A nineteen-year-old man is asked by his parents to accompany an older woman -- an established, controversial public figure -- on a short trip out of town. She is attending a high-profile cultural event, where her presence alone attracts attention, speculation, and unwanted interest. His role is deliberately vague: to be seen with her, to provide company, and to serve -- however implausibly -- as a kind of partner or social shield.

He already knows her. She is notorious, transgressive, and openly linked to scandalous circles; her appearance and reputation ensure that she is never merely present but always discussed. For years, she has existed on the edge of his awareness as a figure of fascination rather than intimacy.

His parents frame the arrangement as formative rather than practical. They believe the experience will broaden him, force him into proximity with adult social dynamics, and unsettle his comfort zones. They also know -- perhaps too well -- that he is drawn to her, and that this attraction, managed rather than indulged, might serve as a catalyst for growth.

I always try to add a twist to plots. It's part of my character.

So ... he's desperately attracted to her, but she has no interest in him. Part of his role is really to provide (controversial) cover for her affair with another woman who will be present. She's smart and manipulative, she maneuvers him into a relationship with a third woman so he's out of the way when his official "partner" wants to be with her girlfriend. He's not stupid either, and figures out what happened by the end of the story.

I would have posted more, but as you know, it would have been deleted by the mod.
