It was down to 25 degrees outside and with the wind chill factor it had to be close to 0 if not colder. She didn’t know how long she had been laying in the snowy ditch, but when she woke, she was freezing. The only thing she had on was a white lacy slip and nothing else. Her body ached, apparently having been beaten up and her toes were starting to turn color from the wet cold snow.

She managed to crawl out of the ditch, and she hurt every inch she moved.
She knew in order to survive she needed somewhere to go, and since she couldn’t remember where home was, she managed to get up and practically hobble down the desolate road.

She could tell she was in farm country as there were many homes spread very far apart and much land between them. She only saw one porch light on and that was quite a distance, but she needed to get warm somewhere, anywhere. Her thick blonde curls already felt frozen to her head, even her hands were beginning to burn from possible frost bite. Her deep blue eyes showed signs of swelling from whatever happened. She could not remember that either.

In fact, she couldn’t for the life of her remember who she was or what had happened to her. All she really knew was to find some place to get warm before she passed out in the snow, never to wake again. It wouldn’t take her long either as she was extremely petite, although had just the right amount of curves in her body that clearly stood out as she approached the front door, knocking several times. She hoped and prayed someone would answer the door and after several knocks, finally a man answered and just starred at her for several minutes.

I’m sorry to bother you, but it seems something has happened to me and I found myself in that ditch over there looking like this. Would you mind if I come in and warm up a bit?” She asked the stranger.

Jacob Anderson 34 years old 6’4 230 pounds
Brown hair with full beard and mustache. Brown eyes.

He was a construction worker by trade. He normally took 3 months of layoff collecting unemployment every year. In that time he did some snow removal work for a few private customers. He also did a some yard work including mowing for them as well on weekends.

It was down to 25 degrees outside and with the wind chill factor it had to be close to 0 if not colder. His thoughts around the fireplace were of his life. He had been engaged twice and even married for 2 years. She left him without much reason and he never saw her again. That was nearly 10 years ago. He knew he was living a lonely life with 3 dogs out in the middle of nowhere. He enjoyed that part but the lonely cold nights not so much.

A knock was heard at his door. His dogs barked and he calmed them down. He had guns all over the house…so no worry as to who it may be. But why would someone be out on a night like this.

He opened the door felt like he was in a movie or something. A pretty blond hair and blue eyed girl not properly dressed for this weather.

“I’m sorry to bother you, but it seems something has happened to me and I found myself in that ditch over there looking like this. Would you mind if I come in and warm up a bit?” She asked the stranger.

He took her arm and hurried her inside. He got her next to the fire place.
“Maam you aren’t dressed for this weather. Get next to the fireplace. I got some water boiling on the stove for hot chocolate but whatever your preference is. I am worried you got some frost bite or sick from the cold.” he said a bit frantic.

“Umm…I will fetch some blankets. You best get those wet clothes off and make sure you ain’t got frost bite.” he added handing her three big blankets.

“I reckon it is dumb to ask but how did you come to be out there again?” He asks as he prepares a couple of big mugs of hot chocolate.

“My name is Jacob by the way. Excuse my manners.” He adds smiling.

“Umm…I will fetch some blankets. You best get those wet clothes off and make sure you ain’t got frost bite.”

It felt so nice and warm by the fire she didn’t even want to move, but when he said she needed to get her wet clothes off and brought her some blankets, she trembled for several minutes. When he wasn’t looking, she quickly took off her wet slip thin slip the only thing she had on, and dropped it to the floor, quickly covering herself with a blanket. She picked up the slip and set down on the hearth around the fireplace.

“Thank you for all your kindness, I don’t think I have frost bite, everything seems to be warming up much better.” she said, sitting on the stoop of the fireplace. The warm heat from the fire just couldn’t get her to warm enough, besides the aching her body was doing.

“I reckon it is dumb to ask but how did you come to be out there again?”

“That’s not a dumb question considering my answer, I have no idea how I got there, what happened, and unfortunately something had to have happened considering I hurt every where, bruises are starting to come up and my face feels swollen. What’s even stranger is, whatever did happen, I can’t remember, not to mention I don’t even know who me is, like my name, where is my home. Seems someone or several did what they did and then dropped me off in some ditch thinking I would die there.” She sighed heavily, not even able to comprehend even in her own mind what had happened.

“My name is Jacob by the way. Excuse my manners.”

