The fat cat at 36 seconds is a dead wringer for the one I've been talking about on the evil cat thread.

Question for the cat knowledgeable - would the cat boxing the baby at 27 seconds have already had its claws ripped out, or is that just the way a cat behaves when it's foolin' around?

I am about 99.99999 percent sure that that cat is declawed and so its little feet are soft and harmless.

The *way* it's batting is funny though, because it's not a mean fuck off posture, but a "I'm playing with this weird thing" body language, to me - that's the posture my cats have with their toys.

It's not a savage kill kill thing but more "wheee!" Or at least it kind of starts mean and ends on that note, like the cat changed its mind.

My sisters kitten, who isn't declawed, plays with her son and has never ACCIDENTALLY scratched him. When C got his hands around the cats throat, he scratched him on purpose, and we figured C had it coming. But he's learned how to keep his claws to himself when playing.

And, it's really cute.

I think that clip is part of Winston's montage. That's the fat cat, the dead wringer I was talking about.

Thanks for the explanation. It's weird for me to think of cats being playful; I don't think I've ever seen one doing so, in person.

I have seen many, many playful cats. Lots of vicious ones, too.

Emily would never, ever put her claws out while playing with me, or anyone.

Declawing is cruel. Just like tail and ear docking on dogs. At least the declawing does, sometimes, serve a purpose and save a cat's life. I've participated in all of those procedures, made me ill.

One of ours is declawed. I wasn't keen on it, but it's saved us vet bills on the other one's face. None of my furniture is worth surgery.

He'd never scratch her for real, but she doesn't *get* that.

Docking and cropping piss me off, always have. Our old vet in the Bronx refused to do those.

I've spent very little time around indoor cats, so it's difficult for me to know what's going on in most parts of Winston's video. I just don't recognize the behavioral clues.

I never understood the urge to maim pets. My observation of people and animals, in general, is that the former consider the latter to be at their disposal for personal entertainment, food, plowing, whatever - usually with little or no concern for the actual quality of life of the animal in question.
 
My girl cat uses her claws like little fingers. If she thinks I have overslept, she'll wake me up with one claw to the head. Not often though. I have to sleep past 9 or so and I'm a early riser. Sometimes the boy jumps on the bed to tell me the sun is about to come up. He loves to talk but never asks for anything. The girl is always whining about something. To go out mostly.
