Imagine you are sitting home at dinner and you hear a knock on the door.

You answer the door and find a stranger standing there. Their smile is kind and gentle, but appears as if painted upon their face.

You unexpected guest walks into the house, uninvited and says simply,

"I am the People Mover. It is my job to take you with me to a new home. You may chose three of your belongings to bring with you. You may chose anything, but they must fit in this box."

The box is 2 feet long, 18 inches wide and 18 inches deep.

Assuming that you have no choice but to follow the directions, what three belongings do you chose?

Define "fit in this box"

Three things from my house that have no size limitations are:

1. My dog
2. My game used Larry Robinson hockey stick
3. My photo album

Incidentally these would be the first three things to grab in a fire.

My favorite teddy bear (I've had it for 15 years or so), a really good bra and a clean pair of undies....because I know mom will grab the rest

My Mossberg 590.

The People Mover would be Moving his People right out the front door. Walking or carried don't make me no nevermind.

Well, I have three sex toys... LOL j/k :D

I would take my french horn, my sheet music and my tarot cards/

Bel

hard

Son's ern, picture album, and change of clothes

Are we leaving our loved ones behind?

A picture of my daughter and I, a picuture of my grandfather... and my christmas videotape.

In the original context of this "excercise", for lack of a better word, yes, you would be leaving your loved ones behind and meeting a new batch of loved ones who welcome you.

However, as my goal was to find out what your most prized possessions were or how you think in terms of personal belongings, it doesn't have to be that way.

My dog is my loved one and Mr. Mover would just have to go next door, because I'm not going somewhere new with El Tuco.

1. My Violin (only because it is Stradivarius, you can't leave behind art like that)
2. The rings my Grandmother gave me
3. My snowglobe collection

And this is assuming my dog and cat will just follow me, they're silly like that

Last edited:
my favorite guitar, my song catalog, my rueger blackhawk

OK, ok...I'll bite.

1. My stuffed walleye. Caught it on a cold, icy night(1:00am)...all by my lonesome.

2. My almost worn out copy of 'What About Bob?'

3. My extra set of teeth.:D

I would take three phone numbers I have and then I could still be in contact with those special people... :)

I tried to picture it, the stranger, the empty box, and what I would fill it with. Anything taken would remind me of something I left or something I missed. In the box I would place a picture of my children and husband, a hand written letter expressing the things i loved and admired about each of them, and I would stop my watch...the date and time I left displayed. I would place the box on the floor. I turn and leave with the stranger. I'd take NOTHING.

1 - A pillow (this is all assuming that the house I be moving into is bare)

2 - My Sony discman (and I'm smuggiling batteries and headphones in with it damnit)

3 - A burned CD with 20 of my all time favorite songs.

1. Photo albums
2. Home videos
3. Pen and paper

(and in my pocket? My small box of treasures; locks of hair, baby hospital tags, engraved lighter, newspaper clippings, a drawing or two of the kids and some cards my youngest used to walk around with all the time - from two till he was three - of his pretty lady, Marilyn Munroe and my oldest's favourite motorbike card that he is saving till he's 21 as it might become a collector's item)

:D Yeah I knw, Im cheating. But ONLY three items?
Damn this is hard. I mean what about my Elvis stuff? *sigh*

Very touching and very thought provoking...

Thanks for the post.

I am not sure what I would take.
Certainly photos....

My passports. A photo. That's three. Would fit in an envelope.

Just the chance to start fresh and clean would be exhilerating enough.

True Kotori....

Arent' there times when we wish we could wipe the slate clean and start fresh?

Since you said loved ones and my cats will be safe......(of course they would be the first to grab!....but).......

1- my scrapbooks/photos.....the hold the most precious part of me and who I am, and those I love.....Preserving the past, enriching the future!

2- my computer!! LOL.......of course!

3- my camera and film
