WASHINGTON (CN) — The Supreme Court appeared interested Monday in weakening a federal anti-bribery law prohibiting officials from accepting gifts from those their actions benefit.

A mayor from Portage, Indiana, asked the court to overturn his corruption conviction for accepting a reward after an official act. James Snyder accepted $13,000 from Great Lakes Peterbilt after the city awarded the trucking company two contracts for their vehicles.

This is exactly the kind of thing Clarence is accused of ... accepting money or gifts in exchange for perceived services. It's why there's a call for Ethics Rules, yet these doinks want to weaken existing laws.

"Almost all of the justices were sharply critical of Sinzdak’s arguments, worrying that there isn’t a clear distinction between corruption and everyday rewards."

There should not BE 'rewards' from recipients of government contracts to those in government responsible for those contract being awarded.

All BS.

The real corruption seems to occur through kickbacks and promoting the children of your buddies to sit on boards.

Having successfully retconned the word "diversity" into the pejorative "woke", the right wing is now working to redefine the word 'bribery' as "reward".

Unless it's been changed in 30 years, the Court's own rules for their own employees bar 'gifts'. I worked for a US District Court in the 90s in procurement and contracting. We could not accept anything over $25 from any vendor or prospective vendor. We weren't even supposed to go to lunch with them unless we paid our own tab.
