My minor quibble with this goes back to GM being the only category that will tolerate any story whatsoever with gay content (maybe lesbian/bi have the same limitation?). I have a gay-content novel here, and there's no place it could be posted except GM. (I have a longer straight novel, which I posted to Novels/Novellas.)

Don't see why gay male or lesbian should be exempt. ALL novel length stories should be in the novel category. Nothing to stop them carrying a disclaimer on top, or in the description. If long stories from all categories go to Novels it wouldn't take readers long to figure it out.

Naw. Stories should be posted where the readers of those stories will be (and where the "disapprovers" have no reason to be). GM readers don't tend to read outside the GM category. The Web site is already biased by having a whole range of category possibilites for straight and very restricted ones for GM and lesbian. Other sites have category ranges across the board: straight/bi/GM/Lesbian. It would be fine if there were a GM Novel/Novella category, but there isn't. Until there is, the stories should be posted where their target readers read.

That's more or less dumping anything longer than 3 Lit pages into four foot deep, completely unsorted bin. Nobody is going to sift through that bin for long, stumbling across kinks that turn them off, before they give up. The description line is simply insufficient without the aid of a category listing to give a clear idea of what type of story you've written.

May as well just ban long stories, because that's what it boils down to.

That's what Lit. is already relegating GM and Lesbian stories to. One catchall category each. And it's even worse for bi. Where does an author or reader go on the Web site for bi stories? Group Sex? The descriptor of that says nothing about bi. I'm bi and write bi and would read bi, but there's really no place to put it on this Web site, so I don't submit much of that here.

No doubt that Lit could use a Bi category. As it stands now, a story with a bi male is hate-monger bait on almost the whole site. The one category where guys getting touchy-feelie doesn't bring out venom won't tolerate the presence of a woman in the mix.

Well done Freddie!

Congratulations Freddie!!!!

You’re now one of the TOP 25! :nana::nana::nana: (I've never used a banana before but just felt this might be the perfect place to start)

Back in December you wrote one of your wonderful stories and it just happened to be about this famous list. Remembering it I went looking for it this morning and found that when it you wrote you were dead last! Today you’re 25th (which was where I was when you wrote the story) which means you’ve passed 90% of the people who were ahead of you in just three months.

You concluded your story saying (see complete story below): I don't know, I'm going to throw something way out in left field and tell me what you think. I think this is a popularity list. Gees, then that means that, no way, I win as the least popular, or in this case, the least favorite author here.

You’re no longer the least popular Freddie! You’re now 25th – enough said. But maybe its time to write the sequel! Call it something like: “I Climbed the Mountain”. Here’s the original for those of you who missed it.

The List of 250 Favorite Authors
by the popular BOSTONFICTIONWRITER

I made the list of the 250 favorite authors. I didn't know if I should be happy or sad. Last time I checked, I was last on the list, until someone realized their mistake and removed my name from their list of favorite authors and bumped me from the list of 250 favorite authors. Then, when I checked this morning, I was right back on the prestigious list bringing up the rear (I don't do anal) and firmly in last place. Ah, life is good. Thanks Ma and Dad for adding me to your list of favorite writers. Only, I didn't know you read erotica. Ewww!

Daniellekitten is in first place. She deserves it. She's a good writer. She has red H's on all of her stories, but for three and all of her poems but for one. She's even won two contests.

I've never won a contest. I work hard when writing my contest stories, but the bashers don't like any of them and zero out whatever good scores I get. I'm going to have to find out what stories the bashers like so that I can win a contest, too. And every time I get a red H, some fun loving guy or gal makes sure they give me enough low scores to lower my scores below the red H zone of 4.50. I have a ton of stories with scores of 4.46 to 4.49. If it wasn't for Literotica sweeping my page from time to time and ridding it of all the duplicate nonsense scores, I'd have no red H's at all.

Then, I started wondering, who are the people ahead of me, especially those in the lofty top one hundred and twenty-five places, and I was surprised to find out some things about those writers that I must pass to get to the top one hundred and twenty-five.

TryAnything in 6th, Kimberlykitten in 12th, DWSimon in 23rd, Powerone at 31st, Rob in AZ in 33rd, Spacer X at 38th, Bearlee at 45th, No Panty Girl in 63rd, Artisticbiguy in 64th, Jennifer01 in 70th, Jt123 in 81st, Singularity 86th, PasssionStJohn 98th, Sachiaiko 107th, Mindfiend 110th, Musicankane 114th, and Juliancoreto 118th (I feel like I'm calling a mega horserace) have not submitted stories in more than a year. I guess they've been busy. Only, I thought this was the 2007 list of 250 favorite writers. Nonetheless, it is nice to still be remembered as one of the top 120 writers even after not submitting anything in a year. I hope they remember me should I take a year off and not submit a story.

