The Face of Deception
The Killing Game

These two are about a forensic sculptor who is looking for her daughter whom she believes was killed by a serial murderer. Basically, she gets too close to the truth and the bad guy comes after her. Very good trillers.

The Search

Story is about two characters from Face of Deception and Killing game. Story is sorta linked to first two books. Just got the book, haven't read it yet, but hear it is good also.

Mortal Fear

Thriller about an Internet killer who stalks and kills women at a chat site. Pretty much scared the crap out of me. But its very good if you like intense thrillers.

Anne Rice: Witching Hour.
Stephen King: The eyes of the Dragon.

Uhm....Hustler??

Just read the "Lord of the rings" trilogy and it still rocks after all these years, before that I read three books base on the "Aliens" film's.

Men!!! Geez. J/k :D

That last one is just for when their eyes get tired and only feel like looking at pics....:D

I found "Lord of the Rings" quite boring actually....it took me about a month to get through the first and I gave up reading the second book because I just couldn't do it.

The best book I've read that springs to mind right now is "The Diamond Age" by Neal Stephenson. There's no term that I can use to summarise it because it's the most unique book I've ever read. It's a sci-fi book but there's so much more to it than sci-fi....he incorporates philosophy, religion, and culture in the central themes of the book. To me it's a masterpiece!

Somebody else please read it and agree with me :)

R, Excellent Thread Idea! I really need this kind of thing. I havn't been able to enjoy pleasure reading at all this year. :(

Outty, That is strange, I just got my copies back from a friend, and I said to myself... "must read these again".

They just rule. I love em.

Here is some reading I don't suggest...

Business Communications books of any kind.
Turfgrass Management.
Agricultural Pesticides: A comprehensive user's guide. (my ass)
*These are books to stay away from.*

Here is a book i like...

Tropic of Cancer, by Henry Miller.

I'm not showing off but I managed to read all three books in two week's, which is fast for me, I've read the hobbit about five or six times in all.

G.R I just can't wait for the films of lord of the ring's to come out and I think I'll go to the cinema to see them rather than wait for them to come out on video, anyway gotta go now as I'm bushed, see you on the flipside...;)

The Oxford Companion to the English Language
Korean Grammar for International Learners
Mindhunter by John Douglas and Mark Olshaker
Bones by, uhm, Some Chick
The Brethern by John Grisham
Celtic History by Whatshisface
Morning Glory by LaVyrl Spencer (my fave)
and
Rommel's Army in Africa by Dal McGuirk

Last several books I've read. No wait, I'm missing the Hanja Dictionary, 1800 Daily Use Characters or something. Drat, where'd that book go?

I can't wait for the movie too....it looks excellent!

These are some of my recent favorites:

The Unbearable Lightness of Being - Milan Kundera
Psycho - Robert Bloch
Starr Bright Will Be With You Soon - Joyce Carol Oates, writing as "Rosamond Smith"
Nocturne - Ed McBain
The Green Ripper - John D. MacDonald
Personal Demons - Christopher Fowler
American Pastoral - Philip Roth
Ficciones - Jorge Luis Borges
A Fan's Notes - Frederick Exley
Rebecca - Daphne du Maurier
The Moon And Sixpence - W. Somerset Maugham

And Laurel, I loved The Wasp Factory too! The only other Iain Banks novel I read was Complicity, which I also enjoyed and would recommend.

Anything by Elizabeth Moon.

I am currently reading Liar's Oath, the second sequel to The Deed Of Paksenarrion trilogy. (Heroic Fantasy)

She has also written several collaborations with Mercedes Lackey, Anne McCaffrey and the late Marion Zimmer Bradley in both the fantasy and Science Fiction Genres. Her Latest is Against the Odds in the Familias Regnant science fiction series.

That's just my current infatuation, I go through an author every week or two, depending on how prolific they are. I spent most of MArch and Part ot April working through all of L.E. Modesitt's fantasies and the Pern books by Anne McCaffrey.

I liked Diamond Age, but it wasn't quite as good as "Snow Crash", and "Cryptonomicon" was one of the best I've ever read. He's a great author.

I have to say, though, that you must be outtayerfrigginmind to find Lord of the Rings boring. :)

*muttering* I feel like such a freak.

Why? I just read The Brethren last weekend. I love John Grishams' stuff.

I don't think the one on Rommel would do me much good, but what the heck. Different strokes :)

Oh, and I've read a LOT of Whathisfaces' stuff. Didn't he start publishing right about the time my CRS started getting bad?

:D

Screw Tape Letters- C.S. Lewis

STrongs Concordance- J. Strong

Handbook of Todays Religions - J. McDowell

Greek Lexicon.

Secrets of the Dead Sea Scrolls.

Christianity throughout the Centuries

Fox's book of Matrys.

Mary Stewart's books

The Hobbit is grand,,, once worked on a theatre adaptation of the book, that was great fun

Robert B. Parker in short doses

And if you REALLY want to fall asleep in record time try the current model building code books,,, YAWN !!

The Book of the Hopi- the beliefs and history of the Hopi people as told to the author by the tribal elders. as far as i know the only one that has direct input from and cooperation of the People.

Cosmos- the one they made the TV series from

A Book of Five Rings- a deceptively simple book on stratigy. i've read it three times so far and found something new each time. i'll probably read it over and over till the day i die.

Voyage Through the Grand Canyon- about the second Powell expidition

A Game of Thrones
A Clash of Kings

both by George R.R. Martin

I haven't gotten to the third one, but I'm just itching to get my hands on it.

Fast paced medieval fantasy. Martin is awesome--very erotic and doesn't think twice about suddenly maiming or killing off main characters.
