The Predator

I'm going to bother. It can't be worse than whatever that last one was trying to be.

Go for it, man but be warned there is a little kid and in no way does a little kid fit into a Predator movie.
There are some good scenes and a few good lines of dialogue but...eh. I mean I've seen worse for sure, even worse Predator movies (looking at you AvP and AvP 2) but I'm really really glad I didn't pay to see it.

Anymore than an unarmed woman???

Saving/protecting the innocent is a classic and almost impossible to get rid of fixture in any monster flick.

It's fan service....if you're not into the Blade Runner/Alien/Predator universe, you probably won't enjoy it much.

If you are? Totally worth the 7 bucks or whatever.

All the previous movies did just fine without kids. Kids ruin movies like this.
All the women in it are armed at least part of the time.
It's shitty fan service.

Unarmed prisoner....spared because unarmed.

Well....then don't watch it. :)

I thought it was fun.

Talking about one movie, man.

That's part of a single huge fantasy universe that includes Blade Runner, Alien and Predator .

So discussing the series/story at large will include all of those.

And yes Aliens would have been better without the kid.

Wouldn't have had to go back and fight the queen though.

They would have just taken off and nuked the site from orbit....it's the only way to be sure.

Only thing they should have done was leave the Burke all stuck to the wall scene in it. Ripley was supposed to find him when she's looking for Newt, begs Ripply to do something....she hands him a grenade. :)

I just saw it and had fun watching it.
It's an entertaining B movie, mainly to kill boredom while doing something else.

But imo it has nothing in common with the other "Predators" movies.
I would rather put it in the same category as "The Crazies", "Tremors" or other cheezy movies from the 90's.

Add the "Resident Evil" franchise to the list. Very well made too.

It's a direct offshoot of the 2010 and original story line.

Ties to it through several pretty obvious "Easter eggs" like the Busey line.....Yutani connections etc.

You'd have to have read the comics/books though to pick up all the subtle connects...at least a couple of the series.

I didn't realize that was part of the same fantasy universe....it's certainly not consistent with the timeline/cannon like the rest of them are. And yes I realize I'm giving a pass to Davids creation of the xenomorph being "THE" origin story.

I did however see some compelling evidence that "The Thing" was a discovery of an older engineer ship carrying a proto version of the xeno-goo, but nothing concrete like with BR/Alien/Predator. Those three are all super tight and well established.

I concluded years ago that every action/adventure movie could be improved by replacing the helpless children with busty women who didn't wear bras.

Aah, that's what you were referring to. Good classification.
And yes! The two "The Thing" too.
The Alien/Prometheus/Predator/The thing are some of the best sci-fi's ever. *What's BR?*

I guess the Resident Evil franchise goes better with Doomsday or 28 weeks later. There are many post-apocalyptic/zombie movies out there, but they don't have the same feel.

I didn't know that it was made after a comic book.
That explains the setting of "The Predator", which to me initially came across as dowdy and uninspired.

I'm sure there's a few ways to get the queen involved without a kid. No diss against Aliens cuz awesome to the extreme but I just don't like kids in those kinds of movies. You know they aint gonna die so they're just a plot device. Alien didn't have no kids and it scared the shit out of everybody.
The Directors cuts of both movies are worthwhile BTW.

Also fuck all that prequel shit, man. Both sucked balls. There is no need or even desire to know the origins of the species. It's a monster, that's all we need to know. It's scarier that way. The first two worked so well because all we knew was acid for blood, facehuggers and chest bursting and some nasty fucking jaws.
That's all we needed to know. Any more and they're not as scary as was proven by every one of them since.

It's not a classification...they are not just part of the same genre.

They are all different parts of the same story.

Both Blade Runners , Alien series and the Predator series all happen in the same fantasy world.

Blade Runner.....it's a movie about what's happening on Earth just before and while Ripley is out fucking around with the xenomorphs.

Arguably 2 of the best flicks in the family....

Yea, it's not part of the Blade Runner/Alien/Predator world.

It wasn't. The movie spawned the comics/graphic novels/novels with all sorts of side stories like battling alien hives on the home planet and shit.

Oh yea...fair enough and yea Aliens was one of the top space action flicks.

I've seen all the cuts and yea they are good, it holds up too I watched the original not long ago and it's still scary as fuck. :D

Yea....I was hoping if they did another it would have been about the Earth wars or the Alien home world incursions. But I didn't mind it, the only thing I didn't like was the beyond incompetent idiot crews. Dumbest crews yet.

IF they develop it right though with the engineers? Could do some very cool AVP stuff with that.

But I doubt that will happen....film is no longer about story telling....it's about makin' that MONEY.

Which I get...but that's part of why books will generally be better.

A setting has been made, millions have been inspired and that fantasy world continues to grow.