"Bostonfictionwriter? Who's that?"

"He posted a story yesterday."

"Nah, the name doesn't ring a bell. Sorry. I don't remember him."

Now, even though Zaxxon has not submitted a story in more than two years, he still made it to 17th place along with VertigoJ in 35th, Velvetpie 47th, Carsonshepard 48th, DamonX 55th, Anne240 65th, Sir_Nathan 79th, Green_Gem 102nd, Ladyofthemasque 103rd. Boy, those must have been some really good stories two years ago. I can't even remember what I was doing two years ago, never mind being able to recall a story.

Amazing, it's been even longer, 3 years, that GeorgeTasker submitted a story, yet he still managed to snag 19th place, way to go George, along with MaxSabastian 59th, Stormbringer 60th, English Bob 69th, Bobby T 73rd, Nikki_2020 74th, KillerMuffin 80th, Wavyscribe 91st, NakdSalr 117th. I hope three years from now I'll be up there, too. Hmm, I think the key to that formula is that I can't post a story for three years. I don't know if I can do that.

NiteWriter hasn't submitted a story in more than 4 years and still made it to 58th. I'm going to have to take the time to read his stories. They must really be good to still be remembered after 4 years of not posting anything.

Tawny T who hasn't submitted a story in more than 5 years, an eternity in erotica, when 5 minutes is the span of recall in the life of a horny pervert is a lifetime, still made it to 37th place and Wm_Sexspear to 101st, G. W. Lawrence 108th, Mark Singer 116th. Can you imagine the poor bastard checking the Literotica site every day with cock or vibrator still in hand waiting for Tawny T to post chapter 6 of her Lactating Lesbian Lady?

"Honey, when you go to the store, get me more double A batteries for my vibrator again. Tawny T still hasn't posted chapter 6."

She must really be a good writer who wrote amazing stories for people to still remember her, to list her as their favorite writer, and to make the 37th spot of favorite authors when even I don't remember my last story that fell from the main list a few days ago.

Colleen Thomas is 9th on the list even though she hasn't submitted anything since 2005, but for one story in 2006. Nonetheless, I can tell she is really good because of the number of contests she has won and number of the green E's that she has.

Surprisingly, rgjohn is 10th on the list after having a long three year absence and submitting some illustrated stories in the middle of 2007. Way to go, rgjohn.

Okay, now this one puzzles me and hopefully someone can enlighten me, as I am still relatively new around here. Drksideofthemoon made it to 13th place on the 250 favorite author (the keyword here is author, as in writer who has written a story to submit and to post at Literotica) list without ever writing and submitting a story.

Wow! Now, this guy really must be a good writer to nail down 13th place without ever writing a story. I'm going to add him to my list of favorite writers 'cause I really feel that he should win, matter of fact, I'm crossing out Hillary and Obama and voting for Drksideofthemoon for President. If he can make it to 13th place of the 250 favorite authors without ever writing a story, imagine the job he'll do improving the economy.

I wonder what his secret is. I guess I'll never know as he has yet to submit a story. Maybe, he's a really good reader. Gees, I hope he's not dead and Literotica deleted all his stories. That would be terrible. Only, it is good that his memory still lives on and haunts this 250 favorite author list. Rest in peace, Drksideofthemoon. I hope no one tells Literotica when I die because I don't want my stories, forgettable as they are, deleted.

"What's that? Someone already told them that I'm dead. Yeah, very funny."

Scouries made it to 25th place on the list. Enough said.

I don't know, I'm slow sometimes, but...I suspect that this list has little to do with the quality of the writer and his or her ability to write and tell a story, except for those who obviously have talent and we all know who they are. No, not me. I'm just a hack who is having the time of his life writing every day.

I don't know, I'm going to throw something way out in left field and tell me what you think. I think this is a popularity list. Gees, then that means that, no way, I win as the least popular, or in this case, the least favorite author here.

"Okay, I gladly accept this award. Thank you very much. Believe me, it was not easy to write nearly 200 stories and almost 50 poems and still be so disliked. I cannot believe I pulled it off. I want to thank you all for not listing me as one of your favorite authors. I love you! As far as those who have listed me as their favorite author...what are you nuts?"

