The opposite of vanilla is...

In a thread in the How-To forum, James G 5 and I found ourselves discussing the possible opposite of vanilla. Somebody had described non-kinky relationships as like vanilla ice cream, so James said he prefers his to be Rocky Road.

But I'm a vegetarian, and there's marshmallow in most Rocky Road (yes, marshmallow has animal products - if you don't know, you don't want to) ice cream. So we were trying to figure out what other flavors of ice cream could be used as an opposite to vanilla. Butter pecan was the only thing that sprang to mind, but it's too close to vanilla. So what else might work? Tutti-Frutti?

(Yeah, it's a silly thread. But James said it was an amusing question, so I'm posting it. And now I want ice cream.)

I dont really know...not sure I ever thought about it, but I know I am personally WILD about mint chocolate chip....that beautiful shade of green interrupted with those lovely bits of naughty chocolate....

mmm....

off to the freezer I may have to go!

*wink*

I completely forget about the tendons
I guess no Jell-O for you, either Etoile?

Hmmm
How about Chunky Monkey???

You don't like Chunky Monkey?

I thought Ben and Jerry's made a big deal out of only using the best ingredients.

You know...sans icky body parts.

Jell-O is made from the best horse & cow tendons :D

Yanno, I decided to go looking (being perverse)
I knew gellatin was made from collagen from gound-up horse & cow hooves & tendons
I DIDN'T know what all it was in
Some examples:
gummy bears
sour cream
cream cheese
cake icing and frosting
marshmallows
soups, sauces and gravies
canned ham and chicken
corned beef
sausage
Gelatin is even used to make the coating for pills that makes them easier to swallow. It's also in cosmetics, lozenges, and ointments.

And if you guys think THAT'S bad, never eat pink food. It's probably colored with crushed-up cockraoches.

Oh, I'm sure of that :D
And I doubt you're full of cockroaches :D

But I bet you're yummy and not vanilla at all ;)

I wonder if anyone makes a vegan version of mint chocolate chip?

That's my biggest weakness when it comes to ice cream... with the exception of Snickers Blizzards from Dairy Queen!

;)

Fire and Ice Cream
* 1/2 cup milk
* 1 medium cinnamon stick
* 1 strip orange peel (from one small orange)
* 4 whole cloves
* 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
* 1 14-ounce can sweetened condensed milk
* 1 1/2 teaspoons TABASCO brand Pepper Sauce
* 2 cups heavy cream, whipped
* Cinnamon sticks and orange peel twists for garnish
In small saucepan over medium heat, heat milk, cinnamon stick, orange peel and cloves to boiling. Reduce heat to low; cover and simmer 5 minutes to blend flavors. Set aside to cool to room temperature. Strain mixture.
In large bowl combine milk mixure, vanilla extract, sweetened condensed milk. and TABASCO(r) Sauce. Gently fold in whipped cream. Cover and freeze until firm, stirring once.
To serve, scoop ice cream into glasses or dessert dishes. Garnish with cinnamon sticks and orange peel twists, if desired.
Makes 6 servings.

;)

Nutty coconut with chocolate sauce and a cherry on top. mmmmmmmm

I think vanilla ice cream would be the base, and it would be what we called in the Navy, an Ice cream social. You get a big bowl with a couple of scoops of ice cream, then there are tables and tables filled with different nuts, berries, fruit, sweet sauces and so on.

I don't see bdsm as being opposite of vanilla, just extra.

Even in vanilla relationships, isn't there a subtle undercurrent of power play, even if it isn't discussed?

Oh, this is a fluff thread right?

Do they still make chubby hubby?

Sign me up.

I read in some how-to articles affiliated with alt.com that the BDSM crowd is referred to as "pistachio." I REALLY wish I could find the site. Don't look at me like I'm crazy!

WD, I think you have the right of it here.

  • a dash of pepper
  • a dollop of cream
  • and a shot of Gran Marnier

Yes indeed. Imagine Foods has a line of ice creams they call Soy Dream, and it does come in Mint Chocolate Chip. I've tried it, it's quite good. The Green Tea flavor is also surprisingly good.

a few of my friends in college are vegan/vegitarians and I've thought of and done tons of recipies that they liked, but didn't know how to make. One of their favorites is Banana's Foster with the Soy Dream ice'cream.' I even flambe` it.

AND RASPBERRIES TO YOU ALL!!! I'm in vt, ben and jerrys factory right down the road a piece for me, all the free samples and factory tours i want ::smile:: hehe

MY icecream guess for non-vanilla-ians... would be one of the death by chocolate ones. With fudgy swirls, and chunks of brownie and dark chocolate chips and chocolate icecream...mmm...and pleanty...pleanty ... of whip cream.

Mmmm... Your offering, and BlueSugar's Banana's Foster sound like heaven! It's been years since I've had either one.
