The Post office is stupid

I took my out of town Christmas/Hanukah presents to the post office this afternoon. When I finally got to the front of the long line, the postal worker told me they currently aren't allowed to accept any packages that don't have a return address. I tried to tell her one of the boxes was meant to be an anonymous gift, and she wouldn't budge.

So I made up a PO Box address and put it on the box. It was obviously different than the return address on all of the other mail I'd just given to her. But the postal worker was happy and accepted it. I'm sure the "rule" has something to do with security, but how much can it help in reality?

Whoever owns that PO is in for a big surprise if the package is returned...

It won't be. I was very careful to get the "to" address correct AND include a copy of it inside the box just in case.

Besides, I think the return address that my fingers wrote all by themselves may be the PO box that I send my water bill payments to.

Capitalist pigs. Everyone knows Government workers fucking ROCK.

Good idea.
Point out to all the terrorists on the Board how dumb the Post Office is.

Is it possible that the postal worker does find that the rule is stupid as well and find your way across it smart and let you pass free ?

Hmmmm... anything is possible! :)

I think more likely that she just didn't have time to even think about it. It's amazing how many people were in line with boxes to send by Christmas.

Did I mention that you could see a worker in the back of the building through some doors that aren't normally open? She was launching box after box into different bins. It reminded me of the old Samsonite commercial with the gorilla tossing around the suitcase to see how sturdy it is.

Yep, Bin laden and his boys log in here regularly to pick up clues.

Wonder what names they use?

In case Thumper reads this one- please note that I said the post office itself is stupid. I didn't say anything about the employees. ;)

Actually, the postal workers were amazingly cheerful considering the length of the line of tired and cranky customers that they faced.

I still think the post office is stupid though.

There are all sorts of silly "rules" being imposed. The anthrax letters all had return addresses--bogus ones, but they would have qualified.

Too much closing of barn doors. . .

And of course Reagan's/Bush's/Bush's "Star Wars" is now being sold to fight "terrorism" even though we've just seen that the most destructive terrorist act ever used materials at-hand. I don't get the connection.

Many of our registered members are international terrorists.

Fortunately, they tend to restrict themselves to the Personals & the Story Ideas sections.....

having worked in the Customs and Excise and the post office many years ago for about 3 years, i just want to say that the workers have no choice but to follow company policy. if i had seen you Cheyenne, and noticed those eyes, i would have pulled you out of line and taken you out back for a strip search! hehehe
stand next to the wall and spread em! :p :p :p ;) :D

Well it's pretty damned obvious, but invoking its name would just make it post more, so if you can't figure out who the Al Qaeda member(s) is/are you'll just have to study harder.

Next time, just make the return address the same as the delivery address. They probably won't notice until they can't find the delivery address. So when they return it, they deliver it anyway.

mail woes

:(
I have a package somewhere, where in the hell it is , I truly don't know. Actually, two packages.
One was sent from india over two months ago, never have located that one...and one just sent from Manchester two weeks ago.
No locating either one. Is anyone else losing packages due to the eneptness of postal employees?
I know there is heightened security now, due to anthrax...but this is nuts!! I've not gotten a satisfactory answer on this.
Anyone have any ideas what to do???

Thanks in advance!!!