ON MONTHLY CONTESTS

Re: An examination of vote totals of monthly contest winning stories (using the June winners as an example)

Literotica Monthly contest rules:

3 Stories must receive at least 50 votes to be eligible for any contest or category nomination. In the event that there are no stories with more than 50 votes in a particular contest or nomination category, then stories with 25 or more votes will be considered. ETC., ETC.

4 Votes for the month’s stories will be tallied after the 15th of the following month. (i.e. The voting on stories submitted during June will be closed on July 15th.) Literotica will determine the winners based on the voting score and number of votes the story has accumulated from the first of the contest month to the sometime after 15th of the following month.

Which I think means that the voting for entries for June 2007 closed on July 15th.

Which also means that the First and Second place stories in the contest must of had 50 VOTES each on July 15th 2007.

Which means that a story listed as one of the TOP RATED SCI-FI stories of all time (#1 yesterday, #3 today) received, at most, 1 vote from July 15th 2007 until March 10th 2008.

And that a story listed as one of the TOP RATED GAY stories of all time (4 of its chapters among the top 75 today) again received, at most, 1 vote from July 15th 2007 until March 10th 2008.

Which of course is a load of crap! Quite simply the contests are FIXED!

But I’d like to state categorically that I don’t believe the authors of these stories (or most other monthly winning stories) had any hand in the fix.

For whatever reason the operators of this site (or their underlings) are handpicking winners and subverting the rules and hence destroying the integrity of these contests.

It’s no longer simply my opinion, it’s a fact.

Thank you in advance

I'd like to take Literotica. I couldn't have done this without them. Thank you Laurel. Thank you Manu.

I'd like to thank my Mom for giving birth to me and my Dad for sticking around.

I'd like to thank my Rat Terrier, Polo, for making me take him for long walks in the dog park where I get most of my inspiration to write my stories.

"Yeah, that's funny, someone in the audience said now he knows why my stories are shitty. Ha! Ha!"

I'd like to ask President Bush to bring our troops home and then to kill himself.

I'd like to thank Scouries for putting the spotlight of attention on me. I only hope that this is not my 15 minutes of fame.

I'd like to thank DanielleKitten for making me suddenly so popular. I couldn't have reached 25th place without you, DK. Thank you so much.

Okay, the music is playing I have to go. I'd just like to say that I love you all, especially that little weasel of a man sitting at home in his underwear who writes multiple comments to every single one of my stories and then goes through my page erasing my red H's. I love you, weasel.

"Only, get a life!"

Thank you to all my fans who voted for me and to those who have not voted for me, please consider adding me to your most favorite author list. Let's send a message here. I want every one who reads this post to vote me, Bostonfictionwriter, as your favorite author. Let's zoom my name to the #1 spot.

I want to see Bostonfictionwriter with 30,000 votes.

Thank you in advance.

ON MONTHLY CONTESTS 2

Re: Story length and multi chaptered stories winning monthly contests

The question isn’t whether they do win an inordinate number of the monthly prizes – we all know they do. The question instead we should be addressing is why don’t LAUREL and MANU adjust the rules to make it fairer for everyone.

The second question, and the more important one in my humble opinion, is why are LAUREL and MANU unwilling to have any kind of meaningful dialogue on this subject (or any other subject for that matter).

Whenever LITEROTICA introduces a change (and there have been some recently – the look of the FEDBACK PORTAL, adding FAVORITE AUTHOR and FAVORITE STORY links, announcing the special contests on the NEW STORY page, the latter a scouries idea by the way, the change in the look of the VOTING STARS, etc.) it comes as a surprise to us all. A post out of the blue from MANU.

I think the present monthly contest system is a joke and I’ll continue posting to that effect, hoping that some day, again out of the blue, MANU or LAUREL will fix it.

But you know what? The thing I’d really like to see is a post from LAUREL that went something like this: “Hi, we’re in the process of changing/adjusting/evaluating such and such on the site. We’d like your feedback. Please post it here or PM us.” Then, (I know this is a radical idea) when input had been received, various ideas debated, she or MANU would announce what they’d decided and the thinking behind it.

Green E

The contest are fixed? Are you sure? No way!

So...who do I have to pay to get another Green E?

The one that I have it getting a little tacky. Maybe, I should wear it in the shower.

I don't think it's real Krytonite.

Colleen Thomas is 9th on the list even though she hasn't submitted anything since 2005, but for one story in 2006. Nonetheless, I can tell she is really good because of the number of contests she has won and number of the green E's that she has.

Colleen was an excellent writer, as well as a cherished friend, but she sadly passed on May 26, 2006 (no matter what the trolls say).

August winners...

