I've decided to try to come up with my own system of awards for the Winter Holidays Contest. I plan to go through all of the stories and pull out as much data as I can to come up with the following awards. These are some of the awards I'd like to see: (I have a few of the Awards compiled already with winners listed below). As I note below, ratings to be used are post-contest ratings, 'cause that's all we've got.

The Hottie Awards - all stories that earned a 4.50
Turns out that only 19 of the 141 entires did not get an H, so there were 122 Hot stories in the contest! I thought this award would narrow the work for the next several awards, but it didn't help much.

The Toppies Awards - all stories that are either in the Top List for their category, or at least have a rating equal to the lowest rated story in that top list.

#3) 4.70 Six White Boomers TonyDowse
In this category, various chapters of "For the Man Who Has Everything" actually had the top 5 scores in the category, however it seems unfair to give awards to individual chapters, so I am giving an award only to the top chapter in that story)

Once again, there were two chapters of "For the Man Who Has Everything" in the top ten, so I dropped out the second one as giving awards to individual chapters doesn't seem quite fair.

This story had first place on the morning after the contest, but subsequently dropped. I'll leave it here because it's hard to figure out where it really placed.
First Place: Alone For Christmas: Sack 4.95

(OK, sure, this isn't fair to the actual winners, who got one-bombed after the contest, but heck, they get actual cash money prizes, so they can deal with it.)

The PC Awards: The stories that got the most public comments (I will include comments by Mr. Anonymous in this list)

The 'AttaBoy Awards: Stories with more than ten public comments (NOT counting Mr. Anonymous) with the highest ratios of positive to negative comments. Positive and Negative will be in the opinion of the judges (me and anyone else who cares to volunteer, or post you own score)

The Early Birdies: The stories entered in the first week of the contest

The Wormies: The stories entered in the last week of the contest.

The Vote Getters Awards: The stories that got the most votes regardless of whether those votes were high or low. This means either that I can get the vote count from the Top List, or that I trust you to tell me how many votes you got.

The Masses are Asses Awards: The stories that got the least votes. For this, I depend entirely upon the authors to claim your place honestly by posting your vote counts.

The ExposeYourself Awards: The stories with the highest numbers of views. Again, only the authors have this info, so you would have to enter your numbers to win.

So far, of the data posted by authors, the most views is:

'I Believe' by slyc_willie, with astonishing 33,219 views!
Rating: 4.88, Votes: 168, Views: 33219, Cat: Erotic Couplings

Slipping to second but still an impressive number of view:
'In the Light of the Christmas Tree' (H) Incest/Taboo 4.77 /90/ 27,775, PC's: 5 positive, 2 neutral, 3 negative. 11/16/06
by TE999

And at an also impressive number, in third place:
Regrets by DG Hear, 4.75 212 21,878 Loving Wives, Public Comments: 39

Wow, those are a lot of views!

The Participation Awards: The lowest rated stories in the contest. (No, don't go one-bombing your story to get into this list).

This turned out to be easy: The nineteen that didn't get an H. I was going to list them but decided it wasn't nice. You already know who you are. Sorry about that.

The DNQ Awards: Stories with a 4.0 rating or above that didn't get the required 25 votes to qualify. Also known as: "Needed a better title and summary."

The AH awards: Stories that get nominated by you, the participants in the Author's Hangout, by posting below in this thread with comments as to why you think a story should get an award.

The Wheaties Awards: Serial (get it) stories with chapters in the contest.

In no particular order:

A New Orleans Christmas Ch 01, Ch 02, Footnotes: Hallowed Eve
A Japanese New Year, An American Thanksgiving, An Italian Christmas: ddimilano
For The Man Who Has Everything, Chapters 01 - 07: BlewWater 69
Oedipal Panties, Ch 01, 02, 03: SelenaKittyn
Sam The Christmas Fairy, Chs 01 - 07: SelenaKittyn
Thankful Abandon, and Thankful Abandon Ch 02: Angelick77
The Christmas Dumpster: Decayed Angel. Only the first chapter was entered in the contest. Other chapters not entered.
Twins in College Chs 50 & 51: WFEATHER
Elf Pleasure: Amy: damppanties (only this chapter was entered this year)
Harry Dick: Xmas Dildo Caper: Jenny Jackson (one in the Harry Dick series)
Now and Forever Ch 01: angelicminx (why did you stop with Chapter 01?)

The Scribblies: Most entries by an author. Some of you seemed to think that buying more tickets increased your chances of winning the Lit Lottery. I guess maybe it worked for BlewWater69.

First Place: SelenaKittyn (10 entries)
Second Place: BlewWater69 (9 entries)
Third Place: DG Hear (4 entries)
Five-way Tie for forth place: Hallowed Eve, ddimilano, Decayed Angel, TE999 and WFEATHER (3 entries each) (Also, Jake Rivers and Dynamite Jack are the same author with a total of three as well).

Note that 38 out of the 141 entires were (27%) were by the 8 Scribblie Award winners. Have all of you already quit your day jobs or something?

The Soul of Wit Award: Shortest story

Windy Award: Longest story

Stroker's Choice Awards: The stories with the lowest plot to sex ratio. (rather subjective - the nominees will be those stories that are basically sex scenes rather than full plotted stories).