“Its so very nice to meet you Jacob, I wish I could remember my name to tell you. You could call me Snow perhaps for now until hopefully my memory will come back soon. When I was walking, the way the wind was blowing and the temperature dropping like it has been, I hope you have extra supplies because I do believe we are in for one heck of a snow storm. I don’t know exactly how I know, but I do. Are you pretty stacked up with wood an food for a bit?”

I shivered a bit and turned towards the fire again, almost wanting to jump into it to warm me up. Jacob seemed to be a very nice man and she was very grateful for his help. She could already smell him brewing the hot chocolate and then heard her stomach growling as well.

“My name is Jacob by the way. Excuse my manners.” He said and grabbed a heavy bathrobe and handed to her.

“Just the same…I would like to see your feet and hands…not perving but want to make sure you are good from frost bite miss. Anyways you are safe here. No one is going to get to you without getting acquainted with my 12 gauge shotgun.” He adds smiling.

He smiled. He grabbed his first aid kit in the form of a big suit case. He bent down to address her bruises.
“Look at where you are at. I have a backup generator if my power goes out and even a supply of fuel for a good 3 weeks. My food and water supply is also 3 to 4 weeks along with firewood. I am not a weird survivalist…just understand where I live. This is not new to me. I reckon we will be stuck here for a good week.” he stated.

“I am certified in first aid…again just want to help not perv on you. Your bruises need addressing.” He added.

He grinned as he heard her stomach growling.
“I was about ready to whip up some beef stew with veggies. I reckon I don’t need to ask if you would like some with a baked potato.” He said offering.

“Snow white…huh.” He added laughing softly.

“I was about ready to whip up some beef stew with veggies. I reckon I don’t need to ask if you would like some with a baked potato.”

“That sounds delicious, my stomach is growling like a big ole bear, and I don’t remember the last time I even ate.”

The touch of his fingers against her skin were warm and non threatening and he when he told her about the shotgun, he definitely made her feel safe. Although she wished she knew safe from what.

“Snow white…huh.”

“Guess that does sound kind of ridiculous, it was the first thing that popped into my head, who knows maybe the 7 dwarfs will rescue me…” they both laughed, but there was pain on her face when she laughed too hard. Most likely from the bruises she had.

“You do sound like you have quite a supply for the next several weeks and with a wood fireplace and backup generator, sounds like we should be okay. Do you happen to have a radio or TV that might be working, maybe they can tell us about the storm. Heck, maybe they could say something on there about me. Surely if I had family or something I would have been reported missing.”

She still sat curled in the blanket by the fire, because it was warm, and she wasn’t too sure how steady on her feet she would be just yet.

“How about calling me Ivy, its simple and I really don’t have clue what else you can call me, unless you do.”

“That sounds delicious, my stomach is growling like a big ole bear, and I don’t remember the last time I even ate.”

“Its my great grandmother’s recipe.” He said proudly.

“Snow white…huh.”

“Guess that does sound kind of ridiculous, it was the first thing that popped into my head, who knows maybe the 7 dwarfs will rescue me…”

“Take it easy deary. You are pretty bruised up. I have Tylenol and Alieve if you would like to take a few painkillers.” He states as he sees her in a bit of discomfort.

“My TV reception is fine during clear weather but with storms like this nothing. My radio is also sketchy but we can try.” He replies.

He walks over as he sees her looking like she wants to move.
“No no no….wait for me to help you snow white…I don’t need to falling on this hard floor.” He says with a smile. He hands her a big mug of hot cocoa and studies that she is strong enough to hold it.

“How about calling me Ivy, its simple and I really don’t have clue what else you can call me, unless you do.”

“Well…it is like a fairy tale to have such pretty young lady keep me company. This storm could be a week maybe week and half. I like Snow White or Snowy. Ivey was villain in that Batman series I recall, you aren’t a villain.” He states.

Once the beef stew with vegetables was ready he came back over. He helps her up and makes sure she can walk some as he puts his arm around her waist. He guides her to the wooden kitchen table. He sits her down. He serves both of them the big bowl of soup and a baked potato with sour cream and butter on he side.
“Anything else I can fetch you Snowy?” He asks smiling.

When I tried to move, I couldn’t believe how sore and painful it was to do even the simplest task.

“No no no….wait for me to help you snow white…I don’t need to falling on this hard floor.”

“You really could call me something else,” she giggled at the name once again and the first time she had been able to laugh at any of her ordeal.

