(set sort of like Ursula Le Guin's books....)

The small cottages that were in the hills of the land were skewed with magic. It looked like a sad attempt at decorating.

Scattered neatly on the tundra, the lush gardens were either magic or the green thumbs of the students.

Inside the Great Hall of the Wizard school, Stood a girl, more like a woman...who had stumbled in. Her magic really unknown. She was thrown out of the village years ago. No one could open the door without the gift. Not just a gift of magic, but THE gift. She just pushed the gnarled door, carved with a great intricacy.

Her long hooded deep voic black cloak hung limply and tattered, frayed, and burned, dirty and smelly and seemingly beyond repair.

Her hair, tucked neatly beneath the hood. Her face smudged, her face shadowed. A tiny black dragon sat upon her shoulder as well as having a hoard of other dragons, wearily awaiting her outside, all shapes and colors. The dragon upon her shoulder blinked it's shiny marble black eyes. They really frightened her. For the dragons wouldn't leave her side.

Her soft shoes the color of the cloak. Beneath her cloak you would find simple clothing. Tattered but clean.

Her eyes, the blackest of all blacks. No white was found, it was really quite odd. A normal eye would have a pupil, an iris, and the whiteness surrounding it. None of that was found. Only total blackness. Though beautiful if you could bring yourself close enough to her. The dragons made sure no one did.

She was absolutely terrified of the creatures that wouldn't leave her alone.

Timidly, she let down her hood. Escaping was a thick mass of jet-black hair. Her complextion, porcelin (sp?).

Her dainty features and the aura about her held the air.

Her height, demanding, and taller than most, made her an outcast, among other things. Her age, not but 20, fair and naive.

The hall began to fill with light, the sound of voices filled the air. The dragons outside let out a growl.

(eh, jump in, Don't care what your char is. but LIMIT your powers. please.)

Louis Malvox

Louis is a classic example of a wizard just born nasty. In the 'evil' sense of the word. He is annoyingly good at his studies, and ruthless in his pursuit of knowledge.

He is devilishly handsome, with pale skin, piercing blue eyes, and jet-black hair. Many of the students are terrified of him, but he has all but the most perceptive of instructors totally snowed.

[Any resemblance to any of the characters from the Harry Potter series, such as the young Lord Valdemort, is totally intentional... ]

OOC: Damn you, Neale! That was almost exactly what my character was gonna be like! Well, guess this school attracts nasty, evil wizards.

IC: Lord Frane Incrast sat at his desk, his jest black pupils scanning the book for the information he needed. he felt an intruder in the Hall, and teleported himself down. Instead of the basic wand, he used a staff. Much harder to channel energy through, but Frabe had always enjoyed challenges. His black hair was greased back, clearly showing his handsome, if somewhat tanned face. Another thing that set him apart from most wizards here was that he worked out heavily on a daily basis. He stared hard at the girl. "I see you've got the Gift. Who are you? What are you here for?" he asked, his voice commanding, clear, and charismatic. His looks and voice were very decieving, making him appear to be a nice, kind person. He was the exact opposite. Indeed, he did cruel expirements and practiced weaponry often.

Louis Malvox

Louis waited patiently for his mentor, the Lord Mage, Incrast, to return from his errand. The young mage was eagerly looking forward to working further upon yesterday's experiments... today, they would attempt to put the rabbit's limbs and organs back together, magically. Louis thought back to his first real encounter with Lord Incrast, when Incrast had been one of the very few faculty members to even suspect what kind of ruthlessness Louis' icy soul held. Incrast had told him that the 'good-boy' act didn't fool him for a second, and Louis' heart had stopped for a second. Then, when the highly feared mage had offered to tutor him in the dark arts... how could Louis have refused! This was a high honor, and he'd learned far, far more from Incrast than the average student here ever would.

/ooc: Yes, I'd been planning this character from the moment I saw Lava's original ooc thread post. I think, however, that an apprenticeship under your thoroughly vile tutiledge will be worthwhile. After all, who is more experienced in the ways of evil sorcery than the mighty Morgoth?

Joach collected the last of his things. A new shirt, and a couple of other clothing made their way into his satchel.
"Well, thats it for me. I am outta here."
Ribbie looked up at him, "Where are you going?"
Joach looked at the frog reassuringly, "I am not sure exactly. This place has just worn up it's time, and I think it's time to leave."
Ribbie the frog hopped onto the satchel giving out a load croak, "Take me with you."
It would be a long time on the road, and a talking frog might help in certain situations. Joach lamented.
He put the frog in one of his pockets, picked up the satchel and ran from the small orphanage. His plight would take him where he may, and his destiny would forever change him. In a sense the young boy now carelessly running could never be what he truly wanted to be, only what he must become.
Joach let Ribbie up on his shoulder after they had entered the forest.
"Do you know of any good places to spend the night?"
Ribbie looked at a few rotten logs rather intensively.

