The Ranch... Open..

Seeing Josh and Kat preparing to head out as I am pulling Damion from the stables preparing myself as well. I give a yell out to them, "take care you two I'll see you about lunch time."

*waves at Sam as she yells*

Tim thanked Penny for the well prepared breakfast and hungrilly devoured it, leaving very little left on the plate after he was done

After breakfast was over, Tim grabbed his bag and decided to go out and wander around the ranch, getting to know where everything was

Smiling and then mounting Damion, he was indeed a beautiful horse but once on his back I felt rather very small and the ground always seemed to have its way of looking very far off. Turning his head away from the ranch I give a final wave, catching sight of George just coming out the door as I pull through the gates. Heading in the direction that Kat had told me earlier.

George came out of the ranch house in time to see Katherin and Josh ride off in one direction and thought about the first hug from Sam as she set off in another direction. He went to the stable and saddled 'Sheba' coming out of the stables just as Tim came out of the ranch house.

"Are you going to help clearing the riding trail?" he asked Tim. "If so you'd better find yourself a horse, we shouldn't be long only an hour or so he added and waited to see what Tim would do. He knew Tim was keen to do some painting but the ranch had to come first, he'd be able to paint as much as he liked once the important jobs were done.

ooc : Sorry all wanted to let you know i accidently broke my glass's last night and so my posts will probly be slow in comming as its is hard for me to see the screen. lol

<ooc: hoping this is a suitable beginning>

There was little to suggest where he had come from, and little besides the direction he was heading in, to suggest where he was going to.

He was a tall stranger, about six foot 3 and his broad shoulders spoke of one well accustomed to heavy lifting and the more practical occupations in life, though the fact that he walked completely upright with little at all in the semblence of a hunch implied that there might perhaps be some form of military service in his background.

His wild unkempt hair strayed across his fair in the breeze and his long black trench like coat covered him from head to foot. It was belted in the middle and a black hat was held at his side, pack back in another hand as he strode purposefully across the land. In fact, he wouldn't have seemed too out of place a century or two earlier.

Thick leather boots were upon his feet and made deep furrows in the ground wherever he walked and his eyes gave the distinct impression that one, he could see right through you; two that he would give little away about himself. Stubble grazed his face and a look of stone seemed permanently attached to his posture.

In the distance he could see a small pick up but he paid it little attention as he continued on his way, the bare flicker of his eyes showing any sign he had even seen it, though from so far away that too was un-noticeable.

Penny is startled awake by her cell phone ringing. She blinks, and looks around, to see she was napping on the couch in the ranch house. She takes a deep breath, feeling bad that she wasn't doing anything ....

"Hello? Hi daddy. You'll never guess. A ranch. In Montana. Ummmm ... Renolds, I believe. No way! Is that a coincidence or what? No. Umm ... no. Really daddy, no. I can't believe you're saying this. No, and that's final. Yes, I will be coming back home soon. Goodbye. Love you too."

She looked shocked for a moment, then got up and walked outside. She glanced around the ranch, walking slowly. Taking in the sights, the sounds, of the horses, the cattle. The sense of right-ness. Sure, she'd love to have a ranch like this. But ... not the way her father had just suggested. He couldn't just ... buy happiness for her.

She stood on the lower fence-rung of the horse-yard, watching the horses be ridden and exercised.

The man continued on his way, slinging the back pack over his shoulder as he neared the house he could now see from the distance. He had been travelling over some of the land for a day now, sleeping beneath an old oak the previous night. A nearby stream had helped as far as hygiene was concerned.

For the briefest of moments a smile glanced across his face as he noted the ranch house, perhaps he was not too unused to civilization. But it was gone now. His strides came to an end about a good hundred feet from the door, he was now a single observer, watching from a distance and standing perfectly still. His eyes did the searching.

Sam

The ride home hadn't taken me as long as I thought it would, the mares were quiet and just followed along. I kept thinking of how to start the lessons, first it would have to be the in's and out's of what to do with a horse and not to do with a horse. Some of the small tricks of how to saddle a horse, but today I figured mainly I would just show them how to care for their horse, make friends with their horses and such.

Off in the distance in front of me I could see the ranch, but between myself and the ranch I could see a figure walking. Curiousity getting the better of me I head towards the lone figure. As I get closer, I can make out a long trench coat and in the persons hand a hat and what looks to be a back pack.

Not wanting to startle the person, giving a call out to them, "Greetings can I help you?"

The man turned as he was greeted. It was a slow movement as if he had known her to be there the whole time. A quick appraisal was given of the feminine figure, if she was close enough she would have the thought that everything about her, every inch of her was now noted in the man's mind.

He smiled briefly, disarmingly, hat briefly raised to head and let fall by his side again,
"G'd day to ya." He drawled "Perhaps you can and p'haps you can't...that would depend now wouldn't it?"

He watched every movement as the lady sat atop her ride. Now that she was closer one could tell it was not just the broad shoulders that were distinguishable, his form was one that was well used to hard work, his clothes looked weathered though his face contained few signs of age, he was probably around 30. He placed the back pack on the ground as he talked wth the lady.

"I'm just lookin for some shelter for a few days...willing to earn my keep so to speak if it's what you wish." His accent was unmistakeable, a Texan.

