I think it was June 26th that I went to the hospital for this. Just getting over the heart attack. I was feeling better.

I checked in, got the left side of my body shaved, they had my wife write yes, on my left hip, and no on my right hip. IV connected, some good juice put in that made me feel good. The next thing I know I am in a different room upstairs with a bunch of shit hooked up to me. I was sorta out of it the whold first day. Recovery from the anesthesia. Plus a lot of good medication. I had a morophine drip going, that I could controll. Catheter running up my prick. IVs. And a cool little thing that collected the blood from inside the hip. I have two scars from it that look like a snake bite.

Physical Therapy got me up and walked me the very first day. I was too out of it to help much, but I put weight on my leg.

By the third day most everything had been pulled out. And I was in a lot of pain. The first pain pills they put me on made me hallucinate. I didn't care for that, so they changed my meds, pain got worse, but I wasn't seeing things.

Forth day I went home. Thank god.

For awhile I had a steady stream of people coming to the house. They had to draw blood to see if the blood thinner I was on was at the right level. A PT lady came and helped me learn to walk with a walker. This went on for about two weeks, maybe longer with PT.

I hurt a lot for a long time. By the end of July I was feeling better. Getting around pretty good. Good endurance. The only real pain was around the scar area. Doctor sent me to PT for this. I missed the first week of work, then things got back to normal, for the most part. I walked with a cane. Sitting or standing too long hurt. But I was making it okay.

Thats why I thought the next hip replacement would be so easy. This one really was a breeze. Sure I had pain, but you forget about it after it is gone.

One hip down, one to go. Look for part three. :)

Shit man

Hey Teach.....When your all better (And you will be), You will look back and in time the pain will fade. Just keep hangin in there buddy, and keep your spirits high.(and your head too if you want)

Remember I got a hand gun and I'm not afraid to use it.

Good to see that some surgeries are like childbirth.

You know it will hurt...you forget how much it will hurt.

Did they let you eat a lot of ice cream? (Or is that only for tonsils?)

Why would they only shave one side of your body? Damn, the least they could do is shave both sides so you could swim in the Olympics.

Your absolutely right. I knew it was going to hurt, and hurt bad. But that didn't bother me. I really did forget what the pain REALLY felt like. I forgot enough that I was willing to do it again.

I really didn't feel like eating much of anything.

It felt, and looked weird to have one leg shaved, and the other not. They started right below my arm pit and went all the way to my foot. I felt like half a transvestite ;) .

serving as a bump]

Now that I have had this long fight with my right leg, all the doctors are very quick to point out that no two surgeries are the same.

Gee, thanks for the information NOW doc. Had I know, I would have waited until June again, and lost another Summer Vacation. Better than losing work... :(
