Philip Simmerson was an average freshman in college. At 5'11 with a mild build he wasn't imposing. His eyes were hazel and his hair a long, sandy brown. He was the first in his family to go to college. He scored high on his SATs and had a lot of promise.
Problem was, how to lay for four years at an Ivy League school? Just a minimum wage job wouldn't cut it. Father forbid taking loans. Fearing he would be slave to the government forever.
That's when an offer dropped into his lap from one of his roommates. A company named Umbrella was to test pharmaceuticals. They needed test subjects for field study. The flier said it was a pill for anxiety. Sounded promising.
The flier was vague about how exactly the trial would go. All that it really had was a name, phone number and a promise for a large payout.
Before anything could begin Philip needed to head to visit the lab where testing was to take place. He arrived that morning armed with his laptop satchel and a smile.
"This is so exciting! and weird" Philip told himself walking into the cold building. a chill rolled up his spine. the area was a bright and sterilized white. wearing blue jeans and a light gray t-shirt he not only felt out of place but vulnerable. Was he getting second thoughts? Hoepfully not. He was needed more than he knew. "It's just a pill. Just one miserable pill. Take it once a day, right? You don't have anxiety. Therefore the pill will have no effect on you." That's what he kept telling himself.
Checked in at the front desk he waited out front to be called into the back for a physical.
Waiting inside the lab was Dr. Rather, a middle aged and eccentric man wearing glasses and a pointed beard. "We have a new test subject arriving today? Excellent. Ready the serum. When it takes full effect I want all focus to be on him" speaking to his aides. The last three subjects have been disappointments as shown by them being carted out strapped to Garnier and covered in tarps.