“Well…it is like a fairy tale to have such pretty young lady keep me company. This storm could be a week maybe week and half. I like Snow White or Snowy. Ivey was villain in that Batman series I recall, you aren’t a villain.”

“Well I sure hope I’m not a villain, if I were, I must have been bad at it to end up like this.” she laughed softly.

She was glad for his assistance to the kitchen table as she really wasn’t sure if she would have made it on her own. As he set everything on the table it all smelled so delicious, she could barely wait to taste it.

“Anything else I can fetch you Snowy?”

“No thank you, you’ve been far to generous already.” she says giggling a bit at the being called Snowy.

“Mmmmm, this is delicious,” she said after taking her first bite. “You’re grandmother had a great recipe.”

They ate in silence for a bit as she was too hungry to even talk. As the hunger pains started easing up, she also started feeling a bit better.

“So Jacob, since I can’t tell you much about me, what about telling me a little bit about yourself. What made you decide to come way out here with not much around? Although it is a very beautiful place and you do have a lovely home from what I have seen so far.”

“No thank you, you’ve been far to generous already.” she says giggling a bit at the being called Snowy.

“Anything you need…do not hesitate. You are my very special guest Snowy.” He replied.

“Mmmmm, this is delicious,” she said after taking her first bite. “You’re grandmother had a great recipe.”

“Yes she was quite a cook. I inherited a lot of recipes that have come in handy out here.” He replied.

They ate in silence for a bit then he got up and fed the three dogs. They were well mannered up to that point.

“I am sorry I neglected my babies.” He said kissing the top of each’s head.

“So Jacob, since I can’t tell you much about me, what about telling me a little bit about yourself. What made you decide to come way out here with not much around? Although it is a very beautiful place and you do have a lovely home from what I have seen so far.”

“I can’t think in the city. I always enjoyed camping and the outdoors. I was even an Eagle Scout. I know how to fish and hunt pretty well. The rat pack over there can run free and wild at times. So, it was an easy decision after…” He said and took a deep breath.

He fought a smile.
“Umm look we all have experiences that are not so good. Mine was about 10 years ago…I am cool but it was the clincher to purchase this property and live here isolated. Not saying I don’t like company but it was a rough patch back then.” He added and sat back down with her.

He took a gulp of his hot drink.
"I was told to not give up hope for certain things...I will not give up who I truly am ever again if it even means I should be alone with my little rat pack." He states and looks over at his three dogs.

“They are well mannered dogs, I can see and if I’m not mistaken, I’m pretty sure I like dogs.” she said, trying to recall her life again. “Besides, such friendly and loveable dogs like these, who could not like dogs.” she laughed softly.

She took another swallow of her hot chocolate and continued to take several more bites of her food.

“From the sound of it, it must have been pretty bad to make such a drastic, I’m guessing, change in your life.” she looked at him with empathy. “Would you mind if I asked what happened?” she asked pensively, and to break the tension that had seemed to penetrate the air she added lightly, “I can’t tell anyone if that’s what you’re worried about, the only person I know right now is you.”

She wasn’t sure if she was pushing him or what, but she was actually very interested in what had happened.

“I’m a very good listener…” she said softly and sipped her cocoa.

“They are well mannered dogs, I can see and if I’m not mistaken, I’m pretty sure I like dogs.” she said, “Besides, such friendly and loveable dogs like these, who could not like dogs.” she laughed softly.

“Well they are good judges of character…and see that I am more than cool with you.” He said smiling.

He finished up his large plate of food then drank the last of his mug of cocoa.

“From the sound of it, it must have been pretty bad to make such a drastic, I’m guessing, change in your life.” she looked at him with empathy. “Would you mind if I asked what happened?” she asked, he looked at her as she approaching a bit of a sensitive subject.

“I can’t tell anyone if that’s what you’re worried about, the only person I know right now is you.”

“I suppose that’s true. It not really like it’s a secret.” He replied.

“I’m a very good listener…” she said softly and sipped her cocoa.

“I always liked the woods and open country so this isn’t as drastic as you think. Although after a few engagements courting young ladies then I got married. We lived in the city…not to my complete liking but I was happy to have someone to come home to. I was hoping to start a family.” He said as he refilled his mug and took a big gulp.