Literotica Author Awards
August Monthly Award Winners

I see the August Winners are out. I’ll only comment on the first place winner. It’s a Sci-Fi category entry called Genie Chronicles Ch. 28 by Joe Brolly.

Seeing another Sci-Fi category won a monthly contest I decided to look at the category in greater detail. I find it very strange that Sci-Fi stories are winning all these prizes on an Erotic story site.

Investigating, I found that it looks like 3510 stories have been submitted and are now up in this category. Of this total, approx 550 (15% - which is a pretty high percentage) have a rating of 4.80 or higher. This puts this category in with Romance and Novels as the ones with the highest average ratings (which obviously helps in these contests!).

So just by writing in this category Joe had a leg up on winning. Then he made it a multi chapter story – that was his second leg up!

Here’s the history of our August winner: in the first thirteen chapters it ranged from a low of 4.61 to a high of 4.86 (averaging about 4.77+ which is very good). The last ten chapters, not surprisingly, averaged higher, approximately 4.88 with the final chapter receiving the highest score - 4.95 (and the monthly prize).

Mr Brolly’s story may be excellent. In fact to be fair to him it must be noted that he clearly attracted a good group of diehard fans for his series. I haven’t read it nor am I much of a Sci-Fi fan these days, but do I believe its fair to give him a prize for the 28th chapter of a story when every other chapter had a lower rating?

Sorry, I can't work up any energy for this. In my main entry category, readers don't vote much at all (which I don't take as not reading/appreciating good and/or stroking stories posted there). There's almost nothing going to 50 votes in a month (unless the author runs from computer to computer--and if it means that much for him, he's welcome to the false win)--although I must say this is picking up, probably because of the change in the prominence of the voting buttons.

I've never paid any attention to the monthly contest and don't feel any loss therefrom. At least this contest isolates the different categories, because, as you have pointed out, there's a wide descrepancy on tending to vote and the average level of voting rate from category to category. What's more unfair than this monthly contest set up is the equalization of the categories in other contests, it seems to me.

I'd love to have a couple of Ws, but that aint' gonna happen, so I'll just be happy with the Hs (which seem to have become harder to come by with the new voting buttons) and Es (which I value the most).

P.S., I will note, in support of your contention, that "something" is out of whack in the the contest winner world that, at least in my main category, the names on the 250 favorites list don't match up in any way with those winning contests. I haven't looked any further into that, but it indicates something is out of whack to me. And it may not be what is happening in other categories.

Its raining sci-fi winners!!!!!

Literotica Author Awards
September Monthly Award Winners

First I would like to thank LAUREL for the effort she’s making to catch up.

However, I am worried that having all these winners announced this month is not doing ScouriesWorld any favors. We still haven’t received our ROYALTY CHECK for February (and given our sales last month it should be a big one) and can’t help but wonder if all this prize money being flung willy-nilly to every Sci-Fi writer on the site hasn’t adversely affected the cash flow of LITEROTICA and impaired their ability to pay other obligations.

The winners? More of the same I’m afraid. Long, multi chaptered stories.

Sci-Fi Breathless Ch. 02 by Evil Alpaca

This is the third Sci-Fi first place winner in the last four months! I think we all now know what kind of fiction L+M are reading these days. LITEROTICA? Maybe we should call it LITALIEN.

The author’s intro starts: This story is a bit wordy and fairly long…. Oh, oh! There are 6 chapters so far in this saga, chapter 1 was rated 4.75! This story has 5 comments and 52 votes and seems to be rated 4.83. Another story that somehow just slipped over the 50 vote barrier and then received no further votes in the last six months. Yeah right!

Incest Ashley Ch. 05 by ShiggyMoto

This is an Incest category story which is such a rarity that I suppose I should applaud. Except this chapter has 10 pages and is part of a 38 page story and this chapter, the last one in the saga, again has the highest score of all the chapters submitted.

Loving Wives Under Watchful Eyes Ch. 03 by AsylumSeeker

This is without doubt the strangest of our winners. First it’s a Loving Wives category winner which is unheard of and Mr. AsylumSeeker must be given credit for accomplishing this incredible feat.

It’s a strange story though. The author starts off with this extremely cryptic note: Author's Note: My intent is not how things turned out. I had anticipated two separate series, written concurrently, Under Watchful Eyes (series) and Under Watchful Eyes 2, both with successive and linked chapters. Somehow, and I'm sure though my own fault, they have turned up as successive chapters (despite my attempt to delineate the differing cats).

It took me a while to figure it out but I did discover that Chapters 1, 3, and 5 are in LW’s while chapters 2, 4, and 6 are Incest chapters.