Expert's Choice Awards: Using a formula yet to be devised (possibly modeled on the college football "Bowl Championship Series" rankings) I intend to use the award categories above to devise a rating system which will result in a Top Twenty list. The Top Twenty Awards will then be entered as nominees for the "Experts" Award. There will be open polls posted (in heats) for forum participants to rank the Top Twenty stories. You, the "Experts" can rank the top twenty. You will not be allowed to vote for your own story. I thought about just posting polls of all the stories, but decided that would be meaningless as few people have read all of them, and there are too many for a poll, so it needs to be distilled to a smaller list of nominees.

My proposed Top Twenty Expert's Choice Nominees:

I took the top ten overall, and then added one from each category (either first place in category, or the next one down if first place was already in the top ten). In the case of Romance, the top five were already in the Top Ten, so I did not add any others from that category. I considered adding one from the most viewed except that the leader so far is already in the top ten. I also included “Alone For Christmas” because it was in fourth place right at the end of the contest and then dropped later on.

I then deleted two on that list which did not make Literotica’s overall “Top List” in their own category. I hated to take those two stories out. They were good stories, but it just seemed to me that a winning story ought to at least be in its own Top List. Besides, even deleting those two made the list end up with 21 instead of 20, so I had to find ways to trim it as much as possible.

I’m willing to consider adding others to the list, or deleting some if there is some good rationale for it.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Obviously, this is HUGE amount of work, and also is clearly not worth that much work. I will however attempt to compile this data over some period of time. If anyone wants to help (or do it for me), volunteers will be eagerly accepted. Since I don't have the snapshot at the time of the official end of the contest, I will use post-contest ratings. It seems neither more nor less fair than any other date.

Feel free to make suggestions for other award categories, especially if you are volunteering to do the data gathering for it.

Also feel free to nominate yourself or anyone else for any of the awards you think a story may fit to save me from having to look it all up.

Most especially do feel free to point out any errors I have made or may make.

Now and Forever Ch 01: angelicminx (why did you stop with Chapter 01?)

Well, quite simply, I ran out of time to write. I am very close to having Chapter 2 finished, but no time to sit and write it. The way my schedule looks, I'll be lucky to have it done for the Valentine's contest. *Sigh* (Chapter 3 is begun as well.) Many apologies for leaving y'all hanging, but I believe you'll like the twist in both of them. :D

Like, totally, fer sure, absolutely. That would be a really big help, dooood. You know? I was hoping authors would do that.

4.87 102 9265 Romance (English) 11/11/06 approved
Public Comments: 35: 34 positive, 1 negative (I added my judge of pos & neg)

Oh okay.

Since you awarded me a Scribbly, I'll start.

'The Snow Globe' (H) Lesbian Sex. 4.67/36/7,082 PC's: 11 positive 11/12/06.

'In the Light of the Christmas Tree' (H) Incest/Taboo 4.77/90/27,775 PC's: 5 positive, 2 neutral, 3 negative. 11/16/06

'The Missing Ingredient' (H) Erotic Horror 4.67/28/5,918 PC's: 8 positive, 1 neutral. 11/22/06

Neutral means: 'A great story, however...'

Interesting sidebar: Of the 41 PC's I received, 22 were from my fellow authors. Over 50% of total. Thanks, y'all.

I love writing under pressure, that's why I enjoy the contests.

I have a tendency to prowl the AH and dawdle otherwise.

Like I'm doing right now.

Back to my writing.

Good luck with this.

Peace, man.

As it stands at this moment:

Grandfather Yule
4.74 | 38 votes | 9 PCs

Finding Karen (as Les Lumens)
4.63 | 250 votes | 21 PCs

(*gasp* *gasp*) need . . . more . . . data . . .

non-erotic category results have been revised. These may be dynamic awards. Sort of like the Tour de France. On day it's Floyd Landis, another day it's the Spaniard. No, I'm not suggesting doping in the Literotica contests, but the urine tests are pending. See the BDSM category for the most urine.

I think this is a wonderful idea! There are so many great stories; it's a shame that only 3 can win.

I'm not sure for what category, but I would love to see Unsung Muse's "Cake" win something. That story was a masterpiece!

Your wish is my command. "Cake" will be first place in the Lesbian Sex category, with an outstanding 4.86 score.

I might also consider Lesbian Sex for a Gutsy award. I don't think they get many high scores there, but I'm not sure.

Erotic Couplings category winners are up now. This was the category with the most entries (26) - one more than Romance.

God ... I feel like I'm at the school patrol jamboree where everybody gets a ribbon.

Thanks, Smy3th ... it is interesting to see the numbers (how many stories in which categories, how the views/votes/scores differ by catetory, etc)

Thanks. I wanted to kill off the guys in the end, but I thought it might ruin the sappy Christmas theme. :D

Yeah, I was thinking that too, but I was sort of trying to make sure I differentiated the awards for good stories from the awards for just entering.

Thanks, Smy3th ... it is interesting to see the numbers (how many stories in which categories, how the views/votes/scores differ by catetory, etc)
I'm glad to know someone else is interested as well. I'm having fun with it.

I thought it was a really great story. It is of course only due to the votes of the uncultured strokers and anonymous trolls that you didn't win.
