(This story only loosely adapts some elements of Harry Potter)
Our characters are troublemakers. For whatever reason, we all got in trouble in the second half of our senior year of highschool and flunked out. But between the detentions and skipping classes together, we came to form a strong group. We decided to spend our summer partying in the Caribbean island paradise of Santa Rosoto, get it out of our systems, and then return to Glenchester, New York to restart our senior year. This time we would study hard and graduate.
At least, that was our goal before we accidentally stole the Patronum from the Avelar Cartel, one of the largest criminal organizations in and around Central America and the Caribbean.
The Patronum is a large cauldron-sized goblet made of silver and gold, images of spirits and demons etched on the sides. According to ancient legends, if you fill the goblet with water and use it to scry, you can bypass all magical barriers and see what does not want to be found. You can even look beyond the Veil into to the Spirit World. In the case of the Avelars, they only want two things -- to spy on the other cartels, and to locate the long lost Philosopher's Stone, which can turn lead into gold, water into wine, and blood into the Elixir of Life, which grants immortality.
Just off the coast of Santa Rosoto, the Avelars sit on a boat after retrieving the Patronum from an underwater cave. They attempt to use it, which backfires as a severe thunderstorm magicks into existence around them. Their vessel is ripped to shreds and the Patronum washes up on the beach where our characters find it. My character walks up and touches the goblet, immediately screaming out in pain and convulsing as if being electrocuted, his hand stuck to the metal. Your characters attempts to separate him from the goblet, being pulled into a same trance. Further down the coast, several of the Avelars have come ashore and are witnessing this happen to us.
After we are released, we look on in confusion as the Patronum shatters into several pieces (however many characters there are), after which each piece turns into liquid metal and latches to our skin, being absorbed into our bodies just as the Avelars come running up. The Avelars accuse us of stealing the Patronum, and soon we find ourselves being tortured and interrogated in a cartel prison. The Patronum responds in an attempt to protect its new vessels, spawning a Patronus for each of us, taking the ghostly form of our spirit animals. They help us escape back to the United States.
Each Patronus has several forms. The ghostly smokey version we first encounter is the Spirit Form. Once enough energy has been gathered and it's strong enough, the Patronus attains Animal Form, where it materializes as a physical creature of small size. Next is the Beast Form, a larger, monster-like version of their Animal Form, used mostly for combat and defense. And finally, they have the Avatar Form, in which the Patronus takes on a humanoid form resembling an anthropomorphic version of their host, melding their animal features with the human traits of their vessel. If your Patronus is a cat, their Avatar Form will look like you if you were a Catgirl.
From here we can go anywhere, but to start we try to live normal lives and go back to school. The Avelar Cartel utilizes their allies Stateside to track us down, pulling us into a long and bitter struggle with their network of criminal organizations. And, of course, sex and stuff happens
. Oh, and the Patronum gives us the ability to use magic and we begin researching Alchemy and Transmutation.
