It's 6 AM in the morning when my alarm wakes me up. I hit the snooze button to get some extra sleep, but immediately a pillow gets thrown at my head.
“Don't you dare going back to sleep!”, someone says laughing. “It's finally time to go on our trip”

“Fucking hell, why did we agree to leave so early”, I groan as I sit up in bed. It takes a minute for my brain to fire up, while you keep egging me on to get ready.
“If you get me a cup of coffee, I'll get ready quicker”, I say. Almost skipping your way to the kitchen you go get my cup of coffee.
I get into the bathroom and get ready. I look into the mirror and see a 5’9” tall, lean guy. I like to play tennis and my body shows that. My blue eyes still look tired, but that coffee will fix that. I wash up and put on a t-shirt and some cargo shorts, comfy for travelling.

So what did I get myself into? Together with my best friend I would be going on a big roadtrip through France. She's been my best friend since kindergarten and we always said that when we turned 18 years old we'd go on a big trip. We seem completely different, you more of a bubbly golden retriever, whereas I am more reserved. We each have our own group of friends, but always stay close. A lot of people think we are a couple, but no. I can't deny you've grown into a beautiful woman, but our relationship is strictly platonic.

And well I turned 18 4 weeks ago and you 6 months ago. We both have our drivers license and I got the keys to my mom's minivan. Ideal for a roadtrip and ideal to simply park and sleep in.
So yesterday we packed the van and decided for you to sleep at my home so we could leave bright and early. We planned a roadtrip through France, we'd visit the sunny beaches of the Côte d'Azur and the memorials at Omaha beach. We'd walk the streets of Paris and numerous small villages. In short we'd see the whole country.

Meanwhile I'm ready and awake after breakfast. We say my parents goodbye and get in the car.
“And away we go”, I say as ‘Life is a highway’ starts blaring through the stereo and we start our trip.
