I love all the films Brit TV shows on Bank Holidays.

We've sat through Space Cadets, Dr. Doolittle (the original), Crocodile Dundee, and now the piece de resistance.......THE SOUND OF MUSIC.

Yayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

THE perfect film for a damp, dreary afternoon, and as an accompaniment to the tedium of packing. What other film does almost every person know every song off by heart, and the whole script, word for word ??

Thank you BBC.

That's a nice one, isn't it? A standard.

Serious plot, but kept very light-hearted so it doesn't upset young kids.

And so singable.

I knew there were people out there somewhere who liked that movie. Sorry, but not me. http://bestsmileys.com/puking/1.gif

Aw, now.

Yes, it's been done over and over. And in fact, in music circles (I was in the cast in high school and have directed a production since) we call it "The Sound of Mucus."

It's sweet and corny and overdone. But it's still quality, even if it isn't to everyone's taste.

*grudgingly*

Well, it can't be as hideous as I think, if you and Mats like it. I guess.

*grump*

You are an adorable grump.

Dykes drinking beer with the foam afloat heard

Curmudgeonettes are not supposed to be adorable. :p
Then stop using words like "curmudgeonettes", dammit. It makes me want to buy you fluffy stuffed animals and candy.

And Mat, the Sound of music is one of my all time fav's too.

I'm envious.

Phantom - I fall in love all over again every time I see it.

Past, the point of no return, no backward glances . . .

*sigh*

our games of make-believe are at an end! Past all thought of if or when. No use resisting... abandon thought and let the dream descend! What raging fire shall flood the soul? What rich desires unlock its door? What sweet seductions lie before us?

Past the point of no return. The final threshold... what warm unspoken secrets will we learn? Beyond the point of no... return...

I feel the same way as you - this show feeds me soul - the themes, the music, the words - all of it.

Try some and see what happens.

It doesn't get better than singing nuns.

She climbs a tree and scrapes her knee
Her dress has got a tear
She waltzes on her way to Mass
And whistles on the stair
And underneath her wimple
She has curlers in her hair
I even heard her singing in the abbey

She's always late for chapel
But her penitence is real
She's always late for everything
Except for every meal
I hate to have to say it
But I very firmly feel
Maria's not an asset to the abbey

I'd like to say a word in her behalf
Maria makes me laugh

How do you solve a problem like Maria?
How do you catch a cloud and pin it down?
How do you find a word that means Maria?
A flibbertijibbet! A will-o'-the wisp! A clown!

Many a thing you know you'd like to tell her
Many a thing she ought to understand
But how do you make her stay
And listen to all you say
How do you keep a wave upon the sand

Oh, how do you solve a problem like Maria?
How do you hold a moonbeam in your hand?

When I'm with her I'm confused
Out of focus and bemused
And I never know exactly where I am
Unpredictable as weather
She's as flighty as a feather
She's a darling! She's a demon! She's a lamb!

She'd outpester any pest
Drive a hornet from its nest
She could throw a whirling dervish out of whirl
She is gentle! She is wild!
She's a riddle! She's a child!
She's a headache! She's an angel!
She's a girl!

How do you solve a problem like Maria?
How do you catch a cloud and pin it down?
How do you find a word that means Maria?
A flibbertijibbet! A will-o'-the wisp! A clown!

Many a thing you know you'd like to tell her
Many a thing she ought to understand
But how do you make her stay
And listen to all you say
How do you keep a wave upon the sand

Oh, how do you solve a problem like Maria?
How do you hold a moonbeam in your hand?

It was the first film I ever went back to the theatre to see twice on consecutive days.

PS - Just showed the lyrics/script to the Goosebird song to the gosling. She loved it, laughed long and loud. I just wish there was a way we could all perform it. It would be an absolute hoot!!!