This winner, chapter 3, is odd for another reason. It only received 2 comments! And this in a category that is famous for huge numbers of comments. It also doesn’t have many votes (only 77) for a LW story. Perhaps chapter 2, an Incest category chapter, chased most of the LW readers away. And vice versa.

Here are the scores for the six chapters: 4.62 (LW), 4.81 (I), 4.86 (LW), 4.78 (I), 4.31(LW), 4.60 (I).

If for no other reason than this guy wrote my favorite all-time post: (“Sorry, not believing it. Another example of a wannabe that is left lacking. Put a hint of your "riches" in my pocket and I''d be more accepting.”) I believe this man is the most deserving winner of a monthly contest prize in over a year.

October Monthly Award Winners

Well at least a Sci-Fi story didn’t win!

We’re back to Romance and Novels. I think I preferred the Sci-Fi.

Again the winners fit into the usual cubbyholes:
1 – Written in perennially highly rated categories.
2 - Later chapters of multi chapter stories.
3 – Winning chapter much higher rated than earlier chapters. (get rid of the people who don’t like it and win a contest)
4 - Friends of the contest judges.

Romance Show Me Heaven Ch. 05 by rachlou 8 comments, 69 VOTES. RATING: Ch.1 4.73, Ch.2 4.68, Ch.3 4.80, Ch.4 4.85, Ch.5 4.90. It’s now up to its 9th chapter.

Romance Caught by the Tide Ch. 03 by evanslily 12 comments (8 during the contest) 113 VOTES. RATING: Ch.1 4.74, Ch.2 4.78, Ch.3 4.88, Nine part story so far.

I am sure that I did not get them all but I got a hell of a lot of them. This is meant for the new readers but old readers feel free to enjoy it again. At the very least, it will be easier to read.…

This sounds like a republication of an old story which to my mind should have made it ineligible for any prize but what do I know.

50+ pages!!!! 24 comments 113 VOTES, 4.88 RATING.

Again the winners fit into the usual cubbyholes:
1 – Written in perennially highly rated categories.

Translation: Not Incest

2 - Later chapters of multi chapter stories.
3 – Winning chapter much higher rated than earlier chapters. (get rid of the people who don’t like it and win a contest)

You can probably count on the fingers of one hand the number of people actually writing chaptered stories that have even considered this connection ( besides you, of course )

4 - Friends of the contest judges.

And there's where any credibility you might have goes out the window, and makes everything else you've typed pointless.

You long ago blew any chance of anyone taking you seriously, scouries - with good reason. Even when you bring up a valid point, nobody wants to support it, because it looks like they're agreeing with the village idiot.

You have fun preaching to the cardboard cutouts you've set up in the pews, now. If you get bored with that, you can always use them as characters in your next masterpiece.

Dear Scouries,

Whilst I subscribe to the view that no publicity is bad publicity, I do feel obliged to point out a teeny weeny error in your kind mention below of my winning story.

The chapter that won first prize in Octobers Monthly contest, was in fact the LAST chapter of the series. Show Me Heaven isn't ongoing, nor is it up to the 9th chapter.

I do have other stories that begin with the letter S, so perhaps your sight was blurred during the time you checked out my submissions page?

Thanks again for the sincere congratulations on my win,

Rach

I have been reading your posts and stories. Eat much phony baloney? You're the one whose credibility is in the toilet. You are a woman.

You forgot the password to the old alts, didn't you? Bad form, that.

Yes, I know - everyone on this forum is just an alt of one person, who somehow manages to post an average of tens of thousands of words worth of stories every month under the various alts, on top of forum posts.

Much more credible than the theory that all these people actually exist. I don't know why nobody has ever figured it out before!

That's sarcasm. I know it's a lot of syllables, but sound it out and I'm sure you'll manage.

Well at least a Sci-Fi story didn’t win!

We’re back to Romance and Novels. I think I preferred the Sci-Fi.

Evanslily is yet another psycho bitch alt. So many alts, so little time.

That's the truth.

And lesbian readers get upset if there's strong BDSM elements in a lesbian story.

I really think the story tags need to be revamped and given a stronger presence in the various listings. Right at the top of the story, on the "New" page, etc.

Then we need a list of standardized suggested tags to help identify some of the themes that get lumped into "catch-all" cats. Would really help readers weed out the kind of stories they don't like, and find the ones they do.

The only other options are to add a dozen new categories, or reorganize the entire database ( more or less impossible due to the enormous size )

Barring any of that, it's author's notes out the wazzoo to ward away anyone who might be creeped out by a theme they aren't expecting.