As soon as Carolyn parked her car she regreted not asking Penny to come. The shopping would have been easier, and more fun too. She parked outside the grocery store and grabbed a carriage - she knew she'd need more then one to get everything to keep so many people fed three times a day plus something for a snack if someone was looking for a nibble.

She had organized her list into vendors. She buy large quanties of flour, sugar and miscellaneous baking needs. There had been some empty plastic air-tight containers at the ranch so she'd make good use of them. She planned to keep dry mixtures for pancakes and waffles so all that was needed were the wet ingredients. Organization was a must.

The people were so friendly and warm. She told each merchant she was now at the Renolds Ranch and would be shopping for quanties - to say the least she told them laughing.

The butcher knew more about what she wanted and needed then Carolyn did so she took his suggestions and advice. When she left him she had more then enough for a week. He'd deliver it to the ranch this afternoon, for which Carolyn was grateful. All the merchants knew more then she so it was best to listen to them and learn.

It was a nice morning and she was surprized that by ten o'clock she was just about finished. Everything was going to be delivered - the shop keepers used one truck and driver to deliever goods all over the area, it was a great idea and freed her up for a little extra free time.

Back at her car she stopped and looked around, taking in the sights and sounds of the town. She smiled becuase she was already feeling a part of it all. She decided to take the longer route home... home, her first thought was the ranch and nowhere else. That was a good sign.

She'd already planned lunch and had the ingredients with her, they'd be fine fro an extra fifteen or so minutes. She wanted to explore some more.

later that morning

After making a couple visits to farms, Michael headed to the office in town to clean up, do some work, and cover the place until Dr. Cortland would be in that afternoon.

His pickup was parked outside. "I'll have to wash it pretty soon," Michael thought.

Tim looked over at George. The offer to help clean the trail sounded slightly more like a task to him, but he went along with it anyway. "Sure! I'll lend a hand! Uhhh, which horses are left?"

George

George helped Tim find a quiet mare to ride and they soon had it saddled and where on their way to the riding trail.

When they arrived George was surprised that it wasn't more overgrown as it hadn't been used for years according to Katherine.

"It looks like it wont take us as long as I thought it might," George said to tim as he dismounted and started getting scythes from the back of his horse.

"It looks like it wont take us as long as I thought it might,"

"Great! Don't get me wrong, I'm here to work, but some jobs can sometimes take just too long, y'know?"

Tim dismounted and grabbed a pair of shears. "So, uhhh, hows this gonna go down?"

George

"We just have to clear the worst of it off, so theres enough room for two horses to walk side by side. The trail is about a mile long but from the look of this we'll finish it in about an hour if we get stuck in," George told Tim as he surveyed what he could see of the trail.

It looked as if the livestock had wandered onto the trail from time to time and cleared the worst of the overgroth for them. He could see two or three patches that would really need a lot of work but the rest would be easy.

"Alright then! No sence in wasting time! How short do you need the grass?"

Tim grinned as he held up the shears and made a snipping motion in the air a couple of times with them

George

George thought for a moment as Tim asked how short he wanted the grass.

"It's not so much the grass that can be up to six inches long we have to clear the heavier stuff like the twigs and brambles. Those are the things that spook the horses when the twigs or small beanches crack or the brambles catch their legs. As you can see there isn't much bramble although there is some, the small branches only have to be thrown to the side," George told Tim.

"I know you're an artist, what kind of painting do you do?" george asked as they worked.

Tim worked alongside George, clearing whatever was neccissary off of the trail.

"I know you're an artist, what kind of painting do you do?"

"Me? Oh, well I kinda paint landscapes. Y'know, rolling fields, sunsets, that kind of stuff. I also draw animals. Don't tend to paint them much, but have done on a couple of occasions"

George

They were making good time clearing the trail, they'd got about half way and only taken just about half an hour.

"Do you want to take a break?" George asked as he took his water bottle off Sheba's saddle.

" Do you paint things like the ranch house?" he asked. Wondering if Tim could do a painting of the house without anybody knowing so he could give it to the girls.

Tim had been putting his back into clearing the path, and had worked up quite a sweat.

"Do you want to take a break?"

Tim grinned. "You read my mind, man!" He grabbed the water bottle that Gregory had stashed on his saddle

" Do you paint things like the ranch house?" Tim raised an eyebrow as he took a drink. "Aah... Well, not really what I focus on. I mean, I've done buildings before..."

George

As they sat and relaxed for a few minutes having a drink of water George said

"I was wondering if you could do a good painting of the ranch house, but if it's beyond you we'll forget all about it"

"I'd like to see some of your work at some time in the future," George told him.

On her way back from her errands, Anna found herself twisted again as to which direction the ranch was.

"It's not as if there are landmarks," she muttered to herself, looking down the long stretch of road. Up ahead she spotted the edge of town. Dammnit. She had almost made a complete circle.

She decided to do the sensible thing and stop for directions. There was a vetrinarian's office up on the right. She noticed a white pickup truck parked outside. She couldn't recall where she'd seen it but she knew it was familiar. She'd seen it before somewhere.

A bell tied to the door jingled as Anna opened it. The office itself was rather small. There were some pictures of horses on the walls. Probably a country vet who specializes in large animals, Anna surmised. Anna didn't see a receptionist.

"Hello," she called politely, "Anyone here?"
