GOP senator: National shelter-in-place order would be an 'overreaction'

Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) said on Thursday that he did not believe the administration should try to institute a national shelter-in-place order because areas of the country have been affected differently by the coronavirus outbreak.

"Not every place is the same. We’ve had the same conversation in Texas, but some places we have more cows than people, and the virus loves the crowd, loves congestion, and that's why you see places like New York and Dallas, for example, which is having its own struggles," he said.

"I mean, we know what to do. We need the social separation and the hygiene, while we continue to test for cures and while we continue to work toward a vaccine. ... Locking down the country more than necessary to defeat the virus to me seems like an overreaction," he added.

The country would be better off if we just shut the Senate for the next six months and let he House deal with things.

Problem there is too many of the Ronnies are behind the badge, both in the ranks and as elected Sheriffs and police chiefs and in command positions of the National Guard.

My next door neighbor is a maga hat wearing republican. He's a former Vet and great guy, a credit to the community and the country. We have some very interesting political discussions (better discussions than I find here on this forum that's for sure). So I think I have a more 3 dimensional view of how they see Trump than you do.

My neighbor is aware of Trump's reputation and his misdeeds in the past, and sees them as irrelevant to what Trump's trying to accomplish now. Just like dems are overlooking the me too allegations of Tara Reid for what they hope Biden can acheive come November.

As for the Ronnie Redneck thing this whole civil war bullshit really upsets me. We're not talking about a civil war here at all. What we're talking about is a violent purge where Republicans like my neighbor go to my door puts a gun to my head and shoots me just because I disagree with him on political topics. Although control of the Senate is widely seen as a 50-50 tossup, FiveThirtyEight elections analyst Nathaniel Rakich points to a series of new polls showing Democrats in very strong position to take over the chamber.

Senate Republican blocks Schumer resolution to immediately release CDC guidance on safely re-opening the nation

A Republican from Indiana has just blocked Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer’s resolution requiring the CDC to immediately release the guidance it created to help restaurants, stores, houses of worship, and other businesses along with local and state governments safely re-open amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Senator Mike Braun (R-IN), claimed the document, created by Centers for Disease Control and Prevention epidemiologists, scientists, and other health experts, was merely a set of “bureaucratic hurdles” and “over prescriptive guidelines” “designed to “shutter the economy,” CNN reports.

Arguing to make public the CDC’s guidelines, which the Trump White House has banned, Senator Schumer noted that President Donald Trump “is not a scientist,” and said, “it has become painfully clear over the last two months how unfamiliar he is with the disciplines of science and medicine.”

President Trump intentionally did not push for testing, even when the CDC was floundering, because he was concerned higher positive numbers would harm his re-election chances.

Also, Trump installed the current CDC Director, Robert Redfield, a right wing Christian extremist who is responsible for the failed coronavirus tests.

If the newest poll of the 2020 Arizona Senate race is accurate, Republican Sen. Martha McSally is set to go down in a humiliating defeat.

OH Predictive Insights found that she is trailing her opponent, Democrat Mark Kelly, by 13 points. He’s up 51 percent to her 38 percent, the poll found.

And in an opinion piece for The Arizona Republic, Laurie Roberts argued the poll is even worse than the topline results look:

Arizona, Colorado, Maine and a few others are sure to flip in Nov. Mitch and Lindsey are challenged biggly and Texas seems wavering.
