My tomatoes are dying.

I'm just surrendering the garden this year. I might get a few ears of corn, but shit...

Just shit!
 
I'm fighting the gray mold on the squash and z00ks. I did some research and discovered that mold hates hydrogen peroxide, so we're bringing out the chemicals to go after that crap. The cukes got some kind of blight which has all but wiped them out. The banana and bell peppers are plugging along. The tomatoes are so-so. The Romas are making lots, so if I get busy, I can can or freeze some for cooking this winter. The beef-whatevers are producing fruit, but they're taking their sweet-ass time about doing it. A couple of the cherry plants are making reloads, but the rest seem to have delivered one round and they're now "resting. And it quit raining 10 days ago so I am having to irrigate, which is irritating.


Otherwise, happy Sunday!!! I know, let's do Xmas in August!!!

I have some big pineapple tomatoes that did real well and are very tasty.

I have cucumber and zucchini plant which keep blooming but produce no fruit. At least, this week *fingers crossed* it finally stopped raining. We've had three clear days in a row. Of course the motor to my pool pump decided to die during the last thunderstorm, so I had to replace that.

Now it I could find the powdered motivation and add it to some water.
 
No, there was a broken bolt in the crankshaft of the lawn mower. The fucking over-priced John Deere lawn mower. That hunk of annoying crap. The fucking blade fell off, hub and all, because the bolt sheared off. It would be a more annoying mower if I had actually bought it. It was dead as a doornail when it was given to me, in all its dead one-year-old glory, so I laid hands on it and raised it from the dead, a feat I have had to repeat with it several times.


Fortunately, with the hub off, I just could grab the broken end of the bolt. It was finger-tight for the first two threads, but by then I had enough to fasten a gription device to for complete extraction. I took the dead end to the hardware store. Fortunately, my favorite hardware buddy in all the world was working this afternoon, so we had fun while finding a lovely grade 8 bolt to fasten all this shit back to the crankshaft. I got home with all my crap, pulled out my new fasteners, my old mower, and my hand tools. Fifteen minutes later, I was putting tools away and commencing to cut grass. It's all done now


The neighbor was going to lend me his, but it's dead, too.


I'd lay hands on it, but he's Jewish and doesn't believe in resurrection, so he's on his own.

Yeah, I keep hoping our John Deere will die so that I can replace it, but it refuses no matter how much the queen abuses it. 13 years and going strong.

Well, the rains return tomorrow, so that's probably the end of the corn too, it's been beaten down too many times to rise again I fear.
 
We have Thunderstorms too!

We really do not need them. This is the type of weather pattern that causes some of these giant trees to fall, the wet ground just will not support the shallow rotting root systems.

That might even be a metaphor for our government.

It was a wet-ass summer the year that Hurricane Isabel blew through in September. Gawd, trees were down everywhere. Something about high winds, wet ground, and branches full of wet leaves flapping the the gusts.


We were rehabbing an old house on a tree-lined street that year. There was the rattiest fucked-up-looking old maple out front. It didn't budge.

Yeah the trees we left because they were too short to hit the house ten years ago, are now tall enough to hit the house. So far, we have been lucky and the ones that have falen have fallen the other direction.