“I came home one night and she was packing. She said she wasn’t happy and needed to leave. I pleaded and begged then promised to do anything and she walked out. I never saw her again. I received papers to finalize the divorce a month later. Its nearly been 10 years. I reckon…maybe I wasn’t cut out to be married and that family stuff. I tried so hard when I was a bit younger but I am fine with my family right here. Not that I don’t appreciate the company.” He added with a somber tone and face before he forces a smile.

“Well I am sorry things worked out for you like that,” she replied, and then put her hand out touching his, “You must have been too good for her, because what I see is a very caring and loving man here. One who has a big heart and enough compassion to let a stranger come into there house and then turn around and have to take care of her.”

There eyes met and for just a fleeting moment, they shared a feeling only the two of them could describe. The dogs had finished their dinner and were at Jacob’s feet, looking like it was play time or time for them to go out.

“Those dogs love you a lot, and someone once told me a dog can tell if a person is a good person or not. You must be a great person.” she smiled and giggling watching him with the dogs.

“Would you mind helping up again and perhaps leading me to somewhere I could sit and relax, maybe the couch?” she asked, hating the fact she needed help like this. “And I really hate to ask but would you mind giving me a couple of the Tylenol you spoke of earlier.”

“Well I appreciate. Some folk aren’t cut out for relationships though. I don’t know…I was raised to do the right thing and do unto others even strangers as I would want someone to do for me.” He replied somberly.

Their eyes met and for just a fleeting moment, they shared a feeling that warmed his heart. It was hard to describe. He looked and down to see his dogs at his feet ready to play.

“Those dogs love you a lot, and someone once told me a dog can tell if a person is a good person or not. You must be a great person.” she smiled and giggling watching him with the dogs.

“Yea they are my family. I don’t know about being a great person. I try to do good.” He said as he pulled out chew toys and a heavy knotted rope.

“Would you mind helping up again and perhaps leading me to somewhere I could sit and relax, maybe the couch?” she asked, . “And I really hate to ask but would you mind giving me a couple of the Tylenol you spoke of earlier.”

He hopped up and got her the Tylenol then a small glass of water.
“Not at all no problem.” He replied and gave her the medicine and water. He then helped her up with his arm around her waist. He walked her to the sofa. He sat her down gently.

“I reckon you might be okay in a day or two but I need to be close by so you don’t have an accident by fallin.” He said and sat next to her.

“I really do appreciate everything you’re doing for me. I just wish I could pay you back some how. Actually I just wish I could remember what happened and who the heck am I.” She said as he helped her sit down on the couch.

There was a window behind the couch with curtains covering it and she pulled the a side a little to look outside. The snow had already started falling and it looked like it was that heavy wet, good making snowman snow. But she also noticed the way it was blowing around and wondered just how bad a storm they were in for.

“It’s started snowing, it looks beautiful, but I wonder what we might be in for,” she said to him. “If I was feeling better though, I’d be out making a snowman before it gets too bad, its that kind of snow.”

“Where are we exactly, I mean state, town city, I know its far out from town, but what town.” Then she frowned and felt the tears well up in her eyes. “What do you think happened to me? Do you think I’ll remember pretty soon?” She asked him, honestly wanting to know what he thought about her situation

“I really do appreciate everything you’re doing for me. I just wish I could pay you back some how. Actually I just wish I could remember what happened and who the heck am I.” She said

“No need to worry. Life is about doing good and good will return to you. I appreciate your company and that is my fee, paid in full.” He said smiling.

“It’s started snowing, it looks beautiful, but I wonder what we might be in for,” she said to him. “If I was feeling better though, I’d be out making a snowman before it gets too bad, its that kind of snow.”

“Yea I don’t reckon we will make a snowman for the next week and half. A lot of blowing besides close to 3 feet of snow expected.” He said smiling.

“Where are we exactly, I mean state, town city, I know its far out from town, but what town.” Then she frowned and felt the tears well up in her eyes. “What do you think happened to me? Do you think I’ll remember pretty soon?” She asked

He put his arms around her.
“You will be okay…I guarantee it. You are safe here and I will not let anything change that.” He said hugging her.

“Okay you are in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. We are 10 miles from Iron Mountain and a stone throw from Canada. We are just above Wisconsin and about 60 miles from Green Bay.” He stated and forced a smile.

“I don’t reckon I know what happened to you. There must be some bad people out there that wanted to do something terrible to you. Freezing to death is terrible. Umm I have seen people regain their memory on TV after stuff like this. But no matter…you are welcome to stay as long as you like. I will keep you safe Snowy.” He said with a wink.

