posts, she still needs the pleasure of hearing you in her ears Princess, so nice to see you are still here and giving pleasure to so many.

Thank you for your sweet quote above, the comment I left was both sincere and true, you are exceptional, you gorgeous thing you !

I may not be around much but I do stick my head around the door and wave sometimes.

Lots of Love.........Kitten xxx

There are a few different ones for me. Since my stories aren't as sexual as some other authors, I usually love hearing how they affected people emotionally. Hero's Romance was about a man saving a woman from an attack, then falling for her sister (who had a secret of her own). I received a number of emails & comments from women who identified with the characters and appreciated the sensitive way I handled the situation. Some even said that it affected them personally. That gave me chills.

Getting my first high compliment from an author off of my favorite list was humbling as well.
