I have been enjoying Sir Patrick Stewart reading a Sonnet a Day
https://twitter.com/SirPatStew
and now the novel I am reading features a character writing sonnets for his illicit lover...
so I of course think "there must be a Story Idea there".
I think a sonnet contest might be a useful frame for a story. I came up with a few variants:
~ is it high school seniors, competing to see whose poem is read at grad? This it turn leads to possibilities of student/teacher; two nerds finding lust; the nerd revealing lust for the popular kid...
~ university English class, competing for grades
~ an adult night school writing contest
~ a poetry night at the local watering hole or book store
~ the high school reunion, an old rivalry leads to a "poem off" between two characters- the one who married the other's true love.
Do you have other suggestions?