Arha and The Teacher Mage

The small black dragon on my shoulder, craned its neck and opened it's strong jaws, showing it's hissing tounge and rows of teeth. A small flame of fire was quickly extinguished from it's inexperience adolescent mouth. Smoke flared from its nostrils.

I looked up, a shadow still covering my face. I was confused, I went to brush the tendril of hair that crossed my face as I looked up timidly. In the center of my hand a flame appeared, not under my control, I yelped as it almost singed my hair.

I heard thuds on the roof, signaling more dragons had landed. Ones I hadn't sensed before.
The court yard must have been full of them.

"I am Arha. Don't demand to know who I am, it is rude." I said, my voice showing indifference. It wasn't spoken harshly.

"What are YOU doing here?" I asked..."where are we?"

The dragon upon my shoulder, screeched and hopped from my shoulder when the man walked a step closer. He stood planted firmly in front of me.

The small frog float over the brook, howvering just above the water's surface.
"How long can you do this?"
"For a few minutes, I have never tried anything quite so big before."
The frog looked at it's body, "Maybe you should try. I mean, I am just a little frog."
Joach looked at the thing, it was little, he could tell. He had never thought of actually trying to learn more. HE was content with simply moving little things in other people's presense. It was funny, and always got a laugh.
"Do you think I should?"
"Should what?"
"Learn more things."
The frog shrugged. There was a sudden dip as he made his way dangerously close to the water.
"OK OK OK OK, I think you should. I really do."
His body made it's way back to the shore.
"Thats better."
The frog got back on it's original spot on his shoulders and breathed in a sigh of relief. He never was one to get wet too much, besides there looked like there were alligators in there.
Joach couldn't help but feel a little bit happier as he made his way along the forest trail. Just think of all the things he could learn.

As I fly throw the are on the back of brother dragin winddacer I think of the scool that I'll of to it's spost to be the best magic scool in the land. Angus MacStark

The groundskeeper of the school approached the thronging horde of dragonlets, fury written all over his face. "Och! Gie ye gone nauow! Ye damned messy beasties, dropping all over mah nice clean lawn! Gie ye gone, I say!" He waved his rake at the nearest dragonlet, who flew up in an annoyed screech. The dragonlets began to fly around the irate groundskeeper, who swatted at any that dared come to close. Things seemed to be at a standstill, until a robed figure approached...

Boriana Animagistress

A plain woman, middle-aged, dressed in brown robes approached the chaotic scene of the groundskeeper's battle against the swarming dragonlets. She stopped, stared, smiled and shook her head fondly at Angus.

Stepping forward, she took out a flute from within the folds of her robe, and began to play. Shortly, nearly all of the dragonlets had stopped their swarming about Angus, and had come over to land and listen where she played. Once she had their attention, she stopped playing briefly, and spoke a few words in a strange, unearthly language.

Angus, who had noticed his tormentors' absence finally, and who was advancing upon the resting dragonlets, fury in his eye, received a warning glance from the woman.

Once the woman resumed playing, the dragonlets took to the air once more, and flew off into the woods.

Angus spoke up, "Professor Boriana, thank ye. The wee beasties had aboot done me in! Turrible it was!"

Boriana smiled at him, and said, "They were no real threat to you. Obviously, we have a new student who they were looking after. Now, if you'd threatened her seriously, you might have been the recipient of several dozen little fireballs. Not a pleasant sensation, I would imagine."

She paused to straighten her robes, "I think I should very much like to meet the student who managed to impress that large a fair of dragonlets. Very much indeed..." With a determined look in her eyes, she made her way to the entrance of the Great Hall.

The Wind Master

(OOC:NOt familiar with Ursula Le Guin's books but will give it a go anyway. Hope you don't mind!)

Fujin Quinne

I fly, carried by the winds. A twist of my fingers and my altitude drops, so I can observe the landscape closer. I seek the School of Magick.

Is it the only place I can settle? I know that I cannot run forever from my hunters. They stalk me, haunt my dreams at night, waiting for an oppurtunity to set upon me and squeeze the life out of me until my body is a lifeless husk. But I will fight them! Even if it takes every last breath out of my magic.

A forest passes below me. Seeing a stream, I move my hands and set down gently next to the babbling brook. Thirstily, I gulp the water from the brook. My last battle has taken much from me, and I'm in desperate need of a rest.

Leaning against a tree I rest, listening to the sounds of the forest. Birds singing, the water rushing over the pebbles, the leaves moving in the breeze. And a pair of feet. It approaches me slowly. I turn and look in it's direction, fingers stretched in case my enemies have found me.

