The Thomas Crowne Affair…

Yes, I know…old news…but I watched it again, I do every few years.

Pierce Brosnan, Renee Russo, and a cameo with Celeste Holme…..

Perhaps one of the most sophisticated, worldly, well written films ever…I would have to think hard to final its equal.

For my liberal antagonists, I thought of you, in the male/female encounter between the two principals.

For those who hate the ‘filthy rich’, I thought of you…and the world they inhabited and flourished in.

But mainly, I admired the writer of the plot, theme, and dialogue; and each time I view it, I learn a little more about subtlety and innuendo, presuppositions.

I am a great admirer of French Impressionism, so of course, the film was a joy to me, artistically. I have prints of Monet, Manet, Turner and Cassatt, hanging everywhere and in my mind, always…

I also played on a radio program, the theme song of the film, ‘The Windmills of the/your mind’ many times….and enjoyed the first version of the film with Steve McQueen, for you film buffs…

The food, the wines, the art, the luxury of the very wealthy…I can see why you hate them.

But I have had the pleasure of visiting Monaco and the French and Italian Riviera, and the very same Caribbean Island shown in the film…and several others; and the museums in New York City and in London and in Paris…where the original paintings were on display.

Back to the film, as it is still in progress, but I was inspired to share the thoughts….Affair, yes…a love affair, also…about trust…and competition and excellence and also about the basic nature of the male and the female…exemplified and epitomized to an amazingly sophisticated level.

Not that it matters…

Amicus…

(edited to add...even the Brubeck like, Piano block chords....near the end of the film, in the museum scenes....)

(edited again to add the Miles Davis style trumpet near the end...with maybe a little Dizzy Gillespie touch...before Marsalis, I think...)

Okay, ami.

Give back your conservative card.

The guy is a thief... making you pro-crime.

Or is it just okay if rich, charming guys do the stealing?

Sincerely,
ElSol

Awww...C'mon guys, get over your fucking politics enough to consider art and literature aside from your left wing shit.

Then don't start threads with stuff like this.

Anyway, I dig the film. It's old shool genuine movie making at it's best. Devaststingly charming, like it's protagonists.

Prefer the Steve McQueen original to the glossy Brosman affair, it seems somehow more egalitarian.

Admit it Amicus, you're secretly attracted to strong women like the character portrayed by Renee Russo. Tell me you wouldn't want her to tie you up and teach you how to be a good boy.

I liked the film as well, Ami. But mostly because Brosnan is such a charmer. I think that's why I like James Bond films, too. Unrealistic charm. :)
