Did I miss something? .........a thread, maybe?

I am noticing the balking at thermometer use spreading like an epidemic, as if people had a clandestine meeting that I wasn't invited to.

I just got my third e-mail from a distressed new poet who thought that my '50' thermometer, which I use on review days to inform people they are mentioned in the reviews, would decrease the readership of her poem, or meant I didn't like it, or that it would effect the number and quality of her votes, or whatever.

Those of us who have been writing here for a while know how useless it is, but for the new poets, there are all the fifties, bright red and standing out like half-erections.

We had a discussion about encouraging the new poets, most of whom don't know how to get to the threads, or even know they exist.

My curiosity got the best of me, even as I brought my children in here from the beach for 15 minutes for a sandwich and bathroom detail.

I'd just like to know what happened at the powwow I missed. ;)

:rose: :rose: .......and I love the Jersey shore!

i quit using it because i was forgetting to use it sometimes anyhow, so it made it look like i wasn't thinking much of poetry i thought top rate.

if i like a poem, if i have the time, i leave a comment that shows more then the thermometer ever would anyhow.

i just find it easier not to use it and still get it across to the poet that i enjoyed what they offered me to read.

just my take on it is all.

I can't tell you anything much since I don't want to get into trouble--you know, you're not part of the thermometer club. If they catch me on this thread, then I'm out, and I've already paid my non refundable dues.

*Thermometers are for assholes, not poetry.

I've felt it was redundant for ages and used to just give a full thermometer for all my comments, mainly because, rightly or wrongly, I only commented on poems I felt were worth 4-5 points.

Now I'm tending to see worthy poems that aren't quite up to snuff but have great potential. I'm uncomfortable using an apparently judgemental device that has no bearing on the points I've given the work.

just my tuppence-worth.

(Tara - thanks for your comment on Birdland - and you're right, the apostrophe is redundant. I re-jigged that line and neglected to remove it. *sigh*)

When I first began to vote on erotic stories, I thought the vote was to indicate quality and the thermometer was meant to rate the heat - how hot did it make me? When I started voting on non-erotic poetry, the therm served no porpoise.
Since I only vote on things I feel are worth a 4 or 5, I still use the therm. So sue me. Or spank me. Please.

My thermometer is digital, and the battery ran out.

That's my story, and I'm sticking to it.:p

I guess that says alot.
I use 'em, what does she mean by that?

If you look real close, in the lace is spelled "insert here" "but it better be 100"

Still love your poetry, still be giving a 100 (most of the time)

The only reason you don't like thermometers is because most of your stuff deserves better than 100.
I use 'em, I think I just slapped two or three on you - just so you don't misunderstand my comments!
-asshole 1201
besides, nobody uses rectal thermometers anymore, do they?
