The Trucker and the Hitchiker

The journey back to Amy's house, to her old house she told herself, seemed to take forever. They didn't talk much, only turn here, make a left here and so on. When the finally pulled in the driveway Amy felt butterflies in her stomach and her lack of underwear made her feel suddenly naked. Biting her lips she aseed Mac, "Promise you will wait here for me?"

"Nothin' doin babe. If something bad is in there better I'm there to help you. Don't worry, no matter how bad it is I'm here with you. Let's go git yer shit" He jumps out and quickly walks around the truck and opens her door, offering his hand to help her down.

With teary eyes Amy takes Macs hand and steps out of the truck. They approach the trailer and the steps. Her legs feel like rubber as they climb the steps. Her hands shake as she fumbled for her keys and she drops them. She quickly drops down to retrieve them. "I'm sorry. I'm sorry."

Without a word he gently takes the keys from her and opens the door. Glancing in to make sure the trailer is empty, he gestures to Amy to enter. As she gors into the dark hole, Mac turns around and looks down the only road in. Grateful and fearful of the dirt road. Grateful because he will have ample warning of any vehicle appriaching, fearful because it could take hours for his dust to settle and that would allow someone to follow him.

Turning from the road he enters the trailer...

Thankful that Bill wasn't around, she steps inside. Barely in she stops and takes a deep breath. The string hand on her shoulder giving her strength. "Ok, give me like 5 minutes." She pays his hand and moves down the hallway. Returning with a box that she sets on the small dining table. Next she moves into the kitchen, bringing out some paper towels and a set of dishes. "My Momma gave me these." She explains. Then she sets to collect small figurines from various shelves and setting them on the table. Then she heads down the hallway to the back bedroom. There she remains a while. Tears flowing.

As she gathers her lifes treasures, Mac goes back out side and grabs a bunch of junkmail ads from teh trash and goes back in a carefully starts to wrap the more fragile items, making a mental note to stop and get some bubble wrap when they got out of this backwater hovel.

After several minutes he had everything wrapped, and he waited for AMy to reappear. When she didn't, he walked down the hall to the room she entered. He saw her standing there silently crying. Stepping up behind her, he pulls her into him, and kisses the top of her head. He just holds her letting her cry.

Amy loves the large mans touch. He says little, but at the same time it's more than Billy ever said to her. She is looking at a rather simple dress, laid on her bed. "My granny made this for me." Amy swells in pride, "I know it's not high fashion, but my Granny loved me and I love her. She made it for my junior Prom. Lost my...." She takes a deep breath. "OK, lover. I'm ready to pack up and never come back."

"I bet you looked beautiful in that dress." He says as he picks up the boxes he loaded with her precious few belongings. Heading out to the truck, he puts her boxes in the backseat and slams the soor shut. Looking around one more time he heads back in to make sure they have everything and then he can get her on the road to a better life.

Amy let's out a long sigh. "So glad that I have my few things and don't have to ever come back. You are my super hero." She leans over and pecks his cheek and then rubs his leg. "I will never be able to repay you."

Taking both her hands in his, he looks into Amys eyes. "Aww shucks, I ain't no hero. Just a regualr Joe helping someone who needs a hand. An' darlin' I don''t need no repayment. One day you'll meet someone you can help. Help them."

"Mac, you are the best simply to best." Amy says then let's out a sigh of happiness. A few moments later she smiles and him. "Think you could turn this poor girl into a truck driving woman?", she says in her sexiest voice and rubs higher on his leg. "Mister, I'm willing to learn anything you want to teach me."

SMiling at her he says "I can turn you into a gear jammin', freight shakin, bulldog drivin' beaver. I mean you proved you know how to handle a stick."

He leans down and kisses her and grabs her ass. All it will cost you is a few weeks of your time, and a bit more of that body of yours, if you're willing."

Looking out thew window his brow furrows in worry. "I think it's time to go Amy! he says all joking gone. His body tenses and His tone is firm brooking no argument. Grabbing Amy by the hand, he heads for the door at a fast pace.

As they exit the trailer, he points to a cloud of dust in the distance. "Any other way out of here?" he asks worried that Billy and Tony were on their way to the trailer.

Amy sees the lights too. "Yeah, turn around and head to the back of the park. There is an old gravel path. We can hit to side road from there. Go slower, make it look like we live in one of the back houses." She knows that they have to move quickly but if they tear out of here they will be noticed even more. "He will most likely think we had dropped by to see him."

Mac nods, not wasting time or breath speaking. He jumps in the truck. "Just in case, Sparky keeps an old navy .45 in the glove box. I don't want to use it, but..." his voice fades as the truck fails to start.

"FUCK!" he says "Damn antique." Turning the key again the motor whines but doesn't catch. "Com'on you beautiful piece of iron. make Uncle Mac proud, show these losers what an all American beauty like you can do." Turning the key again the truck roars to life.