She had been sincere in asking where she was hoping that something would jog her mind a bit. When he wrapped her in his arms she felt such comfort, unlike what she ever remembered.

“Okay you are in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. We are 10 miles from Iron Mountain and a stone throw from Canada. We are just above Wisconsin and about 60 miles from Green Bay.”

“Wisconsin, that sounds familiar, sand dunes…I think that might have been where I was, maybe a vacation or something. I don’t think I lived there, but I don’t know. Maybe after this storm, we might be able to get some information and see if maybe I was missing, that is if a newspaper even showed a picture.” She smiled at him and leaned her head on his shoulder.

“I don’t reckon I know what happened to you. There must be some bad people out there that wanted to do something terrible to you. Freezing to death is terrible. Umm I have seen people regain their memory on TV after stuff like this. But no matter…you are welcome to stay as long as you like. I will keep you safe Snowy.”

“Thank you, Jacob, it’s nice to know you will keep me safe and that I have a place to stay until I figure this out.” she said smiling up at him. “Thank you for all your help, I think if it weren’t for you, I surely would have died out there in the cold wearing practically nothing.”

Again she leaned her head against his shoulder and it was long before she fell fast asleep, exhausted from her ordeal.

“Thank you, Jacob, it’s nice to know you will keep me safe and that I have a place to stay until I figure this out.” she said smiling up at him. “Thank you for all your help, I think if it weren’t for you, I surely would have died out there in the cold wearing practically nothing.”

“Well things happen for a reason…some call it fate and call good or bad fortune karma. I don’t know…I am just an average blue collar guy. I normally don’t think a lot accept being out here just me and the dogs.” He stated and smiled.

“You comin here I reckon to be my good fortune. I am also glad you got here before the cold did any bad things to ya. We will figure it all out. I also doubt you are a U.P.er or a Wisconsiner…but we will figure it out darlin.” He said and smiled as he saw her asleep.

She leaned her head against his shoulder and it was long before she fell fast asleep/ He picked her up and carried to his bed. He tucked her under the covers. He grabbed a pillow and blanket and camped out on the sofa next to the fireplace with his loyal canines. He did however get up and checked his shot gun nearest the fire place was loaded. He was serious if anyone tried to harm Snowy, they would have to go through him and his German Shepherds.

Sometime during the night, she had woken from a nightmare and had cried out for help. Jacob and the dogs had come running, thinking someone was after her. Once seeing she was dreaming he comforted her with soft words and laid her back down.

“Jacob, please don’t leave me here alone,” she pleaded with him.

Finally Jacob laid down on top of the covers next to her and held her as she asked. He had gotten to cover from the couch and covered himself and the dogs slept all around the bed as they normally did.

At mornings first light, a person could here the roosters which woke the dogs and then Jacob and her.

“It must mean it’s time to rise and shine?” she asked, laughing a bit as the dogs surrounded Jacob, their tails wagging and eager to be let out.

While he went to do that, she stood up by herself but held the bed post for security. Her legs were a little wobbly and she was very sore, but not as bad as the day before. She tied the robe closed tighter, trying to get a bit warm as it was rather chilly in the house.

She wished she had something else to put on. Not to be nosey, she looked through a couple drawers of Jacobs dresser and in his closet for something she could put on. Finally she found a long sleeved sweater that hung down past her knees and she had to roll up the sleeves to see her hands. She also found some thick socks that fit over her small foot and up to her knees, other than having nothing on underneath, she was completely covered and rather warm.

Slowly she walked to the fireplace and saw it needed more wood and she managed to get a small piece up and into the fire where. It wasn’t long before the warmth radiated through her body as well as the front room and kitchen. She sat there warming up and waiting for Jacob to come back in. She hoped he wasn’t mad that she had his sweater and socks on.

Sometime during the night, she had woken from a nightmare and had cried out for help. Jacob, who is somewhat of a light sleeper leaped up and grabbed his .45 and came running with his dogs. He checked on her after confirming no one was breaking in or anything.

“Snowy…everything is good. I am right here.” He said rubbing her back as he held her.

“Jacob, please don’t leave me here alone,” she pleaded with him.

“Okay…we will camp with you tonight.” He said grinning looking at his dogs.