My fingers relax when I see nothing more than a dishevelled young boy heading my way. He has a frog perched on his shoulder, obviously his companion on a journey of some sort. I flop back against the bark, tired and relieved.

I tilt my hed at the sudin silins from out side I send a query to winddancer whot hapind did you fry them or whot

No a lady plade some music and talket to them and they left quitly she is cuming your way brother.

I smile slitly and tern to the girl beside me and say som one is cuming she may be the one you wont to talk to I look at the evil one and fron as he has sed nothing as of yet. I look down at the black dracklet and say lets go be for that one do's somthing rash.

Brother can you cum out hear and com thes eritating man down befor I do somthing rash.

I smile and say ok I take the girl by the arm and led her to the door looking back frequnly to be sher the man dosn't try any thing.

Incrast growled at the one with a sword. "No steel weapons allowed in the school, boy", he sneered. His hand extended and the sword flew from him, landing neatly on the ground in front of Incrast. "You, I suspect, are a new student? This is the School of Magic and you have the gift necessary to be accepted", said Incrast politely to Arha. "Now I must go, dear child, for I have matters to attend to", he said, twirling around like a small tornado before dissapearing. He appeared next to Louis. "Louis, let's continue with the expirement. This frog's heart is going to simply die in a few minutes, so we need to hurry", said Incrast, reflecting upon Arha. If he had any weaknesses, it was his fondness of children.

OOC: Good idea, Neale. And thanks for the compliment. lava, I wouldn;t say this one's going to die.

A rore lood enff to shake the walls is herd as my sword fly out of scaberd. I smile and say my brother is rather tuchy obout such things. I woch as the man disapers. I go and pick up my sword and re sheth it. I send a silint coming thot to my brother say no harm wos dun and I don't think we whont to anger any budy hear until I lern how to us my magic any way.

I tern bac to the girl and say whot is your name.

"Now be quiet. Look, there's a guy over there. Some people don't take kindly to talking frogs, or talking anything for that matter. Just be quiet ok?"
The frog muttered a rubbit, and stayed quiet. Joach nodded to him, and tried to make himself look presentable. He made his way to the clearing.
"Good morrow kind sir. I was wondering if you knew of any towns nearby. I am hungry and wish to spend the night."
"Ribbit," the frog said.
Joach looked at him only for a moment, a cross in his eyes. He looked back at the man kindly though. With any luck, he might even get a ride there, although he didn't see any horse around. Odd...

Louis Malvox

Louis leapt from his seat outside Master Incrast's chambers. Once again, his tutor had managed to completely sneak up on him... Someday, I've got to learn how he DOES that!, the young mage thought to himself.

"Yes, Master Incrast. I've practiced the incantation, and researched the modifications you suggested. We should be able to make the amphibian control potion last twice as long now. Of course, the controlled amphibians will die painfully afterwards... oh, well."

Boriana Animagistress

The instructor for the lore of Mystical Creatures watched from outside the doorway as Master Incrast glided smoothly away, leaving not one, but two students in his wake. Nasty piece of work, that one... she thought, still, there's no denying he knows his art. Best see to the new students.

Striding forward, Boriana smiled broadly at the pair of young mages, "Welcome to our school! I am Mistress Boriana Animagistress, and I am the instructor for the lore of Mystical Creatures. My goodness, but the pair of you look famished! Let's retire to the dining area, and we can talk about what brought you to our humble school. Oh, and young man, please do ask your rather large friend to calm down. If he's hungry, we keep a herd of cattle a short distance away. I've sent a message to the herders to expect him."

Fujin Quinne

The young man made me smile. Looking him over, I could see he was a good kid; young and perhaps a magic user? His talking frog was a point of interest too. But I didn't want to push things.

"A town? I'm unfamiliar with this area myself actually."

He shrugged in response. The frog yelped quietly. This boy was interesting.

"What's your name, young man?" I asked.
"Joach." His voice was quiet and confident.
"Joach..." I repeated the name in my mind. It sounded familiar, but I couldn't place where.
"Shall we look for a town Joach? I'm pretty tired myself."

I look up at the new cumer and I sens that she is a good lady. I smile when she ses that ther are herds close by fore my brother I think at hem.

I'm glad the flyt hear wos tiring.

I hear the hes thuders wing bet as he takes of to find the promist food. I tern and folw the lady to wer we can talk.

Aenur

Walking towards the school, with his pack over his schoulder eating an apple, Aenur sees a group of ppl at the entrance, and decides he mgiht as well get it over with. He didn't like magic. In fact he hated, it, but he was "gifted" with it. in his case it was mroe harm then good. He believed in a strong arm, and 3-feet of steel. The Teenager, was wearing a dark green cloak. Only his one arm was showing, because of his eating, and he'd hoped ot keep it that way. He had his blade hidden with him. He never truested magic, and the only reason he came was because it was family tradition. Everyone in his family had been "blessed" with magic, and unfortunatly to him, he was no exception. Since he hated magic so much, he mostly practiced destructive spells when he was forced to train aas a child. But he would often sneak off form his magic tutor, and use his sword.