"Now you know why machines are referred to as she. A little bit of flattery from the right guy and they get all turned on." He says smiling at Amy.

As he shifts into first, he looks over his shoulder and he can see two figures in a car as they round the last curve before the trailer.

"I guess slipping away is out of the question now." He says as the truck lurches forward. Keeping tight control of the truck and using the dirt road to his advantage, Mac drifts on every turn kicking up a lot of dust trying to use it as a smoke screen to hide his maneuvers, hoping they would miss a turn allowing him to get away.

Amy kept a look out the back window, but the dust did not give her much of a view.

Billy and Tony both see the truck in front of the trailer. Neither recognizes it. Tony chirps up, "Looks like the old POS has engine troubles."

Billy is not convinced. "Right in front of my trailer? And then they head the opposite direction?" He passes his place up and begins to follow. "Fuck, what the hell, something is up, Tony."

Amy Directs Mac to take a right, then pass a street before taking a left. "He will think we are heading to the other ring road t get out, but we will circle back and go the way we were going, out the back way." There is excitement in her voice.

Billy immediately says to Tony, "I bet the Bastard is looping around to go out on Bayside. Fuck this!" He slams on the brakes and turns quickly around. "We'll cut the Mother Fucker off at the pass."

When the street they are on dead ends, Amy says. "Turn left here. Right takes us back out the front way but maybe Tony is waiting for us, who knows?" She looks right, like she can see around the trailers and the small curve

!

"Does he Billy or Tony have a gun?" he asks being very serious and dropping is uneducated southern boy persona. Without waiting for an answer he slows the truck and opens the glove box. "Grab the wheel for a sec," he tells her as he takes out the Colt M1911A1 from the glvoebox.

Once Amy has the wheel he checks to make sure it's loaded and a round is chambered. Putting on the thumb safety, he tucks the gun into the back of his pants.

Taking the wheel back he sees that the road is blocked, and there is no way to get around the car that's in his path.

"Get down and stay down. I'm going to try and play it off like I was just having fun on a dirt road with a buddys this antique had a bad truck and stopped to take a wiz. If they don't see you that might work. If not..." he shrugs as he slows the truck to a stop several yards from the two men.

Amy crawled to the floor of the passenger seat, hoping she wasn't said. She could not hear records, but only the voices...

Billy asked the stranger, "What the fuck is your problem?"

But Tony, eyeing the truck. "Is that an 80 or 79?" He looks at Mac and back to the truck. "You gotta ease up on that clutch, dude." He looks at Billy, who still seems kissed. And shrugs.

Sensing that Tony was the more reasonable of the two, Mac directs his comments to him ignoring Billy. "It's a 79. A buddy lent it to me, so I could go off roading. I hit something and it started making a strange sound. I stopped to see what was going on and as I started to drive again, you started chasing me. WHy?"

Ke kept his eyes on Billy since he was so agitated, but hoped his story was plausable enough to keep them from doing anything stupid.

Laughing Tony replies, "Cause he is a paranoid little fuck."

Billy tries to laugh it off, but it's forced. "Yeah, whatever." He pauses. "But what's a guy to think when comes home and sees some......some truck tear assing away?"

Tony replies, "That he had engine trouble like I said. Cone on, let's go party." Looking at Mac, "Wanna join us?"

"THanks, sounds great," he says looking at his watch, "but I need to get this truck back to my buddy and get back on the road. Take care guys." He says giving them a friendly smile and wave.

He climbs into the pickup, "stay down. I think things are cool. If so we'll be well gone before they realize that I was helping you get your shit. If not...well that's why I got the .45."

He starts the truck and eases it forward hoping to see the car move out of his way so he can head on down the road.

Tony hits Billy on the shoulder. "Come on, let's go get high and call some bitches over." Reluctantly Billy heads for his car, he pauses by the door and stares back, thinking.

Mac watches as Billy stares at him, his brow furrowed in thought. Mac puts on a big goofy grin and waves at Billy trying to seem harmless, as he eases the truck forward.

"Tony is buying it, Billy is still suspicious." Mac whispers to Amy without moving his lips. "Is this guy smarter than he looks?"

Amy barely Whispers, "Yes."

Tony knock on the roof of Billy's Mustang, "Come on, let's go." He waves to Mac as Billy turns to look at him. Billy doesn't move an inch more. Then he slowly reaches for his door.

Mac continyes to smile but gestures to his watch to indicate he is in a hurry. and raises his hands asking if they will move out of his way. When he lowers his hands he touches Amy on the knee. "Don't worry love, no matter what you will be at your moms soon."

He revs the engine still waiting for the mustang to get out of his way.

Finally Billy gets in and moves out of the way. He yells, "see you soon." and waves.

Amy, feeling they are perhaps out of danger begins to shake. "let me know when we are away." she whispers.
