I stopped smoking yesterday and now I am thinking about using the patch. Does anyone have any comments about it?
I have heard of other things but I don't know which will help the best. If anyone has any suggestions I would love to hear them.

Thank-you.

I used the patch one and it did help some...but for god's sake don't ever smoke while you have the patch on. alot of people have a better success rate with a drug called Zyban

I have tried the patch and Zyban........Zyban helps more than the patch.....and DO NOT smoke while using the PATCH or you might get sick, literally. I think you just need pure will power, couple will power with Zyban and you probably can do it..... *lighting up a smoke*

Good Luck BWL........seriously.

Thank you for telling me. I have a friend who gave me a patch to try till tommorrow I put it on and I feel kind of light headed. Is this normal? Or maybe it isn't the patch it is just the fact of not smoking that is doing this?

Probably a combo of the two..........seriously. The patch gives you constant nicotine all the time, so it could be since you have not smoked since yesterday and then the nicotine deprivation........you will have DT's. Make sure and have plenty of gum to chew on and things to snack on.

However you do it, welcome to the world of non-smokers! What a wonderful gift to give yourself for the new year!

My dad quit right before Thanksgiving. No patch, no drugs. He seems to have the most problem with not having something in his mouth all the time. He's been cutting up hard candy into much smaller pieces. When he wants to smoke, he puts a little piece of candy in his mouth instead. Too many calories to do that with a whole piece of candy, so this approach seems to be working. Of course, there are many things much more fun that you could put in your mouth to keep yourself occupied! ;)

By the way, it is SO nice to be able to visit my parents and stay longer than just a couple hours. The smoke really bothered my allergies before, and now I can breathe when I am there! Very cool.

Thanks I was getting scared. I am going over to my friends for some leftover new years snacks. I never got to celebrate last night since I was working so they left me a snack tray for me. Shit so much for losing a couple of pounds!

Thank you Cheyenne I will try that.

I tried the patch and after about 3 weeks my son told me, "Mom, I don't want you to died, but you are nicer when you smoke." So, I started back up.
I started the Zyban in Feb. and it was MUCH better, it is an anti-depressant, so it really takes away the cravings and I felt better about not having ANY nicotine in my system. 10months and 27 days smoke free!

Good luck!

Its not worth spending 50 bucks to buy from my experince I would advise you since all smokers are useing there hand...try to find something to do with you hands eat a straw it will help as well a gum.....I would do it cold turkey if your going to use the patch you might as well weene your self from the cigrattes them selves

Aw finally, something I know a little about! I can't get into the penis size debate, never had enough to debate with!

Anyway, Wee Lass, I quit smoking a year and a half ago after puffing on them for 30 odd years. I was smoking 2 1/2 packs a day in January 1998. I started taking Zyban and was able to bring that down to between 4 and 6 cigs a day. In June That year I quit completely.
I tried the patches and I can't say they won't work. I acquired an allergy to the glue used on the patch and had to stopping using them.
For my money, Zyban, or it's generic equivalent, wellbutran (spelling?), is the way to go. I won't tell you it's easy, for I still have craving for a smoke a probably always will. But if your serious about it you can. Trust me! (How many times have you heard that one?) So go for it girl! One last thing, The sweet lady Rosebud is right, DO NOT SMOKE WHEN YOU HAVE ON THE PATCH! you could do some definite serious damage to you. So please, don't. Don't be embarrassed if you go back to smoking. Most of us that have managed to quit, have tried an average of 24 times to do so!
Luck Bonnie sweet Lassie.

I tried the patch also, with no results, guess I wasn't ready to quit. You may have experienced a dizzy feeling due to your not having smoked for a day, and the patch may contain more nicotene than your body was receiving before (depending on how much you smoked a day before). I have friends who used Zyban with good results.

Wow I am so glad to hear the responses and thank you for recomending the zyban. I have made an appt. with the doctor today to get some. I have not smoked yet and I am not even craving one but that might be that I am also sick with a cold. Thanks again everyone. http://cwm.ragesofsanity.com/s/sp/pipico.gif