Arha

I looked around, things were frightening me beyond all belief. I felt the power surge through my body, I was unable to stop it, it seemed to happen at any time I felt some sort of emotion.

I dropped to the floor, my hands out in front of me. "I...I can't...stop it..."

Flames began to form and lick at the walls, I was being destructive and I couldn't help it...

"Oh..oh!" I sobbed. My hands out in front of me as if they were coated with some awful substance and I was huddled together.

I felt the presence of the dragons leave and go somewhere nearby...

****meanwhile**** Horrible things had taken to the seas. The dragons weren't around and were arriving at the school by the hundreds. The dragons protected the book of the names. Without them there to protect it, anyone could take it, then, without warning, any man could have control over anything, for he would have the book with the true names of every living creature.

That is when the disturbance began...

I stop as the girl drops to her nes with her arms stiking strate out in frunt of her. I look arund at the fire that has sprug up out of now wher. I fronw and think I'm beging think I should hav put on my dragon scale armer. I consintrat on my on porly tot magic cumining woter and aer trying to put out the fire. But as soon as I put out on flame anter starts up and I can't ceep up with it netoln stop the girl. I sweet apers on my forhead as I consintrate on whot I'm doing.

Finly in desprion I trow a sheld arownd the girl not nowing if it would werk or not. The fires go out but I do somthing rog with the shild and it back fires on me wild uncutrold magic ters therw my body cosing me culps rithing in pain. Then I black out seeing and hearing nothing els.

winddancer
As I fly to the herds of catil sudinly I feel my brothers pain as if it wher my one. I nerly crash in to a hell but I'm abil to distins my self from the pain in time and tern back to the school roring and brething fire anger plane in my vois. I land out side of the bilding wer he is and prosed to ter down the wall to git at my brother.

Boriana Animagistress

The new girl triggered wild flames, totally out of control, which surprised Boriana immensely. Before she had a chance to react, the other new student, the dragonrider, attempted to solve the problem, unfortunately incapacitating himself in the process. With a sinking feeling, Boriana sensed the approach of a badly frightened dragon.

Uttering a very unladylike curse that would have startled anyone who didn't know what an earthy soul she truly was, she sent out a magical call for the other members of the faculty to come help the students. Her magic wasn't really as suited for dealing with flames and injuries as some of the other faculty members. Panicky dragons, however, were well within her realm of expertise.

Once the school healing mage instructor had arrived, mere seconds after she'd sent the call, Boriana hurried outside to meet the dragon.

As the dragon came flying toward her, screaming with outrage, she demonstrated just why she was in charge of the study of Mystical Creatures... With a wave of her wand and some arcane words of power, the dragon's fury ebbed. Her voice projected into its mind directly, so it could see the truth of her words and memories plainly, Noble Dragon, your brother is safe. He overreached himself in his desire to help a young lady in distress, and our healer is tending to him now. Rest here, Great One. I pledge my troth that no harm shall come to your brother.

The dragon landed beside her, coming right up to her face, staring into her eyes, as though judging the worth of her very soul. Evidently, she passed his inspection, for he settled down at the base of the tower, still agitated, but no longer ready to disassemble the castle.

Silen, summoner and dimension architect;)

OOC:For my description, please check it up at 'OOC:Wizard's School' thread.

IC:

Upon the professor's call for aid, Silen closed his book of summoning and placed it back into a drawer carefully, stood up and took a few steps back slowly. He closed his eyes and breathed deeply for a few times, then raise his hands and put them together, palms outwards and claw-like style. A thin black line formed between the fingers and lengthened slowly to a height slightly taller than his. A slight curl touched a side of Silen's thin pale lips. "I'm getting better. Now..."

His long slender fingers slide into the black line, widening it. His pull was gentle and delicate, but his concentration was strong and firm. What was a black line now was a doorway of darkness. A portal to another place.

Silen lowered his hands and with his concentration still holding, stepped in. The portal closed up behind him.

A black line formed out of air just behind Boriana and widened into a portal. Silen stepped out from it, silent as a ghost. He frowned abit before the portal closed up. Closing a portal was much harder than opening one. He opened his eyes and realised he put his exit portal to close to Boriana. His nose was just touching her hair. "Need to work on distance too..."

Silen took a step back and gave his greeting, almost a whisper, though respectful, from his soft and childlike voice,"Hello professor, you called for help?"

He stood still like a statue, waiting for her reply.
