2013 Valentines Day Contest

You can begin submitting your stories on January 14th and up until February 10th . We encourage all contestants to submit their stories as early in the submission window as possible. Those authors who try to abuse the system by entering their stories at the very last hour (using the infamous darkboy technique) will risk having their stories disqualified.

The winners will be announced on or around February 14th

You can discuss this special contest on the tigerlady’s AHland toady thread, or of course here on the A.I.R. thread.

PLEASE NOTE:
While the LITEROTICA Valentines Day Contest runs at the same time as the A.I.R. Contest the two are totally separate and run under a different set of rules.

RULES (for the A.I.R. section of the contest):
(see the QUEEN for this weeks LITEROTICA Rules and their interpretation)

- All submissions must be stand-alone stories created for this contest theme. We will not accept individual chapters of a larger work submitted separately.

- Nor will stories featuring characters, locales, plot lines, etc., etc., that have been previously used by the author be accepted (no sequels, run ons, continuations, chapters etc).

- Prizes will be awarded in the following categories (a story can only win one prize in each contest):

1) Best Overall Story
2) Most Views
3) Most Comments
4) Most Votes
5) Highest Score

- A story has to accrue a minimum of 250 votes to be eligible (higher in some categories). The vote, comment, view, favorite, and score numbers that are reported by LITEROTICA will be used subject to final verification by the A.I.R. Computer Center.

- Authors are prohibited from voting or commenting on their own stories. Their votes on competing stories will also be swept away.

- Story must have a Valentines Day Theme.

- It must be erotic in content.

- Non-Human/Science-Fiction category stories will not be accepted in this contest.

- Story must not exceed 5 LITEROTICA pages in length (20,000 words).

- Each author is allowed only one submission (under his name and his various ALTS – ie darkboy and the lesslight ALT are allowed only one entry - not two) per contest.

-An exception to this rule has been made for Top 25 “Most Favorited” authors – they are allowed two or three depending upon their ranking.

- No character may be named Pauletta.

- Don’t just submit some rehashed story you’ve been working on for years. We want something fresh. Be creative!

- The "least viewed" story in the contest has absolutely no chance of winning a prize.

- A.I.R. reserves the right to disqualify without notice or explanation any story in which any kind of cheating or vote-tampering is suspected.

- Every story that meets the above criteria and is submitted to LITEROTICA during the contest period will be automatically entered into the A.I.R. contest. No special submission form must be filled out. We believe in inclusivity!

- If you have any questions regarding any of the above or anything pertaining to our contests, feel free to contact me by PM or email, or post any questions you have on this thread.

Good Luck!!!

I have two started. One is 7700+ words and the other is 8800+ words. One has taken on a life of its own and the other is only halfway home.

Tell me about it. I just finished a mother/son story and once again I swore, I mean I absolutely swore this fucker would clock in under 10k

Final tally was just shy of 17k:rolleyes:

I have promised this year to try and finish some of the series i have open so persisting with stories for this contest that don't flow (even though i like the premise) is something i can't do even though some have potential.

The one that has captured my muses attention though I fear will be too long, I am barely halfway through and at 7K. I think i need to speak to writers who do stroke pieces about how to... because i am just too wordy when i really want to just write a quite "grab 'em by the balls" piece. Maybe that's just not my forte and maybe its something i can learn...

Good luck with getting yours finished TXrad and lovecraft :)

PS just to side track a little bit does anyone know how long from submission to being published wait time is. I assumed 5 days but it came and went today and I just wondered if the wait was long or if i should resubmit.

Unless you got a rejection slip it's still in the line. If it goes over 7 ya might start to worry. Also don't be clicking on the submission button or you'll find yourself back at the end of the line.

The submissions have been taking longer and longer as time goes by. A couple of years ago three was close to standard.

My last three were 8/7/6

It seems as if 5+ is becoming the norm. Also 2 of the three were when no contest was running as their is a rumor it takes longer during one.

So it pretty much takes what it takes these days:rolleyes:

Thanks for that, I knew it was longer than the three days it used to take but if a week is the norm now I can live with that. I just didn't want it floating in the ether so to speak.

Contests have always delayed the other submissions considerably as they get priority, naturally.

The number of submissions has almost doubled, as you can see from the fact that the New List has almost doubled from 4 to 8 pages. If Laurel still keeps a close oversight of approvals, which we are led to believe, then it is no surprise that approval takes longer than it used to: same staff, double the work.

You are both a contributor and a reason for the site's success.

Would you offer to proof 800 stories a week?

I agree--from years of observation--that this is the case, but Laurel recently denied on the forum that this is the case.

And, at the most, I'd believe that Laurel lightly scans the submissions (still a daunting task). I don't think she comes anywhere close to proofing them.

Bah Humbug!

Ok, so I have been smitten with the idea of an anti-Valentines Day story. However, I can't think of the "catch phrase" and "goggle" doesn't seem to be helping. (Yes, I know it's actually "Google" but since most people use it to search porn images and movies....)

Can anyone else remember the catch phrase mumbled by people that hate Valentines Day? Sort of like "Bah Humbug" is to Christmas?

I have to say, I didn't know there was one. Perhaps you should invent one for your story. :)

An anti-Valentine's Day story would probably be received well. I wrote a story on the eroticism of nonnudity for the Nude Day contest, and it was received well.

Nice!

Reading through that, I couldn't help but remember my favorite Woody Allen quote.

"Don't knock masturbation. It's sex with someone who loves me." ~ W. Allen

I know a place you can get a dozen decent roses for $15

except for V-day when it shoots to over $30

I don;t do flowers on V-day or any holiday I buy them randomly throughout the year. Means more that way.

My cats eat them. I usually get a Christmas centerpiece for my anniversary, but I take it to my mom's. She doesn't have pets.

This was part of my closing author's note in my V-day entry in 2011

I also ask you to take the time to grab hold of your special someone and tell them you love them. Not because Valentine's is around the corner, but because you love them every day, and in every way.

My wife has threatened to read that-as well as the story itself-to several of my friends.

*bumped since I got stuck in scourie's thread--wasn't logged in so his thread wasn't on hide.

I just started working on my Valentine entry and it's already giving me a cavity. I need to go watch some Dexter to cut the sweetness with.

Grrr I'm waffling between two ideas and neither seems to be "stepping up" over the other.

I suppose I could try to do both, but I decided whichever ends up here the other will go for sale.

One idea is a Lesbian first time the other is non consent/reluctance.

I've got a pure porn idea I've been thinking about here and there, but I'm still trying to get that non-contest multi-chapter to end strong. Mulling ideas for that one that's been sputtering for a couple of years as well.

If I don't get this Les tale to advance today, I may give that porn idea a whirl, or another non-contest idea that I've been thinking about for a while. Need to get something accomplished so the frustration of that multi-chapter doesn't drag me down into another slump.

The impact of winning the Winter Holiday Contest has been mixed.

I have had a significant increase in favorites and comments on my older stories but also a number of low votes on them.

I think the low votes might be because many of my stories are unlike Christmas Truce. While some have liked a few of my older stories, others' reaction has been "WTF was that?". ;)

Even if you don't win a contest, the exposure during the contest can attract attention to your other stories, even if some of that attention is unwelcome.

So - write a contest entry. You might get a following for all your work, but some followers are likely to be trolls.
