The push to ban books in Texas schools spreads to public libraries

https://www.texastribune.org/2021/12/20/texas-library-books/

When the Llano County Library shuts down for three days this week, starting Tuesday, it won’t be for the holidays. Instead, a group of six librarians in this small Central Texas county will be conducting a “thorough review” of every children’s book in the library, at the behest of the Llano County Commissioners Court. Their mission will be to make sure all of the reading material for younger readers includes subjects that are age-appropriate. A new “young adults plus” section will be added to separate books written for an older teen audience from those geared toward younger readers.

The three-day closure of the library system in Llano County, about 80 miles northwest of Austin, also means a temporary shutdown of its virtual portal through the online book provider Overdrive.

“I think we owe it to all parents, regardless if it’s a school library or a public library, to make sure that material is not inappropriate for children,” Llano County Judge Ron Cunningham said. The Llano County community’s push to scrutinize the local library’s book stacks comes two months after a Texas lawmaker first questioned the inclusion of more than 850 books about race, equality or sexuality in public school libraries.

Local public libraries in Texas, including those in Victoria, Irving and Tyler, are fielding a flurry of book challenges from local residents. While book challenges are nothing new, there has been a growing number of complaints about books for libraries in recent months. And the fact that the numbers are rising after questions are being raised about school library content seems more than coincidental, according to the Texas Library Association.

Yep....it isn't the parents job to know what their kid reads...it is the job of a Fascist Party

Just hope they don't weed Harold Sticks His Purple Crayon Way Up His Ass and Curious George Is a Negro.

Keeping the population walking and talking is the priority for Texas. Books and personal hygiene can follow on later.

I rather suspect that this manufactured outrage isn't at all about banning.

It's only about what is banned. Banning religious texts?

Well, yeah! DUH!!! It's "PUBLIC" school...

;) ;)

So, help me get this clear. Are they keeping or tossing theri copies of Huckleberry Finn???

Texas needs to ban itself!!

Not really, I've spent some time in Texas the last few years and I was notably surprised (as a dewd from California) about their type of temerity.

They're not dumb.
They're proud.
Reliably so.

They get shit done (or fixed) the way they say they do and it's all very cathartic and the way you might want from Texas as a state. I'll have you know that not only can Texas girls lead a Cowboy but they can screw them bolts in too. There is ZERO disparity between the two as far as I was able to witness (and I was watching/within hard work to save many homes, purposefully, over and over and over again). The men did not appear to treat them "beneath" in any manner and if they had - the "her" probably would have skulled the "him". I loved it much. Observing all that. A wicked bitch or two walked up to me and taught me how to hold a tool. And I loved that also (I needed to, cuz I was new). Texas IS baddass. And their women serve no one. Other than a worthy man.

So how's about we let them work that out?

It's the Lone Star State, ya know? Texas was not part of us. They were plenty good - and plenty proud - without the rest of us. America likes to take credit for The Alamo. But that's not ours, it's Texas.

So let Texas figure it out, maybe?

I dunno, I'm talkin' out my ass right now.

All I know is we're heading for killing each other and I'll have a particularly hard time killing those Texas people, perhaps.

I will weep upon each and every one of them. Whom I kill. In an effort to save my actual and surviving America. Once the bell rings, "GO!" and we begin to do that for the second time. Start shattering each other like the enemy.

I will remember Texas the entire time I kill those with weapons against me.

"I'm sorry. This is for OUR America. You would not understand."

And I will weep.

Sorry. What were we talking about?

Honest history?

I remember a Tori Amos quote about Texas: "If you go to Texas, you take some bug spray, and I mean that in every sense of the word, girls."

They are not removing the books. They are being relocated in more age appropriate sections- supposedly. As a Texan, I can tell you, the news is full of shit and so is our governor and lt. governor. Things (news) gets blown way out of proportion and then the fucking idiots around here start making a bunch of noise. It really is exhausting. Most of the people I run around with aren't as ignorant.

Someone's got to be voting those idjuts in.
