This morning was rather interesting before getting off of work. We had a staff meeting with psych doc and reviewed the status of getting some of our consumers transferred.
We came to one consumer and the doc told me I needed to keep an eye on them when they went outside. I nodded and said no problem. I keep an eye on eyeone.
She grinned and said "No, he suffers from Dodaphylia." This was a diagnosis that was totally new to me. So I had to ask what it meant.
The doc states " He loves trees." After 13 hrs of work and no sleep all night I was stupid and said "Kewl, someone who likes the outdoors." She just cracked up. "No, he REALLY LOVES TREES!"
At that time it sank in. Now what do I do if the man is outside and LOVING TREES? Point to a knothole? Check for bees? Or stand there and explain to him that he's LOVING a tree and that is not proper.
In all my years of nursing, I've never heard of anything like this. I guess it goes to show us, we NEVER SEE IT ALL.
Kinda gives a new meaning to Arbor Day.
