My desk is 5 feet wide and 29 inches deep. When I switched to a new computer built into a bigger monitor, it was too close for eye comfort. I stopped using that computer and then later thought of putting a folding card table under the desk as a keyboard tray. Now I realize I don't need the big wide desk at all. I can build shelves 4-6 feet wide down to the floor instead of using the shelves on my desk now, and use the space that is currently unused at the wall under my desk.
