Much like the McRib, you probably ingested as many of these as you could while they were available in their annual limited lifespan. I downed these like water when I was a kiddo.

However, some of us are no longer kids with a sweet tooth for industrial green dye. We need certain...upgrades as adults. Much like the McRib, you're better off making them homemade, IMO.

because booze. :D

Getting verrrrry tempted to make one in the off-season! :D

I've never had one.

Well not one of those Shamrock Shakes, at any rate.

They are hard to make because when you squeeze a leprechaun, the little bastards squeal.

they tasted better when i was a kid and that's not nostalgia goggles. it's a fact. they were more minty. they're still good, but i miss the extra mint. luckily, vanilla shakes are a favorite, so the current vanilla and mint mix will do.

egg nog shakes are also awesome.

Well, speak for yourself, Zumi. :D Green drinks from McD's were a big nooooooo for me even as a kid. (On the other hand I was never that fond of the McRib either. Data point. Always preferred ribs that contained bones.)

I could maybe get down with the liquored-up versions, though thus far the only remotely greeny drinks I've been partial to as an adult were either smoothies or mojitos. I have admittedly always wondered how vodka would taste in a wheatgrass smoothie.

Well, as a kid, you don't really care what you put in you as long as it's tasty and fun-looking. That green stuff never registered as "bad" to me back then.

Now I realize we just trade up our fun-looking tasty objects of passion and joy as we get older. Through the course of my adulthood, I found lots of better green goodies to imbibe and mix with...

Realizing I haven't had or used Midori in ages. That would make for a killer Shamrock Shake. Might have to adjust my home dinner plans for tonight, now! :D

When I was a kid, "green" (unless it was peas or lettuce) automatically meant "snot." It was a battle even to get me to eat Brussels sprouts. ;)

The Midori liqeur looks interesting, though.

my mom used to keep midori in her liquor cabinet. i don't think i've ever had it as an adult. layer in a shot with peppermint schnapps and cream. oh man.

The Shamrock Shake is much worthier of a thread than the McRib.

The two items themselves go hand in hand, though. ;)

Or would, if their seasons weren't so far apart from each other. Which is why, boys and girls...ya gotta make yer own at home and have 'em all-year-round! :D