Finally Jacob laid down on top of the covers next to her and held her as she asked. He had gotten the cover from the couch and covered himself and the dogs as they slept all around the bed as they normally did.

“Good night Snowy, we are all right dear.” He said smiling.

At mornings first light…Jacob opened his eyes to normal morning sounds including a rooster off in the pasture.

“It must mean it’s time to rise and shine?” she asked, laughing a bit as the dogs surrounded Jacob, their tails wagging and eager to be let out.

“Yea by golly the pooches want out. I doubt they will go far. They know breakfast is a comin and I bet it still snowing.” Jacob said as he hopped smiling.

He let the dogs out then put on an apron and started cooking up pancakes and sausage as well as bacon.
“Hope you hungry Snowy…I sure do enjoy cooking for more than myself.” Jacob hollered out.

He let the dogs in and fed them their morning breakfast. Jacob then walked around the corner and smiled.
“Well what do you know…you made it all the out here and got our fire going good. Thank You Snowy.” He said grinning.

“So, I got some pancakes with sausage and bacon for breakfast. I got Milk and Juice on the table. I reckon you might hungry if your all warmed up.” He added walking over to her.

“I am glad you found some warm clothes…your welcome to what you find. I sure wish I had something better for you. Once the storm subsides…I can go into town and get a few things from Walmart to get you by better.” He states and watches to make sure she gets up okay.

“Hope you hungry Snowy…I sure do enjoy cooking for more than myself.”

“Yes, I’m starving,” she called back to him, while she had gotten dressed and made it by herself to the fireplace.

“Well what do you know…you made it all the out here and got our fire going good. Thank You Snowy.”

“You’re very welcome, it’s the least I can do after all you’ve done for me.” she said smiling. “Breakfast smells delicious.” she said at the same time hearing her stomach growling for food.

“So, I got some pancakes with sausage and bacon for breakfast. I got Milk and Juice on the table. I reckon you might hungry if your all warmed up.”

“That sounds just wonderful, I can hardly wait to eat, and as you heard my belly, it is looking forward to it also.”

“I am glad you found some warm clothes…your welcome to what you find. I sure wish I had something better for you. Once the storm subsides…I can go into town and get a few things from Walmart to get you by better.”

“Well I was hoping you didn’t get mad that I went looking thru your things, it was only to find something to put on instead of just the bathrobe. Plus it looked nice and warm, especially the socks on my feet. Thank you for not being mad.”

She stood up, not needing help and was able to get around much better today then the day before. She went and sat down at the table, pouring herself some juice and asking if he wanted some, which she poured some juice for him.

“So I take it, it’s still snowing and we won’t be going anywhere today,” she said, hearing him say the storm had yet to subside. “Well, I’m sure we could find other things to do, and you can let me help you around here with anything to. In fact, I’ll do the dishes, since you cooked and all. Really I need to move around a little bit or I won’t get better.”

“Well I was hoping you didn’t get mad that I went looking thru your things, it was only to find something to put on instead of just the bathrobe. Plus it looked nice and warm, especially the socks on my feet. Thank you for not being mad.”

“There is nothing in this house that I would get mad you using Snowy. Besides you look a whole lot better in them clothes than I do. I am sure they appreciate being attached to your body than mine.” He said laughing.

“I am glad you are hungry…I like cooking for two than one.” He added smiling.

She stood up, and walked on her own as he monitored closely. She went and sat down at the table, pouring juice for both of them.
“I like a glass of milk and glass of OJ every morning. I never get sick and I guess that is a part why.” He stated getting their plates ready and walked over and sat each down on the table.

“So I take it, it’s still snowing and we won’t be going anywhere today,” she said,

“Oh no it is still snowing and likely going to for a good week.” He said taking a bite of food.

“Well, I’m sure we could find other things to do, and you can let me help you around here with anything to. In fact, I’ll do the dishes, since you cooked and all. Really I need to move around a little bit or I won’t get better.”

“We will do them together. You wash and I will dry and put them away. How does that sound?” He said smiling.

“It is really a treat to have you around Snowy…I know its hard with ya not remebrin anything but just know you are safe. Everyone in this house is your friend including the Rat Pack.” He said smiling.

“Well I couldn’t think of a better place I’d rather be than here,” she said smiling and added, “with you and the Rat Pack.” she laughed.

When they were done eating, they both cleared the table and she washed the dishes while he dried them. The chatted and laughed as they did it, making jokes about the Rat Pack, which somehow seemed to know they were being talked about.

