As I sit here, at a quarter after eleven at night, there is an awful, rhythmic, grinding, very very VERY loud sound emanating from the living room. Which, sadly, is connected to the dining alcove I am sitting in, about 10 feet away from me.

It's of a decibel volume that, I swear, were it outdoors, would be considered a clear, unquestionable violation of politeness and decency to neighbors by maintaining quiet time at this time of night.

It's extremely loud, extremely annoying, and has been going on for over an hour now. And trust me when I say, this is not even -beginning- to approach an exaggeration.

I didn't realize it was possible for a human being to snore so loudly until I moved back home this fall.... I no longer blame my mother for moving out to sleep on the couch 6 nights out of seven. I couldn't sleep in the same room as that, either.

Hell, I can barely type in the same room as that.

Make it stop! :(

You're wish is my command . . . pulls out magic wand . . . shakes it . . . shakes it again . . . .

Damn! It's broke! Guess you'll have to wait for it to get fixed. Sorry. :p

Ear plugs help. Also listening to music via ear phones.

It is horrible I was married to someone like that for a while.

I used to use ear plugs and put pillows between us to muffle the noise as best as I could.

Of course one night he decided I was actually trying to smother him with those pillows.

*smirks*

Do or do not, there is no try.

*winks*

Miss Jade Sweety any chance you cook with gas there ?

There is a product in the UK called 'snore relief' its a spray for the back of the throat, that works reasonably well.
It doesn't stop it but its a quieter noise.

There are also strips to put on the bridge of the noise which help to open the nasel passages to stop that whistling sound.

But I sympathise with you an this one

And there are medically designed interventions which stop the snoring....had a friend in Oz who was put on one after his wife just could not handle it anymore. Can't remember what it was, but seem to remember it was some form of device which fitted the mouth, and also I seem to remember they had ana alarm that disturbed his sleep just enough to stop him the moment a rumble started. Apparently they got rid of the snoring eventually.

Might be a good idea to say something to his doctor about it because sleep apnea can also cause snoring. There is also a new procedure that is being done in doctor's offices that can cure some snorers.

I relate, I've been in a snoring household for so long, the sound has become my cue to fall asleep. When the snoring starts, I slowly drift off...
now what's this about cooking with gas?

The unfortunate part -- more details to come later, I'm about to dash out for work -- is that my father DOES have sleep anpea. He also refuses, adamantly, to wear any sort of strip, mask, or alarm thing to bed.

Honestly? I think it's a testament to my parents 26-year (and going) marriage, that she's willing to put up with that kind of shit. In short, he knows it's bad, he knows it drives everyone nuts, and he won't do anything about it, either to save -our- sanity or save himself.

And nope, no gas here. The very first time in my entire life that I ever saw a gas stove was when I lived in the UK for 6 months. They're not terribly common in the states, at least not in any of the regions I've lived in. :)

Does gas cause snoring? I'd never heard anything about that.

 OMG its your father !!!! Majors oops . Next question involved duct tape and a length of hose  ohhhh excuse me please !!! Apologies Miss Jade

ROFLMAO hehe

I actually here you. My dad and my grandma and my sister snore like that. And my daughter will. She's so small that right now her snoring is cute, but their's a few times my other daughter's come out and asked if she can sleep in the living room, cause "B's snoring like a pig."

It's scary when people refuse to get help for something that might kill them. My ex was like that. He only got help after he left me. Typical.

I personally though would have a hard time sleeping with one of those machines on my face. Hell, I have a hard time sleeping anyway.

Jade I take it your father knows about the risks to his health and wellbeing right?? Do you know if he has ever taken into account the risks he could pose others, if he were driving down the road on did the microsleep thing it's just asking for more trouble. Never lived in northern Arizona but down in the valley I think all but maybe of the places I lived have had natural gas for heating and cooking.

My uncle is a louder sleeper too, my aunt makes him sleep in the basement she sleeps on the second floor. When they travel, he sleeps in the van.

Yeah, he knows.

He's done good things for his health recently, but this one just seems to be one that he won't have anything to do with. I'm not entirely certain if he actually accepts that he's got apnea -- we all know, my mom knows for sure, but he may just be in denial. Which kind of sucks; he went on a great diet and lost a lot of weight some years back, because, unlike his dad, he actually wanted to live to see 50, which he'll be this September. :) The family has a history of heart trouble.

I dunno what all we can do about it... but I'm tellin' ya, when he's fallen asleep watching TV and I'm trying to read Lit forums, it's very, very, VERY loud and annoying. I'd have had headphones on, but my iPod was charging. >.<

I know that before my brother's dad loss weight and had that stomach operation that he had sleep apnea so weight can cause that and so many other problems with the body not just organwise but the knees and such. I am a bit lost about the tv comment if that's your dad your talking about then I guess your SOL because at his age unless its going to kill him he might never change. If your talking about a husband then I would think that he would, because of your guys love, want to give you some peace.

My grandpa (who's dead) always snored real loud. He didn't believe my grandma that he snored until after the divorce, though. He had neighbors who'd fight real loudly, so one night he decided to tape it. The next day he listened to the tape, but couldn't hear them fighting over his snoring.

Oddly enough, I pay to listen to such noises.

You do??

Jade tape the noises, sell them here and make a fortune which can be put towards a sound proofed room
