The idea is to buy to quality, and I'm sure there is some quality there, but functions like the shut-off when you pull the carafe off, simply do not work and the water gauge with the ball in it are impossible to see. But the water goes through it gets hot and produced coffee...

Get a Bunn "Velocity Brew" or "Pour-O-Matic." My last one made it through 23 years. It started to malfunction once 15 years in and they replaced the part..........for free. It's also an instant brew, pour the water in and coffee starts flowing out right then (they have an internal water tank that is kept at brewing temp). They're about $100 bucks. Before I got the Bunn I was throwing away Mr. Coffee's, etc. at the rate of one every other year or so at $30 a pop.

PS. There is a reason that you see Bunn's in the commercial establishments.

My experience has been, some of those nice name brands that were great 20-30 years ago, the ones that made the company's reputation . . . well, they don't make 'em like that any more.

Milwaukee saws being one fer-instance.

I'll go shopping later - mostly, I don't want to, goddamn it!!!

But I do like bunz . . . .

As far as I can tell neither the design nor materials have changed on those two models.