Afterwards she rested on the couch for awhile watching Jacob play and wrestle with the dogs. The more she looked at him, the more she seemed to wonder why the woman had left him. He was such a good person, caring, friendly, very likeable and she thought he would make any woman a wonderful husband. Her thoughts even went as far as wondering what it would be like to get closer to him, have him kiss her….Now why am I thinking like that, he probably isn’t looking at me like that…

When he sat up leaning against the couch, still having fun with the dogs, she reached out and brushed her hand across the top of his head. His hair was so soft, and he smelled so good, so manly. But she was starting to wonder about her memory coming back, and who knows what her past was like. She would never want to put him in harms way because of her problems, whatever they were. Then again, maybe it wouldn’t be bad to just forget her past, since she pretty much had, and use this opportunity to start all over.

“Jacob, you really don’t mind that I stay awhile, I mean even after the storm?”

Well I couldn’t think of a better place I’d rather be than here,” she said smiling and added, “with you and the Rat Pack.” she laughed.

He smiled.
“Well we are glad to have you here.” He replied.

After she was resting on the couch and he wrestled played with the dogs. After a while, she reached out and brushed her hand across the top of his head.
“I may play a lot with ‘em…but I am not dog needing petting.” He said laughing.

“Although I don’t mind your pretty hand petting me.” He added with a laugh but then a bit embarrassed maybe how that came out.

“Jacob, you really don’t mind that I stay awhile, I mean even after the storm?”

He turned around and smiled.
“Nope…I was hoping you might stay a bit. This was the place when I first moved in…and wanted to be alone. I guess think. But now I really like your company.” he replied smiling and got up and sat on the sofa with her.

“I know its hard not remebrin but are you okay? Like I said, I got probably twenty guns around this place and enough ammo in my basement to fight off the national guard…you are safe I will make sure of it.” He stated and put his arm around her.

“You have a basement here too?” she asked, a bit surprised, the word itself had given her a chill although she was unsure as to why it did.

“I don’t think I like basements, just makes me feel kind of scared,” she said, more talking out loud than telling him. “I know you’ll keep me safe, I trust you will and I know no one is going to want to mess with the Rat Pack.” she smiled.

“Maybe when I’m feeling better and the storm clears, you could show me how to use a gun. That way I would know how to protect myself too.” she said, looking up at him.

It felt good to have his arm around her and it did make her feel safe as well as comforted. She lifted her head up and kissed him lightly on the cheek.

“Thank you for everything, Jacob, I don’t know what I would have done without you. You’re a very sweet man.”

“You have a basement here too?” she asked,

“Well in case we have storms…the cellar is the safest place. It is where I keep a lot of food and other supplies incase I get trapped for weeks.” He replies.

“I don’t think I like basements, just makes me feel kind of scared,” she said, more talking out loud than telling him. “I know you’ll keep me safe, I trust you will and I know no one is going to want to mess with the Rat Pack.” she smiled.

He laughs softly.
“No need to be scared Snowy…nothing wrong with basements. They just may be how ya survive if a big tornado hits. But ya…the rat pack will guard you just the same. They have takin a shine to ya.” He states smiling.

“Maybe when I’m feeling better and the storm clears, you could show me how to use a gun. That way I would know how to protect myself too.” she said, looking up at him.

“I think that would be fine and dandy. I just have to emphasize to be careful. Gun accidents aren’t no fun.” He replies.

“Thank you for everything, Jacob, I don’t know what I would have done without you. You’re a very sweet man.”

He smiled and blushed at her kiss on his cheek.
“You have done a world of good for me. I wasn’t lookin forward to this storm and not being able to get out. So, need to keep thankin me. I like you here.” he replied smiling.

“Its been a long time…too long since I had female company. Excuse me for being a bit nervous sometimes…but I have to say rather like your company plenty.” He adds with a grin.

“I rather likes yours as well,” she said and put her fingers up to his chin, turning it to face hers. “I really like you,” she whispered before gently kissing him on the lips, her body pressed up to him that her breasts were against his chest, her nipples erect and pushing out a bit from the sweater.

“I don’t remember much of my past, but I sure like the present,” she said softly and then kissed him again, a bit more demanding, pushing her tongue thru his teeth and tasting his tongue.

Now this felt very good, she thought to herself, this really took her pain away, giving her pleasure instead.
